Anyone on Letrozole?

1000 replies

rubywoo24 · 25/08/2019 21:46

Hi everyone

I have been prescribed 3 cycles of Letrozole and I have just started AF after a very very long few months. So quite excited to finally getting things going!
We're currently away and I do have my medication with me but not the leaflet that came with it. So just want to double check that I am taking it correctly:

  • do I count tomorrow as CD1 as AF only started at 9.30pm today
  • is there a specific time that I have to take the tablets, I think night time is recommended?
  • do I take both tablets together?

Any other help or advice would be much appreciated!

Don't know if that works!

Carleyxo · 15/01/2020 13:58

Ohhh that's amazing thanks @Sylva123x luckily I've been sleeping amazing but that was just my first round. I've been looking for a good meditation though so I really appreciate that I'll start today.

How are you feeling x

Sylva123 · 15/01/2020 17:13

Yeah I'm feeling good thank you @Carleyxo. I'm taking lots of time to chill out this week. How are you?

Carleyxo · 15/01/2020 20:51

@ttcbabyONE hopefully that works.

That's so good @Sylva123 I'm pleased you are, I'm actually feeling very relaxed this week, completely normal so I'm sure it hasn't worked this month. I have my bday coming up so lots of planning things to do and work is busy so I'm focused on that :-) x

Sylva123 · 15/01/2020 20:59

@Carleyxo normal & relaxed is good. What date are you testing?
If I forget to say it, good luck to your OH on Friday as well.
Exciting about your birthday. I hope it's a nice distraction from everything. X

Sylva123 · 15/01/2020 21:00

Also @carleyxo are they scanning you at all?

TTCbabyONE · 15/01/2020 21:01

@Carleyxo thank you!

Just having a read through the thread now.

Do any of you take vitamins? Me and my partner have just started taking some, not sure it will make a difference but worth a try I suppose xx

Sylva123 · 15/01/2020 21:09

Welcome @ttcbabyone!

I'm taking quinone Q10 (I'd never heard of it but it's recommended in the It Starts With The Egg book) and I'm taking pregnacare preconception, fish oil omega something, vitamin D spray and now the iron spray as well (thanks for recommending @Carleyxo.)

I think the others are taking some other things too. My OH is taking the Wellman ones.

How are you feeling so far? X

TTCbabyONE · 15/01/2020 21:18

Hi @sylva123

Glad to have a thread where everyone is on the same page.. finally people who get it!

I’m taking pregnacare atm, would you recommend vitamin D and iron spray? Never even heard of them, there’s so much I don’t know. OH is taking Wellman too.

Trying to be positive, feel like I’m getting the hang of what’s what. I just can’t wait to get my next cycle cracking. AF is due any day.. after taking provera to induce. So my cycles are about 8 weeks, always feels like I’m constantly waiting which is why i feel disheartened as so long between each chance. Xx

Sylva123 · 15/01/2020 21:25

I'd say definitely go for the vitamin D because most of us are deficient in the winter. When I had my bloods done my vit D was low. You can get a mouth spray version from boots which actually tastes nice and minty. It all starts costing a lot though.

Bloody hell 8 week cycles - I can imagine that is so frustrating. I feel like TTC is just one massive waiting game. Like a big queue and we can't see if it ends just around the corner or if it ends miles down the street. Glad you've got AF coming with the provera though, to move it along. Are they scanning you and checking bloods for ovulation and all that stuff as well? It's hard cos they don't give much information at all do they xx

TTCbabyONE · 15/01/2020 21:42

Thanks I’ll deffo check that out!

Literally, that analogy is the best! I just wish I knew what was going to happen 🔮

Last cycle I had a scan on day 13 with mature follicles so should have ovulated that weekend, then bloods on day 23.
Which showed I didn’t ovulate. So then begins the long waiting game to start all over again with provera.

I had to phone and leave 6 messages for a call back to find out about this cycle dosage as I thought it would need to increase.
It is so frustrating isn’t it because you want to make sure you follow all the steps for best possible chance but it’s hard to do that with the lack of information xx

Carleyxo · 15/01/2020 22:12

Thank you @Sylva123x I'm so eager to find out if it's changed at all due to the no baths and all the vitamins!

My routine is similar to clomid so they always scan on the first cycle and then bloods which I had done today and then once this prescription has been used (3 cycles worth) I have my review with the consultant which had been arranged for April sometimes she may prescribe us three more months worth and then same procedure I have a scan and bloods on the fourth cycle.

I think my blood results come back next week so I'll let you know what they say, I'm then due on next Wednesday/Thursday so I probably won't test I'll just wait till then.

@ttcbabyONE vitamin wise I'm on CQ10 like Sylva, Multi Vit spray, iron spray and Vit D spray (I take the sprays all year round anyway) then the Wellwoman vitamin. My husband takes:

Wellman, CQ10 as it improves sperm concentration and movement, Selenium which helps sperm growth and speed, Lycopene (antioxidant) which improves the quality and keeps them in healthy shape and also Folic acid as that's been proving to help the count. His analysis showed high count and good motility but morphology was just 2% which is why he takes all the above :-) we will know next week if they have helped or not x

Sylva123 · 16/01/2020 10:32

@TTCbabyONE I feel you. When my doc was on holiday the receptionist just shouted at me down the phone "I dont know anything about letrozole" I asked to be put through to someone who does know about it, at which point she held the phone up to another phone and I spoke to who-knows-who about it. He told me to double the dose. Now my doc is back she said I shouldn't have doubled the dose cos I was ovulating, it was just really early. It is a mine field!!
Have you been trying long? I wonder why the egg didn't come out. Similar thing happened to me on the clomid and so she gave me something called the HCG trigger shot which is meant to make it come out of the follicle if its being a little shy and staying in there. So they might do that for you if its the same sort of thing.

@Carleyxo I hope the blood test results are okay. It's not long now. You're half way through the TWW and you're keeping really calm. You're doing great! Got everything crossed for you. x

TTCbabyONE · 16/01/2020 10:59

@sylva123 Wow that’s so bad! I feel like sometimes they pass the buck but at least now you’ve spoken to your Dr. I did wonder did I ovulate later than they expected and missed it, as it seems like other people ovulate super early or late on letrozole. I’ll ask about the HCG trigger shot when I go for my next scan as it’s a mystery why I didn’t ovulate.
When she told me to up my dose she didn’t say don’t try before the follicle scan - which is what they said the first month. So do you think it will be ok if we dtd before my scan on this new dose?

We’ve been trying for over a year. But I don’t have any periods at all, so I was lucky my GP referred us quite quickly to find out what was going on. What about you guys?

@Carleyxo will keep my fingers crossed for you xx

Sylva123 · 16/01/2020 11:10

I'm no expert but I reckon it would be ok. I'm sure someone told me the risks of multiples aren't the same on letrozole as they are on clomid but I could be wrong! But if she didn't say anything then I reckon it's safe to dtd.
It's good that your GP referred you and they've got on it so quickly. A year is still a long time when you're going through it. We've been trying 2 years and 4 months now. I never thought it would be this long!

TTCbabyONE · 16/01/2020 11:31

Yeah we were so lucky to get referred when we did, my worst fear was being told to come back in a year-18 months. Bless you, definitely feel for you @sylva123, is yours unexplained? (Sorry if you’ve mentioned previously in thread)

I was talking to my friend the other day and we were saying it’s drummed into you when you’re younger that if you have unprotected sex you will get pregnant. And then you just assume when you want a baby, 9 months later you will have one. But no one ever tells you that might not happen quickly or it might take a while 😞

It will be worth the wait 💕

Carleyxo · 16/01/2020 15:07

Thanks ladies, if it's any help my
Consultant told me multiples are a lot less and to have sex it would be fine. the nurse wasn't best pleased as I did have two eggs ready to ovulate and said it's naughty as I may not of wanted the potential twins. I don't care though, I just want a baby!
They referred me quite quick to because of my no periods @TTCbabyONE it's because the hormonal imbalance can effect your bones too apparently x

Sylva123 · 16/01/2020 20:25

@ttcbabyone yeah kind of unexplained - I do have a luteal phase defect (not enough time between the ovulation and the next period for a fertilised egg to implant. It should be about 12 days but mine is often just 8 or 9), but some people have that and manage to get pregnant, and I have had some cycles where the luteal phase was okay... So I think they're classing it as unexplained. All the other tests were totally fine.
Is yours unexplained too?

@carleyxo that is interesting. I had two follicles on Tuesday - it'll be interesting to see if both are still there at my scan tmw.

Good luck with your OH test as well. My husband got to see his under a microscope when he went and it weirdly made him more thoughtful about it all. I think men are such practical creatures it doesn't seem real til they can see it. Hope it's improved with all the vitamins etc. Did he agree to cut down his gym sessions?? My OH has agreed to stop vaping for a week. Xx

Carleyxo · 16/01/2020 20:29

Oh that's amazing that they could show him I bet that was so interesting, a week is definitely a start, is that to see how he copes? You'll have to let us know if they're still there tomorrow! I get my bloods back Wednesday ish to confirm it I ovulated which I think I did but as I say not sure if I missed it this month as we didn't have sex after ovulation just before and on the day however I am reading a book called the fertility plan which is so interesting and it says the vital time is before and on the day of. @Sylva123 x

Carleyxo · 16/01/2020 20:29

And yes he agreed to do a lot less weights and has given up two days a week so I'm so glad and he's agreed it's actually nice to have time off of it x

Sylva123 · 16/01/2020 20:40

Ooh I'll look that book up @Carleyxo. My fertility apps & my reflexologist also say the vital time is before and the day of, so I think you've still got a really good chance. The sperm needs to be up there waiting and you timed it perfectly right for that. The SMEP says to do it every other day before and then those 3 days in a row when you get a positive - but I think that's because when you get a positive that's usually the day before ovulation, so it covers off the day before and the day of. Then it says do it a couple more times in case ovulation is later than u think. I think you've dtd on enough of the important days for sure.
Is that Fertility Plan book worth buying?

That's so good that he's willing to do less weights. That shows you he definitely cares as much as you do and you're in it together. That's a big relief for you isn't it.
My OH has agreed not to vape this week cos this is when we're dtd and I'm hoping he'll just stay off it after that, if it goes ok for him🤞.

TTCbabyONE · 16/01/2020 20:47

@sylva123 They first thought PCOS but my tests were normal so atm it’s unexplained. I just didn’t have periods at all and I wasn’t ovulating as was doing tests all the time for month on end. My periods never went back normal after stopping the pill 2 years ago so they think my hormones need a jumpstart. Me and OH are trying to lose weight as they think this might help too.
Good luck with your scan tomorrow x

@Carleyxo, They told me about multiples in the first month incase of over stimulation but she didn’t mention anything this month so I think I’ll just go with it.
That’s interesting I would never have linked bones and hormones, it’s weird how it all links together. Hope your OH tests go ok x

Carleyxo · 16/01/2020 21:18

How was your scan the first month? @TTCbabyONE you sound in exactyl the same position as me. I was on Cerazette for years and came off it for a year to try get my periods back (way before trying) and it didn't happen then I went on the injection for a year and I still didn't have periods or I had one in a blue moon. That was 9 years ago. I've had a handful throughout the time, I definitely blame the pill and all the false hormones - never again will I go back on it.

Yes apparently no periods can mean low oestrogen and that can cause osteo problems which is what I ended up with x

TTCbabyONE · 16/01/2020 21:28

Same I will never go back on any hormones, it’s the worst thing I never did. I was only on it for a year before that had normal periods every 28days - the dream! @Carleyxo

I had some mature follicles and she said she was 99% sure that I would ovulate any day. I’m not sure how big they were or need to be to go, I don’t really understand all that yet. I’ve also got a fibroid on one of my ovaries but she said that’s not getting in the way.

I think I’ll go back this month for a scan then she will leave me for a cycle with no scan. They my consultant said I would need my tubes checked, 3 more cycles of letrozole and then go to IVF.

How many cycles have you done? xx

Carleyxo · 17/01/2020 07:15

It's crazy isn't it the things we put in our body then the effects it has.
Did you say they've already checked your tubes previously? Is the IVF through nhs? I don't really understand it still but I usually ask the measurements and then come on here to look 😂 next week when period is due will be my second cycle of letrozole then I have my last end of feb then review in April.

I've already had six cycles of clomid too @ttcbabyONE
