PGD treatment

Hello

I’m 29 and have just started PGD treatment. Both myself and my partner are fertile so we are hoping this works in our favour with the treatment. He has a genetic mutation which creates tumours so we are going down this road to prevent our children having the same gene. I wondered if anyone here has had this treatment? 3rd day in and I’m very nauseous! Hot sweats at night and general poorly feeling. Has anyone else experienced this?

Would love to hear from anyone who has had successful births with PGD too :-)

Thanks in advance,
Bek x

Hi @ivf2019 you are very welcome. I am starting my final cycle in the spring after 2 failed goes and am very nervous about it so you are in good company. X

MummyBearBoo · 13/01/2019 21:58

Thanks @ivf2019 x

Hi, can I join you as well please?

I'm also having PGD at Guy's (another carrier of muscular dystrophy!), and after a very long wait of 2.5 years am due to start my first cycle this weekend!

Hoppy1985 · 14/01/2019 22:56

Hey @Holly147 ! Welcome to the club. When do you start your injections? What kind of Muscular Dystrophy? It feels like it takes forever to get to this point doesn't it! Good luck xx

Someone's post got moderated?! 🤔

Holly147 · 18/01/2019 13:12

Thanks @Hoppy1985! Yes, it does feel like forever! We did start the process a year or two before we actually wanted to have a baby but it still seems like a very long time.

I start injections tomorrow and am on short protocol (I think this is standard now at Guy's?) so egg collection should be the last week of January.

It's Becker MD, carried on the X chromosome so a 50% chance of passing it on - females very rarely have any symptoms so only males would be affected.

Hope all goes well for you in your next cycle xx

MummyBearBoo · 19/01/2019 10:32

@Holly147 my Myotonic Dystrophy is similar but it doesn't depend on the sex of the baby it depends on which chromosome 19 the egg i release has - so it's 50/50 chance like yours! I have one healthy DD which we accidentally (very happy accident) conceived while waited for our appointment to get PGD started and a boy who unfortunately was affected (we are no longer eligible for PGD as we have a healthy baby) so had to have a TFMR.

Hoppy1985 · 01/02/2019 08:53

@Holly147 how did your egg collection go? 🤞🏼

Holly147 · 02/02/2019 17:16

It went well thanks @Hoppy1985. I had it yesterday morning and got 17 eggs from 15 mature follicles Smile. We were really pleased with that, until the nurse came back in and said they weren't sure we had enough sperm to fertilise all the eggs!

OH had surgical sperm retrieval last year (he had a small number of twitching sperm but they said that should be fine) and they had taken a slide from the sample and only found one live sperm, but said they would take more slides and look for more. So we spent the night wondering whether we would have any fertilised eggs at all. The embryologist called this morning and said that 11 had fertilised! So very happy with that - just need to wait until Thursday to find out how many have made it to blastocyst stage. We're hoping for a good number as obviously could lose some in the testing/freezing process.

It feels frustrating as if we were having conventional IVF rather than PGD we'd be in a really good position now. It seems like there are so many stages to get through!

Have you started your cycle now @Hoppy1985?

Ginandtonic31 · 06/02/2019 23:38

Hi everyone, I’m starting round two on 15th February. I only got four eggs in our first round last summer. I don’t know if it will be any different this time but I hope so. Would love to wake up to lots of eggs! My medication is being upped this time so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Hoppy1985 · 09/02/2019 18:41

@Holly147 that's amazing!! Congrats 👍 @Ginandtonic31 did you get 4 collected or 4 to blast stage? I hope your second go will be a more positive experience. At least we all know what to expect now!

Ginandtonic31 · 09/02/2019 23:21

@Hoppy147 just 4 eggs. One to the freezer and it was affected.

Hoppy1985 · 22/02/2019 20:07

@Ginandtonic31 ah that really sucks! Your egg retrieval must be soon? I start my stims again the week after next.

Ginandtonic31 · 22/02/2019 20:24

@Hoppy1985 I had my 8 day scan today and not ready yet! Back on Monday morning. I’m hoping that it won’t be until at least Thursday! Do you feel okay about it?

Hoppy1985 · 22/02/2019 20:57

@Ginandtonic31 ah ok well 🤞🏼then!
I have my down-reg scan on Wednesday. I don't know how I feel about it tbh. I think I'm trying not to hope given it's our last go and what happened last time. I've done everything though....given up the booze, caffeine, eating healthy. How about you? X

Ginandtonic31 · 23/02/2019 08:10

@Hoppy1985 will you start on Wednesday if the scan goes well? Is your scan at Guys?

I know what you mean about hopes up. Our first round went so badly that this round I’m scared to get my hopes up but keep doing so. My scan felt really positive yesterday compared to last time and keep imagining lots of eggs but I’m terrified as it was awful waking up to just 4 last time!

Hoppy1985 · 23/02/2019 14:30

@Ginandtonic31 if all ok Wednesday (yeah scan at guys) then we will go ahead and start with Stimms. I know how you feel, I cried when I woke up after my second egg collection (and believe me, I am not a crier). I just had a horrible feeling and was proved right.

They've lowered my dose back down some this time as apparently the drugs, whilst they stimulate more eggs, they can have a detrimental effect on egg quality. So, who knows what will happens 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ginandtonic31 · 23/02/2019 14:43

@Hoppy1985 I cried too. They must be used to it. Oh god I hope that now if I get more they aren’t all bad quality. There’s never any flipping right answer is there. My drugs have been upped to 250 Gonal f rot this round. Although I only got 4 last time they were all mature and 3 fertilised so quality was probably ok. I’m worried this time I will get more but rubbish quality!

Hoppy1985 · 23/02/2019 20:50

@Ginandtonic31 don't worry they had me on 300 gonal f last time. I (think) they're putting me down to 250 - I was on 200 first time.

Ginandtonic31 · 23/02/2019 21:17

@Hoppy1986 I was on 150 so they’ve also put me up by 100. Maybe 100 is too bigger a jump 😕I’m feeling all anxious anyway tonight. Just general life anxiety.

Hoppy1985 · 25/02/2019 11:55

@Ginandtonic31 everybody's different though. Obviously didn't work at all for me but may work wonders for you! 👍

Ginandtonic31 · 05/03/2019 12:08

@Hoppy1985 how did your scan go and have you started now? I had EC Friday. I got 27 eggs and 19 have fertilised. Still worried about the quality after what we said last time and things I’ve read 😞I guess Thursday will tell more.

Hoppy1985 · 05/03/2019 13:19

Oh my god you've gone from 4 eggs, 4 fertilised to 27,19 fertilised?!Shock

That's amazing news! I start injecting tomorrow. I must admit I just have the total dread that it's going to be a complete dud again with none fertilised and then my journey will be over Sad

Ginandtonic31 · 05/03/2019 14:00

Last time 3 fertilised out of 4 and 1 made it to day 5. I’m so worried about the quality though!!

Don’t write it off yet. I was convinced nothing was happening as could hardly feel anything so when I woke up to 27 I was 😦 but like I say completely worried about how many will make it to biopsy. I’ve no indication of quality and worried because there were so many and seem to not have felt them anywhere near as much as 4 or suffered as much afterwards?! Anyway Thursday we find out.
