IVF / ICSI in April / May

Hi all, I'm starting a thread for anyone expecting to start a new IVF cycle in April or May. I've been keeping an eye out for one, but realised I could just start it myself!

I'm 37 and about to start my second stimming cycle. I've had two FETs from my last cycle, both of which sadly ended in miscarriage, so we'll be PGS testing this batch if we hopefully get some good enough to test and freeze. On higher doses this time around, so a bit worried about side effects. Found it fine last time though (except the interminable waiting).

Anyway, please come and introduce yourself if you're in a similar boat Smile

Test day is tomorrow.. very nervous but today slightly hopeful as even though I still have a slight cold and can hardly taste anything I have however noticed a slight matilic taste... hopeful 😁

Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you all xx

HANG IN THERE TIGERS...!!

my test date will be the 4th May. I'm praying for us all. ( And watching the Beyonce movie with a bit too much chocolate, ignoring the nice day outside).

Viletta · 18/04/2019 19:15

@DaisyMay25 my test day is 29th as well. I would have expected my period on the 25th so not sure why the testing is so late. I might test even later than that to be sure.. I'd rather see af than agonize over bfn if that happens

Cocorocky1 · 18/04/2019 21:08

I’m off to Cyprus on the 1st of May going for egg donation meds have been a bit hard the headaches are awful but keeping everything crossed for you all x

Viletta · 19/04/2019 07:39

@mumsey2be good luck in Cyprus! I have travelled to Czech for my treatment and it felt like a holiday

Bit late to the show but just want to introduce myself. I've recently started my first round of IVF (after a very long wait!). Started Norethisterone tablets a week ago, and start Buserelin injections this evening. Doing this all through the NHS/CRGH clinic.

We had a two month gap between when we were meant to start and when we actually started, partly due to awkward timings and NHS not being able to fit me in for a DET, but I think it's helped as I feel a lot more relaxed about it all then I did at start of the year. Still horrified by the bags of drugs I've had to pick up though. Do I actually end up needing all of them, or do they give you a mix in case you need one treatment over another at last minute? Not sure how I'd have the time to take them all! If there's one thing I've found with this process (not sure if this is the NHS, or with IVF in general) is that I never really feel informed enough!

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2019 10:44

@LennyFitz glad you've finally started. A the medication can be a bit daunting, my clinic only mixed what I needed by my next appointment. I'm sorry you feel like you're not fully informed. Perhaps it's your clinic? I'm also NHS and was fully informed of everything along the way. Buserelin gave my horrible side effects but I hope it's not as tough for you.

@DaisyMay25 Well perhaps it's just me (not IVF-related, but I can drive my boyfriend a bit mad sometimes when I ask too many questions - I always want ALL the information!), but if I'm given a big list of drugs it would be quite nice to have some accompanying info about what it's all for, rather than leaving me to have to spend a couple hours googling.

The IVF nurse has been very helpful, don't get me wrong (and I'm appreciative of being able to get this first round on the NHS thankfully) but the route from initial fertility tests through to visiting RMU clinic and starting course has definitely felt a bit unorganised and under-informed at many times.

Re. Buserelin - appreciate the concern but perhaps telling someone about awful side-effects just before they start is not a great idea :) Sorry to hear you had a bad time. I guess I'll have to wait and see - from what I've read people seem to have wide-ranging effects from not much at all, to raging sweats and headaches etc.

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2019 12:00

@kels290700 how'd you get on today?

@Deeny83 how you getting on?

Viletta · 19/04/2019 12:15

It's 6 days before af and I started feeling heavy and sort of crumpy... I know cramps are totally fine but still.. erch

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2019 12:17

@Viletta how many days post transfer are you? I had awful cramps yesterday but they've seemed to eased up today. Hopefully they clear up soon for you too 😊

Viletta · 19/04/2019 12:28

@DaisyMay25 I had ET on Monday the 15th. So should be day 4 if you count et as day zero. Same for you?

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2019 12:31

@Viletta yea same day as me, hopefully the cramps are a good sign! I wonder why your test date is so late on. Try and take it easy and hopefully they don't last long

Viletta · 19/04/2019 12:37

@DaisyMay25 thank you:) we are flying back home today so it should take my mind off things a bit. My test day is 29th, we had 5 day embryo transfer. Good luck with the 2ww, hope you are keeping yourself relaxed and positive! X

Ginandtonic31 · 19/04/2019 14:52

Hi all, I am potentially starting medication for FET in May. Although I don’t know if this is normal but suddenly having second thoughts and worrying about everything! Also since doing two egg collection rounds I’ve found my mental health is really suffering. I don’t know if that’s the hormones or what!

kels290700 · 19/04/2019 15:40

A BFN today... gutted

kels290700 · 19/04/2019 15:42

@daisymay25 @denny83 a BFN 😔

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2019 15:47

@kels290700 so so sorry

Deeny83 · 19/04/2019 16:17

Ah @Kels290700 so sorry to hear that! Thats just crap, look after yourself now, treat yourself or just do something for you, you deserve it xx

@Daisymay25 im getting random sharp pains every so often kind of low down in my stomach, don't know what to think really. Trying to see it as a positive or it could just be wind 🤣the long weekend will help keep my mind off things. Hope your keeping well

@lennyfitz i got a lot of spare medication, ended up giving 2 gonal f pens back and could have given 3 cetrotide injections back but i made a balls of my last one and ended up using the spares, so thats what im guessing there for. You'll be a pro in no time taking them all!!

Deeny83 · 19/04/2019 16:20

@ginandtonic31 its such a stressful time and it is definitely a worrying time, could you take some time out just to catch your breath, like a night away or something before you start meds again x

DaisyMay25 · 19/04/2019 16:25

@Deeny83 haha lets hope it's the something positive! I had cramps yesterday but nothing today. I think just today it's dawned on me that this might not have been successful, just six more days til test day. Going to do a FRER tomorrow but that's it until blood test on Thursday.

Ginandtonic31 · 19/04/2019 17:18

Hi @Deeny83 we had a holiday last month and have one in a few weeks but I’m just so uncertain about things right now. I suppose it’s just the affect of everything. I’m also worrying about everything too and the future. My husband will be 46 in May and it worries me it’s too late to transfer now really.

Sorry everyone! I was great through stimms both times but gearing up for a FET and all the drugs terrifies me.

Todey84 · 19/04/2019 17:28

@Kels290700 Really sorry to hear u got a bfn

Had my 2nd scan today since taking menopur. Steadily growing and looking like there will hopefully be at least 5 follicles 16mm or above. I have 5 smaller ones, but doubtful any will b mature enough. Not many but hoping we still manage to get to the embryo stage.

Good luck for everyone waiting to test. 🤞🤞🤞

@Ginandtonic31 Does your clinic offer counselling? May be worth utilising if they do. I haven't used the service, but sounds like it my be worth u getting the support if available. Meditation an mindfulness could also help calm your mind. x

Todey84 · 19/04/2019 17:31

@kels290700 Do u have any frozen? x
