Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Smile

I tried headspace and calm. I didn't end up subscribing as by the time the free trials had run out I'd pulled myself out of the misery a bit. I do think maybe I should start again though....

So, I have a very minor problem. I got carried away a few months ago after a bfn and went on groupon and booked half price teeth whitening! You can't go when pregnant so in my head that meant you have to go in the first two weeks of a cycle. But somehow I now have 27 days left to use it and it's nearly impossible to fit in around work and dd as my husband's been working on Saturdays! Should I a) try and sell it locally or accept I'm not going or b) try and do it before it expires, but during a two week wait? I appreciate this is such a non problem. I've never had my teeth whitened before! Grin

@Chuktuk009 maybe talk to your husband about the keeping it secret thing. That would really eat me up not being able to moan about ttc to people. I know I said I don't like talking about myself, but getting a bit of sympathy from close friends and family has really helped me to cope a bit. Maybe he'll be ok with you just telling one person?

Pinktruffle · 11/05/2019 22:56

I don't cope very well or stay positive but much like the rest of you, I try and tell myself that if I got pregnant once I can get pregnant again (and hopefully have a positive outcome this time).

I try to go walking when I can, helps clear my mind and de-stress me. DH and I went to a reservoir today, it was lovely. My job is quite stressful, I work in child safeguarding in a high school (you can only imagine the bitterness that stirs up for someone who struggling with infertility) so I've started having acupuncture to reduce stress and aid fertility too (hopefully). I use meditation apps as well, the Head at my school recommended Headspace to me and it is quite good. DH is a very positive person so he does help steer me to the positive sometimes, when I can avoid being cynical as that is my nature (I don't know how he puts up with me tbh).

I no longer do pregnancy tests until my period is actually late so not done one in quite some time.m I usually just wait and see if AF shows up. I find the negative tests really crushing.

I will also hopefully start my PTSD counselling soon as my GP said she will try and rush my referral through as urgent and have been thinking about taking up yoga as I used to do it many years ago. I've got a free class booked for a couple of weeks time but we'll see if I keep doing it.

@seven201 my husband would be fine if I wanted to talk to someone, it's completely a joint decision. Unfortunately early on in our TTC journey we told some close friends who shared the information with others, I found out whilst I was having a miscarriage. It was so hurtful we have completely lost trust in everyone and to protect ourselves we decided to keep the information to ourselves. Hubby suggested telling family if we get to IVF but to be honest even the conversation made me so upset.

@seven201 regarding the teeth whitening, I would do it in the 2 week wait, but it's completely a personal choice. Could you ask for them to extend the date?

seven201 · 12/05/2019 08:22

Oh yes I do acupuncture too. I initially went to help fertility but I do find it quite relaxing. I only go once a month ish as it's expensive.

@Chuktuk009 that's totally fair enough if you don't want to talk to your friends and family. Sorry they broke your trust last time. You can talk to us on here anytime.

I think I'll just try and book the teeth whitening and have an awkward conversation about if I can do it or not!

doomkittycleo · 12/05/2019 16:53

@Seven201 I’m coming to the end of Invisalign treatment and teeth whitening is part of the package. I hope it won’t affect me as it’s not gonna get to that stage for another 12 weeks. It is via a dentist though so I don’t know if that changes anything.

I tried acupuncture when trying for DD and although I enjoyed it initially, it got more painful each week and the woman kept trying to sell me all these expensive essential oils etc. It actually caused me more stress in the long run.

@Chuktuk009 I would suggest considering who you might trust to talk to about IVF. When we started enquiries before DD I realised how involved it was and it scared me a lot. The amount of injecting yourself and side effects sounded pretty stressful.

I’d imagine you’ll want someone to vent about it too. If you really don’t want to there’s always us, but just think about it.

seven201 · 12/05/2019 19:17

That's reassuring @doomkittycleo , thank you.

I think acupuncture is one of those things some people just hate. It only hurts me when the needles go in. I don't think it's helping my fertility at all but I always get a really good nights sleep after!

seven201 · 13/05/2019 16:43

Opk advice please. So, I use clearblue advanced and internet cheapies. The internet cheapies are absolutely negative, barely a second line visible at all. The expensive clearblue turned to high fertility yesterday morning. I don't know which one to trust?! I think the clearblue one is wrong. In the past we have had too much sex burn out 'just in case' it's the right time and i really don't want a repeat of having sex every other day for the next 30 days!! Has anyone had a batch of internet cheapies that are just dud? Maybe I should by a mid range one?! Thinking aloud there. I know I'm overthinking this. I'm on cd14 btw.

Marmite83 · 13/05/2019 17:30

The clearblue ones have always been reliable for me. Is it the flashing smiley you got? The Clearblue ones detect two hormone surges whilst I think the ICs will only detect one so that could be why they're different.

seven201 · 13/05/2019 17:35

Yes it's on flashing smiley. Good point about how they're looking for a different hormone too! It might just mean flashing smilies for many many days as I've had that before, although I think the cheap ones have shown at least some line when that's happened. I wasn't on clomid then though so that could have affected things.

doomkittycleo · 13/05/2019 19:37

@Seven201 if you scroll through the previous posts I’ve put photos of my opk progression on here. The first month I used the really cheap ones (which I found to have very faint lines that were hard to read). This month I used a brand called Wondfo (which seems to be what many women on the American message boards use). I found the wondfo ones had more dye in them and therefore easier to read.

It is worth noting that on the clearblue advanced one some people get as many as 9 days of flashing smileys, so a flashing smiley doesn’t mean much as it could be a while before your LH surge hence why nothing is showing on the internet cheapies yet.

With the clearblue one I have found that the pink one (not the purple advanced, just the basic clearblue one) is the easiest to read, it doesn’t go flashy, just straight from O to 🙂 so you don’t have the many days of flashing where you’re BDing like mad when it’s too early. Plus you’re not squinting at lines every day.

I’ve gone with a combination of the pink clearblue and the wondfos this month and they did go positive the exact same day, so I found that much better.

I hope that’s helpful.

doomkittycleo · 13/05/2019 20:40

To save you scrolling here’s both cycles for comparison.

Cycle 2 there’s only 1 clearblue one as it went positive the first day I tested.

@doomkittycleo you are amazing thank you!
I'm walking home from my acupuncture appointment and have just ordered the wondfo from amazon to be delivered tomorrow! I'll use up my clearblue advanced ones then buy the pink version when I run out.

doomkittycleo · 13/05/2019 21:01

@Seven201 you are very welcome, glad it’s helpful.

I’m 13 dpo and starting to get signs of af being on the way. Boohoo it’s my birthday tomorrow.

DD ended up with a 42 degree fever on Saturday night so we were up half the night waiting for the out of hours Dr to call, then had to go to the urgent care centre first thing Sunday morning (she has a throat infection).

I’ve had a fever all weekend myself too so don’t feel much like celebrating and I’m not getting any presents because to everyone who asked what I wanted I said I didn’t know as there’s nothing I need.

Meh I’m gonna get an early night! Feeling rottenSad

seven201 · 13/05/2019 21:31

You're not out yet! When I was pregnant with dd I had no idea as I had pre-period pains for a few days so was convinced I was out that month.

Sounds like a stressful weekend. You deserve the early night!

doomkittycleo · 14/05/2019 07:15

@Seven201 I know I’m not out yet, I had period pains with DD too, but they started earlier.

I’ve just got a feeling this isn’t my month.

seven201 · 14/05/2019 08:28

Fingers crossed for you x

doomkittycleo · 14/05/2019 09:01

@seven201 thanks

Pinktruffle · 14/05/2019 16:38

It's my birthday today and I'm feeling a bit miserable. Another year that I've failed to become a mum and another year meaning the probability is getting less likely.
I've also started to have some of my usual tells that AF is on the way so I don't think this month will be my month....... again

Marmite83 · 14/05/2019 17:15

Happy birthday @Pinktruffle, I can understand how you're feeling. My birthday is next month and my dh keeps asking what I want but all I want is a baby. Hope you manage to enjoy your day a little at least.

seven201 · 14/05/2019 18:05

Happy birthday @Pinktruffle . Are you doing anything to celebrate this evening? When I'm feeling down I like to stuff myself with chocolate and go a little bit mad internet clothes shopping. I hope your day improves. Cake

bookworm18 · 14/05/2019 18:05

Hi everyone, do you mind if I join? I've been a long term lurker but now we have started our clomid journey it would be great to talk to others on the same journey.

TTC #1
Cycle 12 but been trying about 18 months
I have PCOS so cycles range 30-70 days

Just finished first clomid tablets (2-6) and I'm on CD 8. Currently waiting for first scan which will be on CD 14. Not sure when to start BD as we normally start later so we don't burn out! Smile

seven201 · 14/05/2019 18:31

Welcome @bookworm18
Do you track ovulation at all? I think some people can ovulate early on clomid. I'm on cd 15 of my fist clomid cycle and don't think I've ovulated yet. We started sex from day 8 and am worried about burn out too! We're not going to do it as much as previously though.

Marmite83 · 14/05/2019 18:49

Welcome @Bookworm18

I ovulate 2-3 days earlier than normal on Clomid. If you dont want to do OPKs then I'd suggest starting a few days earlier than you would normally. Good luck!

bookworm18 · 14/05/2019 19:32

Thanks @Marmite83 and @seven201. I use Ovusense to track ovulation but that has varied from day 20 to day 58 and only tells me after the event. I think I'll get some cheap opk. They never used to work as my PCOS means my LH is always quite elevated but they may work on clomid! Im on 50mg to start and hope it will bring it forward as the long, irregular cycles are exhausting!
