New year, new 'starting the journey' thread

I know there are a lot of threads about people starting out, but they were all started a while ago and everyone seems a lot further ahead these days.

So.... newbies unite?

DH and I have been ttc for 2yrs. Saw our gp who ordered blood tests and sperm tests. He gave us a boat load of info..... jokes, he was pants. Told me I was 'fine' and husband was 'not fine', only detail was that DH has 4mil out of a necessary 16mil sperm, mentioned ivf and referred us to a specialist. That's all the info we got. Today I had a transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound. It was not the most fun 20 mins of my life but it was fine, now I'm trying to play Sherlock and figure out what the random numbers the radiologist was shouting about my ovaries meant. How about you?

Because I'm early stages, I avoided forums/Google etc because I'm prone to anxiety and didn't want to panic unnecessarily. Therefore apologies but I'm still trying to figure out all the abbreviations and lingo! Also sorry, I'm naturally sarcastic and a bit sweary, but that doesn't mean I'm insensitive - it would be great to share stories and support each other here

@kelly199 fingers crossed this is your month!! Thankyou me too! I have to take one injection for 4 weeks 😩 about 15 days after I start them have to go for a scan and then start taking some tablets aswell as the injections not looking forward to a whole month of them so transfer should be early June sometime. It’s goobv to be hard to come up with excuses why I’m no drinking for so long!

@finallytakingtheplungewithivf doesn't sound like a barrel of laughs but worth it for the bfp! Out of interest, say the transfer is in June, how long will it have been from ce your first ivf consultation/start of treatment to transfer?

@cloudSway our first appointment was in Aug 18 but we couldn’t start anything till 3months after that as we had been on a holiday where the Zika virus is present so that would of been November but due to various reasons we didn’t start until April had a nurses appointment in Feb I think to go through injections and then had to wait as was away for the March cycle hence starting April this year so it would of been a lot sooner if we hadn’t put it off so if we go from April I guess three months but again had a freeze all cycle so your then waiting for the next one! I think if all have been fine from start to finish it would of been 6 to 8 in sure it will be worth it and as this time we are not growing my follicles hopefully less uncomfortable!!

@Finallytakingtheplunge that was our 1st appt aug last year we ve got 8mnths still to wait before we start ivf

@2fingers22018 oh wow really I can see why your so frustrated with it all!! We are private though so I guess that’s why it hasn’t taken so long! Have you rang to see if you can get started sooner? Xx

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF i think al call nxt wk there might be some cancellations and the waiting list will have went down a bit but i doubt it lol worth phoning i suppose 2months down another 8to go the wait is literally driving me insane!

I had my 1st appt told id prob need ivf but they done a hycosy just to rule out blockages 100% had that done in march then finally put on a 10month waiting list if that makes sense x

@2fingers22018 yeah that’s awful but if calling helps you why not! Are you trying to get repaired in anyway before hand don’t know if that will help with fleeing like your in control of it! Xx

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. Sorry for dropping off the radar, been finding things really tough :( been to pilates this morning in a small window of motivation. Feel good for doing it but it's highlighted that I've totally neglected myself throughout this :(
I've had my follow up appointment letter with the clinic, it's in September. Got an ultrasound in early June. Think I'm having a hsg not laparoscopy. Got the letter to book that when next af arrives. Really hoping I don't have to do that, I'm scared :( feels like things are getting real. Also we want to go away, literally have one week in June when we can go and think if af arrives on time the hsg will clash, so will have to delay the hsg. Really feel like we need a break so going to prioritise that.

Don't know if it's related to the miscarriage or me starting ubiquinol but had a lot of ewcm pretty much every day last week. Don't think I have ovulated yet, cd12 today and that's my usual day. Dh is done now though 🙊 so will have to keep my fingers crossed we're in with a shot.

How are you @Kelly199? Think we're similar in our cycles aren't we?

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF that's a lot of injections! Hope all goes well with them. Early June isn't that far away 🤞

How are you getting on @squirrelnutkins1? Hope seeing your friend went as well as it could. Its really tough. I don't think people really get it unless they're going through it.
Been feeling frustrated with a close friend who I thought would understand - had over 10 years difficulty (but didn't do ivf etc) and ending up adopting. She's is trying to arrange a catch up with our larger group but all have young children and would be bringing them. I privately messaged her to say I'm feeling overwhelmed and still struggling (can still burst into tears at any moment) and I'd have to see how I felt on the day, especially going to a child friendly place. Got a dismissive reply saying I should go and no comment on how I'm feeling, didn't reply and not heard from her since 😢

Sorry you're having such a long wait @2fingers22018, are they trying anything else in the meantime, like clomid or iui? It's awful being in limbo x

@VenusStar nope i ovulate and OHs SA was fine we re unexplained so not much more we can do other than ivf. Sorry your friends not been there for you I had a friend like that yrs ago its really hurtful when your friends let you down x

Ah OK @2fingers22018. I only asked about clomid as my GP mentioned they may suggest that for me and I was confused as I do ovulate. He said they sometimes try it to give you a better shot. But I'm not sure my GP is that clued up on fertility! 😂 Are you trying anything different this cycle? X

@VenusStar oh really suppose anythins worth a try..well i had a sit down my OH about his loss in sex drive and he says hes fine with us trying self insemination. I have to admit its gave me a tiny bit of relief its takin the pressure off him and we ve not dtd during my fertile wk since i had my hycosy. Dnt want to get my hopes up but gives me something to focus on while we re on this bloody waiting list lol just need to order the pipettes online now x

All well here everyone; have been out riding this morning on my horse; had a lovely time. Have my baseline scan next month (so far away; marathon not a sprint I keep reminding myself!) although need to call them as DP is away working so he can’t come but I can’t see that being a problem he has came to the first one now etc.

Trying to just enjoy everything and no focus on it too much which is incredibly hard.

@venusStar totally agree with a break away Before hand and it was lovely just getting away and not concentrating on ttc/ICSI! Don’t me scared you will be fine with it all and it’s what your working towards!
Thanks it is a lot of injections but hey ho should be use to them now! Need to ring up to book in for a scan tomorrow for two weeks time! Least this time I won’t be scanned as often or need blood tests!!

@GrayC I went for most of my scans alone DH came when he could so I wouldn’t worry about that to much!

@VenusStarr sorry you're feeling crap. Yes, you can get lost in it all and lose time to focus on yourself! Will be good for you to have a little break, hope it'll all work out and you will be able to go somewhere.
Glad your letters have arrived so you know what dates you're looking at.

I'm ok thank you. Had my first ever smiley CB OPK yesterday!! (Didn't do one last month, but knew I ovulated because of my scans etc. So there wasn't a need).
I think we are. What CD are you today? I'm CD16. I'm sure we're pretty similar.
Really sorry about your friend, she should've definitely understood!! Some people are just too wrapped up in themselves to care for others feelings. She should've definitely given you support, especially knowing the heartache from being in a similar situation herself. Sending hugs ❤️
@2fingers22018 great news about the self insemination! Like you say, should take the pressure off. Hope you're feeling better knowing you have the option. Xx
@GreyC shouldn't be a prob, don't worry. My DP only came a couple of times when needed and that was further along xx

Im soo jealous lol it is hard to stay positive 100% of the time after 4yrs i just accept i ll have sum down days/weeks and i just let myself feel it its not healthy to bottle it up @FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF thanks i do tell OH most things we ve been together so long now we re always open but i felt bad bringing it up, im glad hes onboard and didnt seem bothered tbh @Kelly199 congrats on the +opk feels like you ve gotten over a massive hurdle when u finally get 1 ! @2fingers2208 yes I have a little horse :) I have been out jumping this morning in the sunshine it was absolute bliss. Makes up for the miserable rain we have had.
Yeah I agree the bad days definitely don’t outweigh the good days as I want to keep living life to the full regardless ❤️
