3rd or more time lucky - IVF cycle buddies October

Hobbes39 · 13/09/2017 16:15

Hi Just wondering of there are folks on here who are about to go through their 3rd + time of IVF who want a cycle buddy? I dont mean it badly towards anyone who is starting their IVF journey for the first time, (i was there just this time last year after all) but I feel a bit like I cant be as optomistic about it as I was, so dont want to drag any first timers down? Hope that makes sense!
Anyway, just to explain about me:
TTC #2 for over 2.5 years now
Unexplained Secondary Infertility (have 4 year old DS)
Age 40.5 Shock
AMH: 15.4
2 failed fresh and 1 falied FET (with single frozen 3BB embryo we got from 2nd fresh round)
about to start 3rd fresh round when my period starts in approx 7-10 days, so will probably be late october EC.
anyone else a bit jaded, but still vaguely hopeful want to join me?
xx

Purposely ignoring the above post as she seems to have posted on a few threads!
hobbes how frustrating for you.
decaf Great news, so so pleased for you
afm yes am pleased to have started stimming. It’s ok so far though hate that I have to have 2 injections. Next scan Monday

1Wanda1 · 24/03/2018 08:43

decaf great news your blood test came back with good results yesterday. How many weeks till you can have a scan? Will you have more blood tests in between?

Hobbes how annoying your cycle is up the spout. I've had everything from a 70 days cycle to a 21 day cycle since I started ivf, just makes it even harder to plan the rest of your life around the treatment, doesn't it? I hope yours settles down so you can go again next cycle.

bjones, hope you're feeling ok with stimming.

AFM we have a plan in place to try again with a medicated cycle starting with my next period, which could come any time in the next 2 (or more) weeks. Starting on 10mg progynova this time. I really hope the lining grows with no issues. Am now taking a whole load of supplements as well as having acupuncture. God knows if it makes any difference!

Decafplease · 25/03/2018 09:49

wanda you must feel better with a plan in place. Hope they stay on top of your meds this time & you get a nice pillowy lining!
bjones good luck with your scan tomorrow
AFM, just a long wait till 6th April for my 1st check scan.

Decafplease · 26/03/2018 15:31

Had brown spotting this afternoon. Had cramps all morning went to loo & saw it. Very scared its all over already. At work trying to keep a brave face - i hate this so much!

bjonesreborn · 26/03/2018 15:43

oh no decaf have you called clinic? Fingers crossed its nothing to worry about.
so pleased you have a new plan wanda
afm I had my scan this morning. I have 5 follicles growing nicely. I'm a bit disheartened to be honest as at this stage last year I had 9 follicles growing (from which they only managed to retrieve 4 eggs) Back again on wed for another scan.

1Wanda1 · 26/03/2018 16:17

Oh decafplease, sorry you're dealing with this worry. Have you called your clinic? Will they scan you again to see what's happening? I hope everything will be ok.

bjones, it's hard not to compare against previous cycles. Doesn't mean you won't have good results in this one though. On our cycle just cancelled, DP had only 3 growing at the start and then that became 8. But the time before it was 16. Didn't make much difference in the end, as we got 6 fertilised in one cycle and 7 in the other, and ended up with 2 usable blasts each time. So on the basis of that highly anecdotal experience, I would say that more follicles doesn't necessarily mean better result.

bjonesreborn · 26/03/2018 18:10

Thank you wanda for reassuring thoughts. I know there’s no rhyme or reason to this whole sodding process. But it is hard not to compare.

Decafplease · 26/03/2018 19:59

Thanks for the kind words wanda & bjones! My clinic will only scan me at 7w, as they say scans before that are inconclusive and will only make me more anxious. Fair enough i guess.
bjones as you well know, there are no givens with ivf, hope all the eggs you get are of great quality. X

Hobbes39 · 26/03/2018 21:23

Hi @Decafplease - hope you are ok - I know it's so scary seeing blood, but I also know it's common so it's very possible it's nothing to worry about, but that's easier said than done! I will keep everything crossed for you that the next couple of weeks pass quickly and the spotting stops. xx
@bjonesreborn - as others have said, and I know you know, it's quality not quantity. I know I'd feel exactly the same as you, and worry, but you never know and if only one works, it doesn't matter if is one of 8 or one of 3.... keep your chin up x
Hope everyone else is ok xx

Thanks hobbes. More brown stuff today, but hoping its due to pessaries irritating things down there. Trying to stay positive, and not think about it too much.
When do you start your next FET? Are you going for minimally medicated again?

bjonesreborn · 27/03/2018 16:02

thanks decaf and hobbes you're both right of course! I only need 1 to work!! What will be will be.
decaf poor you, fingers crossed it is those pessaries

Fabuluce · 27/03/2018 20:55

Hi Decaf, keeping everything crossed for you. It's most likely implantation spotting but that doesn't stop it being insanely scary for you. Will keep all my hopes for it to stay Brown. Brown is good.

Bjones as the others have said its quality over quantity. My successful ivf had the 'worst' result in terms of number of follies, eggs and embryos and yet ended up in my little miracle boy. My most 'successful' in terms of blastocysts made has resulted in 2 failed rounds so far. There is no rhyme or reason at all. Doesn't make it any easier for you right at this moment of course but that's my anecdotal take on it all. It seems to be, infuriatingly, what will be, will be. Gah.

Itsgoingtobeok · 07/04/2018 18:27

Hi guys,
Was looming through loads of different posts to see if anyone is going through IVF the same time as I am and camr across this. Im hoping everyone is well. Im on day 4 of Bemfola and will be starting Cetrocide 2mw not lookong forward to it. Want to know if anyone went through a full cycle of first IVF and got BFP??? Am i having too much expectations?
Me and hubby been trying for just over 4 years drs said for my age its rare for me to have low Amh levels my level was 9.4 anyone else had this level and had good results?
Sorry for all these questions....

Hobbes39 · 09/04/2018 18:51

Hi everyone, how are we all? How's things @Decafplease? Hope the spotting stopped?
Hi @Itsgoingtobeok - you might be better to join a cycle buddies thread as there will be other first-timers there who will be going through the same as you? My honest answer to your question is that it depends on your reasons for needing ivf and your age. From what I can tell if there is a known issue (like tube blockage) then your chances of success using IVF may be higher as it gets round that kind of issue. However - statistically, expecting it to work 1st time is being optimistic; for most people it doesn't. You may be one of the lucky ones though. If I were you I'd hope for it working first time, but expect it to not. Sorry if that's not what you want to hear, but as this is '3rd or more time lucky' (or not, as the case is for me!) I think you'd probably not expect any of us to be wildly optimistic.
As for me, my period is almost here so should be having scan and starting drugs for our last FET. One last one left, god I hope it's the ONE.... 🤞

Decafplease · 10/04/2018 09:43

Hi hobbes. 🤞 this is the one that sticks for you!
I’m currently waiting for a scan, had another bleed yesterday at work. Its been a real rollercoaster- lovely to have the little bean still on board, but this is the third bleed, so terrified might lose it anytime.
Wish you all luck! X

Hobbes39 · 10/04/2018 12:56

Hi @Decafplease - so sorry you've been having such a hard time with the bleeding - I hope all is still ok? Am thinking of you xx

OP posts:
Decafplease · 10/04/2018 14:02

Thanks hobbes. Scan was good, and we even heard the heartbeat! But no idea what’s causing the bleeds. Been told to try to rest as much as possible. And not worry - if thats even possible 😬
Will keep checking in here to see how you are doing. X

Hobbes39 · 10/04/2018 14:43

Wow, that's such good news - a heartbeat! How far along are you now? I hope the bleeding stops messing with your mind and everything settles down and you get to enjoy the pregnancy more soon - rest up xx

decaf how scary for you, but everything crossed your little bean continues to grow
hobbes great you are starting again soon, really hope this is your time.
afm I'm currently in the hell of 2ww. I'm 7dp2dt. I'd forgotten how hard it is, never sure if I'm imagining twinges and am on extensive knicker watch!! They only managed to retrieve 2 eggs and only 1 fertilised all of which I was quite sad about. But I'm hoping its the magic one. Hence they did a 2 day transfer as they said there is no evidence that keeping it out it can do any better than being back in. They would have only kept them going if there had been more than 2 and then I would have had to choose.
Also just wanted to say massive hats of to you ladies that have kept going, I think you are the strongest women I 'know'. This is only my second try and I'm not sure I can go through it all again (although I do remember saying that after my first fresh failed last year!) But I think the odds are against me given my age (41) and lack of eggs. What will be will be.
Hope everyone else is ok. take care

lulahbelle · 11/04/2018 16:50

Hi all, just wanted to pop in and say congrats to decaf on your BFP! So sorry you’ve been having the stress of the various bleeds and I hope things calm down and you can relax and enjoy your pregnancy - as much as is possible!

I have my fingers crossed for you bjones for this cycle and for you hobbes and wanda for your upcoming FETs - am so hoping this thread one day turns into a “3rd or more time lucky - BFPs all round” thread!

Hobbes39 · 11/04/2018 20:02

Hi @bjonesreborn and @lulahbelle & thanks for your good luck messages! @bjonesreborn - I'm keeping things crossed for you... as I'm 41 now too, I'm refusing to accept that's too old yet! 🤞
I had my scan this morning, not that they actually looked at much, but all ok to start, so started progynova, will scan again in 2 weeks, then transfer of our final remaining embryo (a 3AB supposedly) will be 5 days after that... so by the time it's May I hope to be PUPO.... this time I hope it's surely my time to not have the PU part happen...! X

Decafplease · 11/04/2018 22:19

Thanks hobbes, bjones lulah! I know i’ve been incredibly lucky to get this far. But because of the bleeds and my previous mmc, i don't quite believe it’s actually happened for us. The other day the sonographer kept referring to the embryo as ‘your baby’ and i almost freaked out that she’d jinxed us! I’m at 7w5d today. In my mind, if i get to 12 without incident then perhaps i’ll believe it.
bjones i hope in another 7 dats you join the bfp after ivf boards, and the rest of you hobbes and lulah soon after!
Oh, and i’m 41 too! Smile

1Wanda1 · 13/04/2018 23:07

Hi everyone. decafplease, I'm so glad you're doing ok, it must have been so stressful.

lulahbelle hi! How are things with you?

bjones, hope you're doing ok in the 2WW.

Hobbes, have you just started or are you waiting to start your next cycle?

I'm waiting for AF so we can start a FET cycle. Day 36 today and getting quite frustrated. Normally my cycles are 28 days or less. I've been having acupuncture, taking vitamins, and generally being very healthy. No idea what's happened with my period. I don't even feel like it's on its way!

Hobbes39 · 16/04/2018 21:02

Hi everyone
@bjonesreborn - how are you doing? Must be OTD for you soon? Hope you are ok & thinking of you!
@1Wanda1 - sorry to hear you are having to wait longer than usual for your period to arrive - it's always try way isn't it? You desperately don't want to get it usually, but now when you do.. it goes awol! I think mind did the same thing EVERY time pre-cycle so far... hang in there!
I am currently on day 5 of progynova, hopefully a week on wednesday I shall start the progesterone pessaries and we will then transfer my wee embryo 5 days later. Feel scared shitless to be honest as this really does feel like last chance saloon for me. I want this baby so much. Ug. Don't know what we will do if it doesn't work. Trying not to think too much about it all! X
