Anyone on Letrozole?

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

@carleyxo Oh noooo I'm so, so sorry AF came. So disappointing. It never gets any easier. The ups and downs each month. I am sorry.
And your words really lift me up too :-) Usually when one of us is having a bad time we can find someone on here in a slightly different point of their cycle to bring the optimism and hope back! For me it's just so nice to have a space to share things where no one is trying to "fix" everything. Because sometimes it just can't be fixed and it's ok to just feel crap about this really crap thing we're experiencing. There isn't always a silver lining & It's nice to have people just to understand what it feels like.
So are you taking letrozole again tmw?

Sorry yesterday evening didn't go to plan. Me and my OH are falling out about every other day at the moment. It's hard not to be grumpy.

Glad the meditations are working. I get about 5 mins in and fall asleep every single time! It's amazing. Although last night my Bluetooth headphones ran out of battery and it did a really loud beep in my ear and scared me out of my skin!!!! Not quite so relaxing!!

That's such a bargain that CB Monitor! I've read great things about those. Definitely worth that money considering how expensive the normal ones are. Total bargain!

Carleyxo · 20/01/2020 22:02

Oh I completely agree with you there you're so right! This place has kept me sane having somewhere to moan and for people to just get it.
I actually feel ok about AF I knew it was coming and actually I just feel ready to give everything my all so here's to cycle 2! I told OH about you ovulating earlier maybe and he said oh well start testing soon then - that was nice to hear as it shows he's interested in it all. So I'm not sure whether to tomorrow as last night I had all the cramps etc by 8pm but not loads of blood so I'm not sure whether to class today as day 1? I'm so relieved I've got more of a period the month before last month was hardly anything which we think was down to clomid.

Oh no bless you really it's all so hard isn't it, do you think it's because he's not vaping to?

That definitely doesn't sound relaxing HmmI'm not surprised it scared you. I need to get some Bluetooth headphones I'm just using normal iPhone ones and my cat (I got him a few weeks ago and he's just so cute!) keeps coming and playing with the wire haha so I need to try and tuck it out the way as he wakes me back up.

I'll let you know when it arrives, what ones are you using?

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 07:11

Hi all!
Hope it’s ok if I join in. Just started Letrozole this month, have one more day to take of it. I was diagnosed with a right hydrosalpinx after TTC with no success for the last few months. I can’t have a lap or HSG due to risks from surgery when I was younger.

So trying this for 4-5 months and if no success I’ll be moving on to IVF. Feeling a bit low and teary the last few days as it came as a shock when I found out last month. Trying my best to stay positive - best of luck to everyone this month!

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 07:47

Hello @afterglow87, you're so welcome to join. It's a horrible shock but it's good that they've prescribed you something and got you on the right path now. I hope letrozole is the answer! How are you finding it so far? My first month on it I had lots of side effects but the second month none at all. It was totally fine.

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 07:52

@Carleyxo I think today is day one for you then - my Dr told me that if it starts in the evening you count the next day as day one. Also some people take letrozole on day 3 so if you're day 1 & 2 is muddled I don't think it had a big big impact.
It's great your period is heavier this month! Do you think the clomid thinned your lining like it did mine?
I'm using Clearblue advanced digital (the purple sticks, not the monitor) and cheapy ones from Amazon. Same is happening as last month though - Clearblue flashing smiley for days and blanks on the cheapies. So weird. Got the scan today so will ask her about it.

Ooooh exciting about your cat!!! I have a cat. It's amazing how much comfort and love and pet brings!

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 08:09

@Sylva123 I’ve terrible IBS symptoms but wasn’t sure if it was the meds or not! Thanks for being so nice Smile it’s all the unknowns that’s keeping me awake at night Confused but I’m still glad I found out and have a plan in place!

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 08:23

Yeah @afterglow87 it's really horrible not knowing what's going to happen next and if/when it's going to work. I've found this whole thing just really, really awful. Surely by the law of averages one of us in this thread will get our BFP this month!

It's awful that they can't do the HCG and all that on you. It's so complicated isn't it

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 08:51

So Sunday is when it started and then yesterday was heavier today it's almost gone but more might come through the day I guess. So today would be day 2 and I start letrozole tomorrow right? I keep getting so confused with clomid days and letrozole days 🙈

Ohh yes I've been using the pink ones then last month bought the purple ones I've only used one as it was a static smiley so didn't go away for two days. I'll definitely try then this month again I liked them I don't even know why I bought the monitor 😅 @Sylva123 x

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 08:55

So sorry @AfterGlow87 I missed your message! Nice to have you hear. I'm currently about to start cycle 2 I had no side effects last month luckily so hoping it stays that way. All fingers crossed this is for you! Is one tube still ok? X

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 11:51

@carleyxo my clinic always says day 1 of your period is full flow before 3pm so if it isn’t the next day is your day 1, if that makes sense?

They don’t know about my left for certain, they can’t see it on scan which hopefully is a good thing but they don’t want to risk a lap/hsg at the moment just to find out. We’re starting to save for IVF anyway, who knows hopefully we won’t need it!

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 12:20

@Carleyxo I get confused with the days too!! Id like a monitor because they look really good but I am just spending spending spending at the moment... I bought one of those Ovusense thermometers the other month (they cost a bomb) but I can't use it now I have cyclogest cos you sleep with the thermometer inside (down there) which is where the cyclogest goes! Also totally not needed now I'm getting cycle monitoring! I think we just buy these things to get a bit of control back.

@afterglow87 does your area give you any rounds of IVF for free?

Off to my scan now. I feel in my heart it's not worked this month. I don't trust the fact that my opks are totally blank. I think something's going wrong - maybe the follicles are empty :-(

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 12:22

Oh @Sylva123x I have absolutely everything crossed for you... sending love and positivity.

I've heard about the ovusense being really good shame you can't use it but I'm happy you're getting monitored. Will that be every month too?

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 12:24

@sylva123 you never know! I know from experience those sticks don’t always work (I work in a fertility clinic!). So many women can’t even use them because although they are ovulating the surge doesn’t always show. Everything crossed!

I’m not in the UK so no! But I do get a discount because of where I work so every little helps I guess! We’ll save for the next 6 months.

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 12:49

Wow @afterglow87 that must be strange working there and also going through it yourself. Does it make it easier or harder on you? I suppose you have no escape from it, bit at the same time you have access to a lot of information.

Yes fingers crossed. it's just weird that opks used to be so reliable for me - I always had a surge. Since letrozole they've been blank.

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 12:50

@Carleyxo yes I think so cos after this we only just one more go I think and so far she's monitored me really closely. I have my consultant appt on the 6th Feb and then it's IVF and we have to go private for that so they'll be really on it all I guess

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 12:59

I tell you what... I wish the scanning appts weren't in the same waiting room as the pregnant people appointments. Everyone in the queue is booking baby scans...

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 13:49

@sylva123 I know that’s so tough for people! They really should be separate if possible I feel.

I’m actually not attending my own clinic at the moment as it’s small and I’d like to keep things private for as long as possible! That’s why its so nice to chat about it on here - I feel less lonely already. Even though I know a good bit about fertility, when it’s affecting you directly it’s very different! I’m trying to forget about stats and figures and hope for the best Smile

Carleyxo · 21/01/2020 15:35

Definitely positive thinking @AfterGlow87 that must be a bit challenging some days for you.

I know it's crazy isn't it @Sylva123 or when people have bumps etc. Really hard! I haven't been through that yet but a client of mine is having IVF after trying for years and they stuck her with loads of pregnant ladies - I can't imagine that. How did it go? X

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 15:43

Yes that makes sense @AfterGlow87. It must be hard when work life crosses with personal life.

In my hospital I have to queue up with all the pregnant women, next to a crèche and next to the baby scan photo machine. I'll never forget the day I came out of there holding a scan of my cyst and the woman next to me had a scan of twins. I know space is tight in the hospital but it is hard.

Appointment was good today. She's given me two more rounds of letrozole which is good, in case this one doesn't work and in case the IVF referral takes some time. She also gave me the trigger shot again. This time she gave it to me to administer myself and oh my goodness I've been sat her for about 10 mins mustering up the courage to stab myself with this needle!!! I've finally done it! So I'll ovulate now between 24-36 hours. Eeek! I asked about the opks being blank and she didn't know. It was all so quick I forgot to ask if it's possible that the follicles are empty.

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 15:43

Oops forgot to tag you @Carleyxo

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 15:53

@sylva123 that sounds positive to me! Here’s hoping the sticks just didn’t work this month - I’d say you’re defo still in! Well done on injecting yourself, a hard thing to do.

I’m only CD6 today, wishing the days away until my scan next week. My husbands birthday today so having a few people over later and a night out on Saturday - a nice distraction

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 15:56

That's good @afterglow87. Good to have some distractions from it all. I'm on day 11 so just a little ahead. Has your OH had tests and things done too?

AfterGlow87 · 21/01/2020 16:03

@sylva123 He’s booked in for a semen analysis next month! I’m hoping it’ll be ok and at least then it’s just me we’ve to worry about! But look if not we’ll cross that bridge too I guess. He’s very laid back and chilled about it all, the opposite to me haha! Grin

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 16:06

Oh @afterglow87 I forgot to say that they gave me an information sheet with the letrozole and gastro/IBS type issues happen to 1 in 10 people so that's probably what caused your IBS the other day

Sylva123 · 21/01/2020 16:07

That's good that he's chilled about it! Yes and I hope it goes well.

@Carleyxo did your OH get his results? Did the vitamins help?
