PGD treatment

Hello

I’m 29 and have just started PGD treatment. Both myself and my partner are fertile so we are hoping this works in our favour with the treatment. He has a genetic mutation which creates tumours so we are going down this road to prevent our children having the same gene. I wondered if anyone here has had this treatment? 3rd day in and I’m very nauseous! Hot sweats at night and general poorly feeling. Has anyone else experienced this?

Would love to hear from anyone who has had successful births with PGD too :-)

Thanks in advance,
Bek x

Welcome @grumpycat2019 😊 it's quite a lot to take in to begin with but you'll get it quickly!

@Ginandtonic31 I'm ok thanks, prepping for my transfer next month. You?

Ginandtonic31 · 01/06/2019 13:27

@Hoppy1985 I'm also preparing for transfer now. I've been on Buserelin for a couple of weeks now and got my first scan on tuesday.

Hoppy1985 · 01/06/2019 16:45

@Ginandtonic31 I have my scan a week on Tuesday! So assuming your scan's all good you'll probably have your transfer the week I have my scan!?

Ginandtonic31 · 01/06/2019 18:31

@Hoppy1985 I don't think so as I've got two weeks of Buserelin and then a scan on 4th June. If all ok then I do two weeks of Buserelin and estrogen and then if thick enough after 2 weeks my transfer is booked and o start the progesterone pessaries and I think transfer is the week after? Does that make sense? So I'm thinking transfer might be w/c 24th June if all goes to plan. When do you think your transfer might be?

Ginandtonic31 · 01/06/2019 18:33

Ooo I think I get you @Hoppy1985! You have that second scan a week Tuesday and I have the second scan week after you. So yeah transfer would be week after you

Hoppy1985 · 01/06/2019 23:10

@Ginandtonic31 I only had one scan last time and then they booked me in? Different protocol maybe? They said if my scan on 11th is good then they'd book me in for transfer the next week but as I'm away it'd be 24 or 25th I think

Ginandtonic31 · 01/06/2019 23:59

@Hoppy1985 I think we might be due a transfer around a similar time then!

grumpycat2019 · 04/06/2019 08:52

Hello Gin and Hoppy, I hope your treatments are going well.

May I ask what is covered in the genetic counselling appt? I've made a list of questions about the treatment and the relevant condition.

Is there specific stuff we should expect to be asked?

Thank you! X

Hoppy1985 · 04/06/2019 14:36

Hi @grumpycat2019 they asked me what I would do if it didn't work and I said I'm wasn't sure but we'd cross that bridge when we came to it. Otherwise it was actually more an opportunity for us to ask questions.

They checked my BMI I think to make sure I was eligible but they never subsequently checked it 🤷🏼‍♀️

MummyBearBoo · 07/06/2019 20:06

We started the PGD process but accidentally got pregnant while we were waiting for the appointment (no idea how we were being careful and I have PCOS) luckily our DD was fine but my genetic mutating has 50:50 chance of affecting a baby we have! I've had 1 TFMR due to this and am 8+4 now got dating scan on Tuesday as long as there is a heartbeat will have CVS again 2 weeks later -totally terrified! We're no longer eligible for PGD coz we have a 'normal child'
A girl with my condition has had 2 children through PGD xx

MummyBearBoo · 07/06/2019 20:08

Sorry forgot to mention it took her 3 cycles first time but they had to collect eggs again as she only had 1 unaffected first time -for for second baby it worked first time! Xx

grumpycat2019 · 07/06/2019 21:48

Thanks @Hoppy1985 :)

@MummyBearBoo good luck for the CVS. It must be agonising :(

MummyBearBoo · 07/06/2019 23:04

Thanks @grumpycat2019 - it is I can't be excited about being pregnant! It's horrible waiting see if I have to go through what has been the most traumatic experience of my life again or hopefully have the most rewarding experience of my life again!! Xx

Ginandtonic31 · 21/06/2019 19:11

@Hoppy1985 have you a date for transfer yet?

Hoppy1985 · 23/06/2019 13:34

Hey @Ginandtonic31 I had it on Saturday 15th. Long story! So I have to test this week but I don't feel positive about it at all. I think I just remember feeling different last time when I got a positive result. Dunno, hope I'm wrong.

Hoppy1985 · 23/06/2019 13:34

@Ginandtonic31 how about you?xx

Ginandtonic31 · 27/06/2019 20:08

I@Hoppy1985 oh what happened? I know you were hoping to hold on. Why not feeling positive?

I transferred yesterday. I was feeling positive but now convinced it won't work and it's only been a day!

Ginandtonic31 · 27/06/2019 20:09

Sorry meant to tag you @Hoppy1985

Hoppy1985 · 27/06/2019 20:20

@Ginandtonic31 basically I told the hospital the dates of my holiday abroad before I started the transfer cycle and during over both email and phone and they told me it was fine all the way through, they could work around it. Except, I went for my scan the Monday before the Saturday I went on holiday and they said I was ready for transfer BUT my holiday was a problem. I'd be on the medication too long if we waited till we got back and not long enough if we did it before the Saturday! So we basically had to buy new flights to fly out on the Saturday night after we had the transfer at lunchtime. I was livid!

Hoppy1985 · 27/06/2019 20:22

BUT don't give up because I was sure I wasn't pregnant but did my test yesterday morning and.....woohoo!Smile

PGD treatment
Ginandtonic31 · 27/06/2019 20:31

@Hoppy1985 oh what a nightmare!! Lovely to have a holiday in the wait though!

Ooo yay how exciting for you!! Why did you think it hadn't worked? My first one didn't thaw right so they did another one and on the form we signed it said 90% and I don't know what that means and if it should be higher! So now I'm convinced it's stopped dividing.

Hoppy1985 · 27/06/2019 20:50

@Ginandtonic31 yes it was a nice distraction I must admit! I don't know I just didn't feel any different and I remembered feeling different last time.

Now I'll just be on edge until my scan though because of what happened last time 🤷🏼‍♀️

They told me after it's defrosted they need it to expand back to the size it was before, maybe it just didn't have long enough to get back to 100% before they put it in because it was the backup when your first didn't survive? I would assume it would just continue to do it once implanted anyway. I wouldn't worry, I am sure they would have said if there was an issue! I will keep everything crossed for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 when is your test day?

Ginandtonic31 · 27/06/2019 20:57

@Hoppy1985 I don't know what it means but I had 11 in the freezer so hoping they're not all crap!! They did say it was expanding so hoping that's a good sign. Hmmm overthinking again. I should have asked more, I was just not really with it.

It isn't until next Friday. I'm satellite at Sheffield with the collection and transfer at Guys and Sheffield want me in for a blood test. So I might test Thursday at home. I'm scared I've been too positive now.

I went back to work today which was a nice distraction really but I'm starting to think about it a lot now and how far away Friday is. I've got a lot of things happening though between now and testing

Ginandtonic31 · 01/07/2019 21:47

@Hoppy1985 when do you have a scan?

I'm on day 5 and no signs at all. It's so hard not testing.

Hoppy1985 · 01/07/2019 21:55

@Ginandtonic31 I'm ok thanks, is it this Friday you test? Hold out because it'll just mess with your head if it doesn't show up (and there's a good chance it won't yet if you are pregnant!). How are you feeling otherwise? My scan is 25th xx
