IVF / ICSI in April / May

Hi all, I'm starting a thread for anyone expecting to start a new IVF cycle in April or May. I've been keeping an eye out for one, but realised I could just start it myself!

I'm 37 and about to start my second stimming cycle. I've had two FETs from my last cycle, both of which sadly ended in miscarriage, so we'll be PGS testing this batch if we hopefully get some good enough to test and freeze. On higher doses this time around, so a bit worried about side effects. Found it fine last time though (except the interminable waiting).

Anyway, please come and introduce yourself if you're in a similar boat Smile

Hi @WestyNottingham I'm guessing you're from Nottingham?! I'm pretty local to you. I think it's normal to shit yourself. I am. And my anxiety is horrible right now. One day I can have a day I'm so positive and excited, the next I'm sobbing and daren't go through with it!

DK2019 · 25/04/2019 21:20

Hi Ladies
Initial consultation tomorrow after all testing. Not sure what to expect. Was told it would be 8 weeks from tests but they rang the day after to make an app for less than a week later! Confused
Any advice? Tips on Qs to ask?

Todey84 · 26/04/2019 11:30

Clinic phoned ...2 poor quality and 2 good quality embryos, so looks like I may be more likely to have transfer tomorrow instead of Monday. They asked if I had thought about transferring 2, so that may be an option. Not sure what to do if it is. What r your opinions on transferring 2 instead of 1?

Cocorocky1 · 26/04/2019 11:55

Go with your gut feeling x

Viletta · 26/04/2019 12:36

@Todey84 all doctors that I have talked to strongly suggested transferring 1. There is a site called 'one at a time' that gives more info about this movement. I would talk to the doctor to see what they recommend.

Ginandtonic31 · 26/04/2019 12:40

@Todey84 my funding only allows me to have one. I'm a bit annoyed but they say it's because the outcomes are proven to be better. I think I would still be tempted by 2

Deeny83 · 26/04/2019 12:44

@Todey84 i was told by my clinic the preference is 1 as sometimes 2 can cancel eachother out, not sure if that helps or not, best of luck with whatever you choose and maybe ask the clinic what they would recommend, they're the ones that see what works well and what doesn't work well.

mumsey2be · 26/04/2019 12:45

@TODEY84 my clinic strongly discouraged double transfer because they said they get a lot of late losses - second trimester - from those with twins. That was enough to put me off, even though i would love twins! I just want a take home baby after 3 years tbh. And the SET - or single embryo transfer, research, suggests there is no different in success between having one or two. I read a thread on fertility friends where 136 ladies discussed how many they had transferred and i would say about 80% of those who had 2 transferred got twins.

Todey84 · 26/04/2019 13:00

Such a difficult decision. I think the only thing is if I didn't get pregnant and no others made it to the freeze, I would wonder whether I wasted an embryo that could have potentially worked. Confused.....it may b a straight forward decision tomorrow, depending on what happens overnight. There is so much conflicting evidence, I have read where there is about 25% chance of twins with 2 embryos transferred. I think I may just c what the clinic advises. Their rate of twins is minimal as they avoid it. From the outset, I would have loved twins however the risks are very scary. Just think it may be worth the risk, in the hope of increasing the chances of getting pregnant at all. The clinic may well advise against it tomorrow.

MicroVic · 26/04/2019 13:05

@todey84 if you have 2 good quality id go with just transferring 1, I would be strongly tempted to do 2 if I had the option but my clinic will only allow to transfer 1 unless there are not grade A or your over 40.
They seem really focused on one healthy baby.

When I was coming round from my anaesthetic I asked if I could have all of them put back in lol I was talking a lot of shit 😂

Viletta · 26/04/2019 13:06

Tested again today 11dp5dt, bfn. No signs of af though... I'm now late 1 day. My OTD is Monday. I was planning to do another home test and cancel progesterone if it's still negative but wondering if it might be a good idea to do beta to exclude ectopic if af doesn't come... will ask my doctor on Monday I guess.

Viletta · 26/04/2019 13:10

Also just wanted to mention that this time both DH and I had very positive attitude throughout the process and really though it would work this time. Surprisingly we weren't completely gutted seeing bfn and decided to stay strong and keep being positive. I can't wait to start planning the next cycle, luckily we've got 2 frosties. Good luck to you all who is waiting for the next stage of this adventure! Sending you all good vibes and hoping statistically my bfn should increase the chances of you all getting bfp-s!

Deeny83 · 26/04/2019 13:29

@Viletta so sorry to hear that, sounds like you're both supportive of one another which is great to have, hope the clinic can give you answers OR OTD does a big turn around for you xx

Todey84 · 26/04/2019 13:40

@Deeny83 So sorry to hear that. Wishing u loads of luck with your frosties. xx

@Deeny83 Yes, maybe I should go all 4 if they make it. Lol. Think I will c how they r tomorrow and what the clinic advises.

Ginandtonic31 · 26/04/2019 13:53

@Viletta sorry to hear this. Would your period still come as I believe it won't until you stop the meds? I may be wrong.

@MicroVic I'm definitely not asking for all 11 back in 😂

Todey84 · 26/04/2019 13:54

Meant to say @ Microvic on 2nd post!

Viletta · 26/04/2019 13:56

@Ginandtonic31 last time AF came before OTD so I think it might be delayed by the meds but not excluded

Missmonkeypenny · 26/04/2019 14:29

3dp5dt and I am literally climbing the walls, this not knowing is going to be the end of me, definitely the worst part so far!

My body seems to be reacting in strange ways to the progesterone ( there’s me trying to symptom spot ): the worst trapped wind, so bloated I can’t do my trousers up, constant cramps and sleep? What even is sleep?!

Viletta I have my fingers crossed that you’re a late implanted and that BFN turns into a BFP for Monday Flowers it sounds like you and your DH are being very strong and pragmatic about it all, I admire that a lot! It’s also the stance DH and I are trying to take too!

MicroVic · 26/04/2019 15:07

So just had thr phone call and 8 out of our 9 eggs have split and are doing well so we are booked in for Monday, we wont know the grades until then so it'll either be 1 grade a or 2 lower grades.
Im know they wont all make it but am hoping we have enough to put a couple on ice.

@todey hope everything goes well tomorrow and go with the 2 If you feel like you'd regret it if things didn't work.
Im super hopeful for you and try and keep as relaxed as possible (lol I know that's hard)

@vellitia hope you get a good result, that af is not here is really good, you might have low hormone levels or have implemented late

Todey84 · 26/04/2019 16:14

@Microvic That's brilliant news, u must b thrilled. Sure u will end up with some frosties if u have 8 going strong. 👌

Todey84 · 27/04/2019 10:04

Clinic phoned and there are now 3 good embryos, so we have decided to wait and transfer 1 on Monday. Really worried that I may have no embies left by Monday, but the clinic advises this is very unlikely. So 🤞🤞🤞

MicroVic · 27/04/2019 10:40

@todey84 that's great news, lets hope the fertility gods are smiling on us Monday.
Are you nervous?

orangefolly · 27/04/2019 10:50

Eek @Todey84 and @MicroVic - wishing you the best of luck for Monday, very exciting!

@Missmonkeypenny the waiting is so hard. I hope the days speed up for you. And so frustrating that many of the side effects of progesterone are symptoms of pregnancy, so it's very hard to know!

My scan went well yesterday, so I'm now off the pill and waiting for a bleed. Then I can start on the stims on day 2 Smile getting going AT LAST!

@MicroVic I am more excited than nervous at the moment, but come Monday I will likely b more nervous. Exciting!! How r u feeling? Trying to think of something we can do this weekend to keep our minds occupied. 🤔

@oangefolly That's great news, glad everything is going well. 👍

My sister in law has a friend who had an IVF baby recently, she has said to drink pomegranate juice as if helps the womb lining. So will get some today, anything to help!
