IVF / ICSI in April / May

Hi all, I'm starting a thread for anyone expecting to start a new IVF cycle in April or May. I've been keeping an eye out for one, but realised I could just start it myself!

I'm 37 and about to start my second stimming cycle. I've had two FETs from my last cycle, both of which sadly ended in miscarriage, so we'll be PGS testing this batch if we hopefully get some good enough to test and freeze. On higher doses this time around, so a bit worried about side effects. Found it fine last time though (except the interminable waiting).

Anyway, please come and introduce yourself if you're in a similar boat Smile

Thanks @janey15 has it ever affected you in that you wish they were younger or did you just love everything as it was because they were your parents and it's all you knew? I'm early 30s too (32).

@Todey84 I'm not sure if I had heavy or light. The clinic just decided!

JLW14 · 22/04/2019 21:34

Thank you everyone!

Think I’ll be fine with the injections just the pain after the egg retrieval but hopefully we get our little bundle of joy I think there starting the process when my at arrives but it was a lot to take in at the app hopefully we will get more information on Thursday at the nurse app it’s a hour and half appointment

Viletta · 22/04/2019 21:37

@Todey84 I had both and both were absolutely fine, go with what clinic suggests. Light sedation makes you feel a bit high and fun, but i was still worried that I might start feeling something. The other one was just a 15 min nap and I felt sleepy for the next 30 mins. Good luck for EC! Exciting!

Todey84 · 22/04/2019 22:23

@Ginandtonic31 My clinic's standard procedure is to start off with light sedation and you can request more. However, they have said that I can request more at the start if I want to.

@Viletta Thank u for the info. A 15 min nap sounds lovely. Would b happy with that! Maybe I will c how I feel on the day then. 😙

Just don't want to be as uncomfortable as I was with the hycosy, although I only had paracetamol, ibuprofen and gas and air for that.

Ginandtonic31 · 22/04/2019 22:33

@JLW14 I didn't suffer much pain after both ERs. My first I only got 4 eggs and woke up with period cramps and could feel them for the rest of the day but was much better the next day. Second ER where I got 27 eggs I had no pain at all after and went straight out for brunch then got the train north from London.

@Todey84 ah it sounds like I had heavy as I had a nap! As I say above I came round and went straight out for brunch! I enjoyed the nap!

Lucindaa · 22/04/2019 22:55

@Deeny83 I'm clinging onto hope that the ClearBlue I used was a dud!

@Todey84 Thank you and good luck for Wednesday! I was under general anesthetic for my retrieval and I'll be honest it flew by! Best bit waking up seeing my husband, I knew I made it to the other side Smile

One thing is for sure I want to thank everyone on this thread. I promise to follow up the outcome of my Blood test on here tomorrow.

@Ginandtonic31 I thought it would be worse with more follicles! That's surprising, encouraging for anyone who has plenty of follicoes though. Sounds like the recovery is quick either way, so may stick with the plan of requesting lots to be as comfortable as absolutely possible. 😴

Ginandtonic31 · 22/04/2019 23:22

@Todey84 I know, I was massively surprised. It was a strange round really as I couldn't feel much before the retrieval either. The only thing to be aware of, after my first round I was so constipated it was hurting! I was ready to take laxative my second round but in the end never needed to! It was just such an easier round. Like I say, very strange! My first round I did hurt a bit at night but I remember saying to DH the next morning I can't believe how much of the pain has gone!

mumsey2be · 23/04/2019 09:05

@Todey84 I've only had full knock out so can't really give pro's and cons on both sides -but i am very squeamish indeed so prefer that. It is quite quick and you come round quickly. sometimes with some fun hand gurning and talking shite.

@ginandtonic31 You know what - i would totally ignore them. It's your life not theirs and your marriage not theirs. I've been lucky to have only supportive folk around us - we got married last year after 7 years together. Do i worry about him getting old, sick, dying etc? Of course. Is that going to stop me? Of course not. He is going to be an amazing dad and he is a wonderful man and very much not your typical older guy.

Hope everyone had a nice bank holiday, hopefully no one had to work. I had my second baseline scan this morning and my lining had reduced enough and they are happy to start the patches and reduce Buserelin. So happy I'm finally starting, I feel like I've been in limbo for ages. I'll have another scan next Tuesday. I have a work trip this week so hopefully it will take my mind off things. I'm not entirely sure when the transfer will be, it still feels like ages away.

Deeny83 · 23/04/2019 09:18

It's not looking too good for me, im 9dp5dt and this morning i woke up feeling like i was getting my period, got up to check and then felt really faint, had to get back into bed. This had happened a few times before when i get my period. Don't even think I'll make it to test day as i think my period will come before then

MicroVic · 23/04/2019 09:22

@Todey84 yes all planned for the morning. Had a rough time with the menopur, I was sick and dizzy for a few days but apart from that all good. How about you?

LillyLeaf · 23/04/2019 10:02

@Deeny83 not that I'm condoning early testing but my OTD in my first cycle was 9dp5dt, so you could do a cheeky test?

Deeny83 · 23/04/2019 10:13

@Lillyleaf it did cross my mind to test, but i just don't know if i want to see another negative result, i think its nearly easier to get my period. Or do i just get it over with and confirm it either way, i don't know, i literally change my mind every few mins!!

LillyLeaf · 23/04/2019 10:29

@Deeny83 maybe see how you feel tomorrow morning? I hate doing test too. The whole time we were naturally ttc I only ever did 1 test (I like to think I've paid for the IVF with the money I saved not testing).

Deeny83 · 23/04/2019 10:45

@Lillyleaf yeh, I think I'll buy one tonight and do it in the morning if AF doesn't arrive before then, ive also got accupuncture tomorrow morning so hopefully that will help me relax a bit and i might hold off until after my appointment before i do it

Viletta · 23/04/2019 10:59

@Ginandtonic31 wow, that's a huge difference with the amount of eggs you got the second time! Did you do anything to improve the egg amount?

Viletta · 23/04/2019 11:07

@Deeny83 I feel you, hate doing tests, the worst thing is seeing bfn and still hoping af won't come and keep doing progesterone.. having said that, cramps around the af time is normal for pregnancy too. Try to relax and hopefully the cramps will be gone soon!

Ginandtonic31 · 23/04/2019 12:09

@Viletta no I just did the same. Took a pre pregnancy vitamin and my usual vitamin D. My Gonal F was upped from 150/200 to 250 but that was it. I also had more follicles at my baseline scan too.

JLW14 · 23/04/2019 12:54

Gina - at our app last week she said I would need a couple of days off work so I’m hoping it’s not painful afterwards

Ginandtonic31 · 23/04/2019 13:11

@JLW14 I had mine on Fridays so had Saturday and Sunday at home anyway but could have gone to work the next day as normal.

Lucindaa · 23/04/2019 14:02

Hi all, unfortunately blood test result as suspected was BFN.

Not sure what to do or think now, exhausted our finances with this one attempt.

Our pee taking fertility clinic who I wish I could name and shame wanted to charge us another £185 for a follow up appointment which I politely declined Angry

I want to wish everyone success in the future and keep believing that one day our dreams will come true.

DaisyMay25 · 23/04/2019 14:09

So so sorry @Lucindaa xx

Viletta · 23/04/2019 14:49

@Lucindaa so sorry to hear that! I find IVF less stressful than trying to TTC naturally (that drove me completely bonkers), unless the huge financial factor. We went to Czeck republic for the second treatment and it was much cheaper and better than the UK clinics, including flights and Airbnb. Hope you rest well, regroup and start again!

Deeny83 · 23/04/2019 14:54

Thanks Viletta!

@lucindaa so sorry to hear that
