BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?

I've had my BFP after our first FET and in a bit of a state analysing symptoms/lack of symptoms. Had two losses prior to starting IVF so really can't get my head round what might be normal or not. Clinic will scan me at six weeks, but that is two very long weeks away! Anyone else in a similar position? xxx

Good luck today Hobbes and Becky. Hope all goes well.

I've booked in my scan for 7+4wks. Seems ages away right now. Will go for a blood test tomorrow to get exact Hcg level. Symptoms-wise, the achey boobs have kicked in and queasy feeling coming and going. Am hoping it won't be too bad as I am hoping to keep it quiet at work for as long as possible.

Hobbes39 · 30/05/2018 11:09

So had my scan - wasn't as reassuring as I'd hoped...

the good news is this time there was a foetal pole and it measured 6w4d, so only 2 days out, so I believe that's ok. Doc saw a pulse of a heartbeat - didn't measure it tho, and I didn't see it, but he and the nurse also saw it.
The bad news is the scan picture was v unclear - was really difficult to see properly and he couldn't see the yolk sac properly so I have to go back next week for another scan to see if we can see it clearer. I was SO hoping that this would be reassuring, but while there were positives it's got me so worried there is something not right. Sad feel exhausted - only just stayed vaguely sane clinging on to today as the day I'd finally be able to breathe out if we got good news, but now I have to hold my breath for another week...

becky114 · 30/05/2018 11:24

Oh @Hobbes39 really sorry to hear that you have to endure another stressful week my love, sending you big hugs. The fact that they saw a pulse is good news and you will get a much clearer picture at 7 weeks. Xxx

TryingToStayRational · 30/05/2018 12:02

Hobbes sorry you’ve got more waiting to do now. I hope the next scan turns out just fine and brings you reassurance.

Good luck for your scan too, Becky

I’ve got a bit behind as I’ve been away for a holiday, so apologies for the many things I’ve missed.

AFM, I’m 14 weeks now and am finally feeling a lot more like myself and have been back on my bike again which has made me so happy. Also I have stopped feeling sick and am generally not too tired anymore, which is just the biggest relief. I hope everyone else feels just as good!

I’m trying to stay off screens as much as poss and get outside more now, so I will keep watching but will probably not be about much. I hope everyone has a good week Smile

1Wanda1 · 30/05/2018 12:42

Sorry Hobbes that the scan wasn't as clear as you'd hoped. Heartbeat is encouraging though. It's so difficult in these early days to know when to feel we can be confident, isn't it? DW was saying last night that she is worried there might be something wrong with our pregnancy and how would we know? I said I suppose we can't know really until scan day, and even then it's hard in the early weeks.

Fingers crossed for you. At 7w I think the consensus is things are usually clear.

Janefx40 · 30/05/2018 13:13

@Hobbes39 sorry that you didn't get a clear reassuring scan. They saw a heart beat. That is a good thing. You have a fetal pole.

I'm not quite sure what it means that the scan wasn't clear - could it just be an issue with the angle or the equipment?

I'm so sorry you have another stressful week. Sad

Xxx

Decafplease · 30/05/2018 13:23

hobbes sorry your scan wasnt as reassuring as you hoped. it is still rather early and seeing a pulse is good. But its very hard to have to wait another week for confirmation. Sending you a big hug. X
becky how did your scan go?

Hobbes39 · 30/05/2018 13:25

Thanks guys...
@1Wanda1 - yes, I agree at 7w thins usually are clear - I'm one day off - 6w6days, so thought that we'd know one way or the other today...but there was a hesitancy to the doc that has me really worried. I thought I'd be jumping for joy about a heartbeat, but as he didn't say if it was a good one (don't think he could tell) I'm worried it may be non viable... I'll be a day off 8 weeks by the next scan. All I'm clutching on to is my retroverted uterus might be making it tricky to see... had things been all ok, they would have discharged me to normal pregnant person care, but they don't want to do that yet, which means they are concerned thins might not be all ok... Confused

Hobbes39 · 30/05/2018 13:26

I should add that they said the foetal pole was tucked in up at the side... rather than in the middle of the gestational sac - so hard to see...

rainylake · 30/05/2018 15:25

@Hobbes39 really sorry you're going through this. After so much waiting and anxiety, it's awful to have to wait another week to get some certainty.

Si1ver · 30/05/2018 15:59

I'm so sorry Hobbes. Hope the next scan is clearer and that the week's wait isn't too stressful.

wombats · 30/05/2018 19:48

@Hobbes39, so sorry you're still in limbo, it's a rubbish place to be. Still keeping everything crossed for you and sending a tight hand hold.

@Becky, how was your scan today? I'm not much on social media so won't be doing an announcement. Also remember how hard it was for me to see announcements and photos whilst we were struggling, so would like to avoid that hurt for others.

@bruges and @rational, glad to hear you're feeling better, I'm in the same stage, more energy, less sickness, feeling more reassured and a bit more myself. I can see why they say the second trimester is the best! @Bruges, we are due date twins, so will be thinking of you as we progress along.

Sending good thoughts to all xx

@wombats scan went well, but have a heart shaped uterus putting me at risk of premature labour. Sonographer was awful and didn't give me any information, just that I needed to discuss this with my midwife. I'm 12+5 due date 08/12/18 xxx

DameSylvieKrin · 31/05/2018 08:07

Oh Hobbes, how stressful. But it sounds like you’re in with a more than decent chance of things being OK next week, I hope it passes as fast as it can.
Good luck for today, Jane.
Becky, sorry you had a bad experience at the scan — I hope the midwife is more reassuring. At least you’ll know about the risk early on and will know the warning signs.
Glad you are feeling better, Rational.
How awful about your teeth, Decaf. They used to say that you lose a tooth for each baby so two seems unreasonable.
AFM I’m fairly sure now that one of the new physio exercises I was given set off the contractions. I’ve stopped doing it and haven’t had any further problems. I have an appointment with the doctor at the physio centre and a GP appointment tomorrow so will get some more information.
BTW if anyone else is as stupidly superstitious as me and not using stretch mark cream in case it tempts fate by assuming the pregnancy will continue, I woke up to a whole pile of them today. (I did start using the cream eventually but the marks are higher than I was putting it, all on the rib cage.)
With social media I‘ve decided not to put anything as it’s so much more fun to tell people in person! But plenty of people do, so I guess just do what feels right for you.
With my DD we have kept her completely off FB — a friend of mine puts pictures of everything including naked ones and potty training, and it really made us think about her privacy. We put one photo with a teddy bear hat from the back so that people would know she arrived safely.

Hobbes39 · 31/05/2018 08:58

Good luck @Janefx40, hope today goes well.
@becky114 sorry your sonographer was so rubbish - I don't understand why people who don't have a better bedside manner go into a job like that... hopefully as Dame says it's a good thing you know early so it can be monitored.
As for social media - when I was pregnant with my DS - back when I didn't have a clue about just how difficult it could be - I posted the occasional post of bump pics etc...this time, I won't be doing that if things continue - primarily cos I don't want to jinx it, but also I know know how painful it has been for me to see friends pregnancy announcements while going thru this so don't want to do that to anyone else.

If I ever get to the point of having an actual baby in my arms, I am considering positing then to say we've had the baby, but that it's been a long difficult journey to get there... I'm not sure though.

Janefx40 · 31/05/2018 09:15

@Hobbes39 how are you feeling after yesterday?

@becky114 i'm glad the scan went well - I've not heard of a heart shaped uterus before. Do you know what they mean by premature labour? Very early or just a little?

Super nervous about this afternoon. Boobs have shrunk down again - even DP admitted it. I know they shrunk last week and it was fine but it's still confusing as to why they keep doing that. No sickness or other symptoms either.

Plus I find it really upsetting going to the clinic. It's like all the stress of my cycle comes back.

Fingers crossed. App at 3:40 xx

SouthernBella74 · 31/05/2018 11:35

@Hobbes39, sorry to hear your scan wasn’t clear. Hopefully you’ll get better news next week. Hopefully this week will fly by! 🤞

@Becky, sorry you had a bad experience with the Sonographer. Unbelievable how awful health professionals can sometimes be 🤨 As for social media, we’ve decided not to post anything. Our families live abroad, so if all goes well, we’ll fly over to tell them in person.

@Janefx40, good luck for your scan this afternoon. 🍀

AFM, I started spotting last night - 6w5d...the day after my scan & being told all looked good. It was pinkish/brown & no cramps, but feeling so tense. It was this exact same week last year that I miscarried after a natural pregnancy. 😞 Continuing with my meds & trying to stay positive. Spoke to nurse @ clinic & she thinks it may just be an effect of the medication. Relaxing at home today and hoping for the days to pass quickly as my next scan isn’t for 2 weeks. 😬

Sorry for being a bit of a downer just now....

PonyPals · 31/05/2018 12:50

Hi girls,
It's great to see so many of you have got BFPs after cycling for so long.
I finally got mine but very worried about the hcg as it was only at 91 (10dp5dt).
Did a clear digital and it only came up as 1-2 weeks Sad
Tomorrow is another Beta (3 days after the first) not sure what to expect but don't think it will be good news.

PonyPals · 31/05/2018 12:52

@SouthernBella74 sorry to hear you are having a scare. The worry never stops!
Good luck @Janefx40

Si1ver · 31/05/2018 13:10

@SouthernBella74 I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully it'll all settled down soon.

@PonyPals my CBD said 1-2 weeks at 10dp5dt and had moved to 2-3 weeks at 15dp5dt (OTD). Hope I've read your post right and that your CBD was on 10dp5dt too.

Hobbes39 · 31/05/2018 15:52

Hi - welcome @PonyPals - try not to worry about the CBD - I had exactly the same worry, my HCG was only 56 on test date (9dp5dt) and I was so worried about it not doubling and being really low... I used the evil weeks predictor tests and these guys further on talked me down from the ledge then, and when I went I got blood test 4 days later everything had doubled fine! I think CBD should take them off the market to be honest!
@SouthernBella74 - sorry to hear about your spotting - hopefully it's nothing to worry about, especially if you e had no cramps, hang in there x
AFM - I'm trying to pretend all is fine and trying hard not to think too much about it this week. I'm still tired, slightly queasy and knackered, so fingers crossed it's all growing and there will be something much easier to see next week... 🤞

Janefx40 · 31/05/2018 16:01

@Hobbes39 glad you are coping with the madness.

@PonyPals welcome to the other side! I think (based on my obsessive research) CB digital cut offs are something like 200 and 2000. And they measure from ovulation not period. So 1-2 weeks just means under 200 which is more than fine for where you are.

X

Hobbes39 · 31/05/2018 16:16

How was the scan @Janefx40 ? X

1Wanda1 · 31/05/2018 17:44

Hope scan was ok Janefx40.

Ponypals the hcg level the Clearblue week's indicator needs to detect to say 2-3 weeks is 153. For 3+ weeks it is 2753. So if you were 91 at 10dp5dt and doubling every 48 hours, you will be in the 2-3 week zone by 14dp5dt. Try not to worry. I just got my beta hcg level from our clinic and the nurse said on the phone "anything over 25 is good". I am 13dp5dt!

Janefx40 · 31/05/2018 18:08

Thanks ladies. Scan was mixed. Everything has grown since last week but not as much as hoped. I got my dates wrong so am 7 weeks exactly today.

Last Friday I was measuring 6wk1 exactly and today 6wk5. So it's only grown 4 days worth in 6. The heartbeat was there and clearly faster but she didn't measure it so not sure if it has sped up the right amount or not.

The nurse was happy as said it was all within the normal range but I'm not reassured tbh.
