Fertility treatment- IUI

csds · 15/08/2017 19:47

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

Cobblestones did you trigger ovulation?

Snowy are you due a scan soon (CD10?)

I've read up on it so I know it comes down to being old wives tales as they say there's no proven scientific confirmation but I got a pineapple and chopped it into 5 slices, I've been having one a day, I don't think the core is that bad at all. I also drink 100% pure pomegranate juice as it's supposed to help the lining, but I drink that anyway so it's nothing new for me.

What is a little crazy, but hey I'd rather do it than not,is I've been making sure my feet are always warm. I usually wear flip flops but now I have my thermal slippers on and wear little trainer socks to bed. I read that warm feet help circulation and food circulation and keeping warm creates a good environment in the uterus ready for implementation. Like I say I know it may sound a little crazy, but it's hardly extreme lengths me putting some socks and slippers on.

Work is busy for me so I'm hoping my tww will fly. On that time I'm also traveling home to see my mom for a few days.

Did any of you get told your hubbys sperm analysis on he day of insemination? We got given the analysis sheet of paper but weren't told anything so we don't know if the sample was good or not

Pretty sure gonal was one of the injections I had to take. I had to do 2 injections daily (can't remember name of other one). That was from day 2 or 3 onwards and then they stopped once I did the trigger shot.

Csds

We weren't told anything about the sperm quality when we did inseminations, although I would've loved to have found that out.

NO TESTING YET LADIES!! X

Cobblestones · 18/09/2017 08:47

Hahahah thanks for that Toomany!! I think I needed it. Glad it's Monday and I'll be at work and away from any temptation to poas

Csds - no harm in doing everything you can to give yourself the best chance. I didn't know about keeping yourself warm. I'm forever cold...

we were verbally told of the sperm quality just before insemination something about the number and motility. My understanding is that it shouldn't be too different from when you had the sperm tested - provided you followed the usual process (2-3 day refresh etc)

Cobblestones · 18/09/2017 08:48

Csds - yes I did trigger ovulation the day before insemination

csds · 18/09/2017 18:03

I don't plan to test. I believe my blood test on 28th will indicate if I'm pregnant, I'm going to wait for that. I'm exhausted from peeing on sticks. Besides, I don't think I'd believe a positive pregnancy test.... with my luck I'd have a faulty stick!

When is your tww up cobblestones? Is it Friday? How exciting, it'll soon be here. Do any of your friends and family know?

OP posts:
Cobblestones · 18/09/2017 19:04

Poas fatigue - that's got to be a real thing...!

Yes immediate family know and a couple of friends. When I had my first mc I had kept it such a secret and realised it just made it really hard to deal with. I'd rather a few close people know... How about you? And do you have friends in the country you're in at the moment - Belgium was it?

csds · 19/09/2017 06:01

My mom knows and I have a close friend here in Belgium who I have confided in. My younger sister who I'm close with knows I've been trying and then she felt bad when she fell pregnant, so I've decided not to tell her. She knows I've been going to a hospital to enquire about fertility over here but that's it. I've not told her I've had iui as I wouldn't want her feeling bad for me if it fails. She should be enjoying her pregnancy rather than worrying about or feeling bad for me. I think once I know I'm pregnant I'll share it with her.

My boss knows and he is so supportive, always checks how every appointment went.

No clinic has a 100% success rate alice. Hth.

csds · 19/09/2017 19:19

Purplesdaisies is right, no clinic has 100% success. Couples all over the world get diagnosed with unexplained fertility. I'm having treatment now but there is no guarantee that I will conceive.

Ladies I tested this morning. BFN. It's ok.... I was mentally prepared for this.

Will start preparing for cycle 2...

Question - I should from tonight stop taking the cyclogest right? Even though AF is due Friday I tested with first response which is 99% accurate a few days earlier.. So pretty sure this cycle has failed.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 20/09/2017 09:12

Alice

Not sure there is a 'cure' for unexplained infertility!!! Confused

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 20/09/2017 09:14

Cobblestones

Oh I'm so sorry, has AF started yet ? (If yours are regular). Sad

Sending you lots of BiscuitFlowersCake

csds · 20/09/2017 10:08

Oh cobblestones I'm so sorry to hear your news. Sending you lots of hugs. Good attitude to have though. Onto the the next cycle. Keep positive thoughts and if nothing else you've had one run of the cycle so you know how it works and what to expect.

Again.... big hugs to you x

Obviously I don't have any medical knowledge whatsoever. But I would keep taking the cyclogest until AF appears. You never know. My friend was pregnant and whatever type of test she used she never got a positive until 8 weeks along.

Just think of it as one step nearer and well done you, for keeping so positive. Although it's ok to have a good long cry as well!

As csds says you know what to expect now and just look forward to the next cycle.

Xxxxxx

Cobblestones · 20/09/2017 21:33

Thank you both. Honestly I'm ok... I think I feel more numb than sad. But thank you for all the kind words of support :)

Hmmm I wasn't going to use cyclogest tonight but maybe I should. Though I was wondering if I keep taking it will I get a period?.... I should probably call the nurse tomorrow.

csds · 21/09/2017 19:37

Cobblestones did you speak to the nurse? What did they advise?

OP posts:
Cobblestones · 21/09/2017 20:46

I didn't end up calling. I googled and most said that you normally get your period 2-3 days after stopping cyclogest and some get it despite on it. I'll be on 14 dpo tomorrow so I'll take the test and if it's negative (which I'm pretty sure it'll be) I'll then stop cyclogest from tomorrow night.

How are you feeling csds? When is day 21 for you?

csds · 22/09/2017 07:24

Cobblestones I didn't ov until cd16 so I've got to wait until cd30 for my tww to be over but for me it's fitted with my normal cycle.

I would be expecting AF Friday/Sat. I have a blood test on Thursday which is exactly 14dpo so I believe they will be able to tell me if I'm pregnant that afternoon. I'm not going to test. It's either hospital confirmation or AF confirmation for me.

I've been feeling a little weird but I'm not reading to much into it. If anything I'm convincing myself I'm not. Im 8dpo today and I had to get up 3 times in the night for a wee, but instant two hot waters before bed so it could simply be that. I'm a bit windy 😳. Could be down to something I ate. I feel bloated and I get random twinges which feel a bit like ov twinges ( in the past only had them about twice when on Angus Castus) but I'm thinking it could just be because if the drugs I've recently taken. The only other thing is that I feel like AF is about to hit any moment. Tummy feels a bit crampy but again I'm putting it down to my bodies reaction with the drugs.,

I've googled and they seem promising symptoms but that said they could also be a result of too much water, bad food & drugs.

Have you been feeling anything? You're not out until AF arrives, I still have everything crossed for you, yesterday I'd read that a lot of ladies didn't get a positive prep test until about a week after AF was due.

If AF does show what do you do? How do you start your next cycle? For me I'm guessing I call the hospital on CD1 again to be told when to go for a scan and blood test x

OP posts:
Cobblestones · 22/09/2017 09:29

Those are positive symptoms csds! Good not to raise hopes too much but still important to be positive which you are being. Fingers and toes crossed for you Smile btw the light cramping similar to period pain in early pregnancy is uterus stretching in preparation for the embryo. In both my previous pregnancies I felt that much before AF was due which is how I was nearly sure that I was pregnant before it showed up. Hope this is true for you!!

I have to collect the medication (letrozole) and start that from cd 2. Will call them to arrange a scan and take it from there.

csds · 22/09/2017 13:27

There's a big part of me that thinks "am I just noticing more because now I've had treatment",I think... "are they feelings that I usually have but haven't really noticed before in the past".

I'm back in the uk, in Brum visiting my folks at the mo. Nice to have a change from the norm.

Keep us posted cobblestones, I really hope AF doesn't show ! X

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 22/09/2017 14:42

Good luck, ladies. My first symptom was really prominent veins on my boobs, looked like the motorway network!

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 23/09/2017 08:09

Cobblestones

Have you stopped taking the cyclogest now? Hope you're feeling OK.

Csds

They sound promising symptoms. I had the little stabbing cramps pains at about 6 weeks pregnant with my IUI baby. It was about every 30 seconds or so and went on for about 24 hours. I was terrified something was wrong but I was fine. I also felt like AF was about to start.

In my second pregnancy I also had a metallic taste in my mouth early on. also as soon as I got pregnant 2nd time I couldn't stand anything made from pork - sausages, bacon, pulled pork, gammon etc. I've never come across anyone else with this, but am convinced it's hormonal. To me it smelt like all pork is off, can't stand the smell. This only subsided when I stopped breastfeeding a few weeks ago! Weird!

I had the blood test at the hospital too. The few hours you have to wait to get the results seems like forever! And then I was ringing up for ages and couldn't get through. I was just sitting there hitting redial for what seemed like forever'

Supermoon

I've heard about breast tenderness as a symptom. But not the veins! That's a new one!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend Smile

Cobblestones · 23/09/2017 13:44

The wicked witch has shown up. I'm just so glad I tested as I was prepared for this. If it had arrived without my knowing I wasn't pregnant I would have been hit harder I think. I'm feeling a bit low today. Like I want to scream. Hope it blows over soon. Usually pms isn't too bad for me. I don't feel the lows that much...

csds · 23/09/2017 14:49

Oh man!! Sorry to hear this, I had still hoped you'd get that BFP. Love your attitude though.

Take today to have a little moment, scream... so it! Have a bit of self pity, you have the right to be sad and even have that cry if you need it. Then tomorrow you give yourself a talking to and prepare yourself for your next cycle. You know what to expect now. Hubby can be more prepared to with his little men.

We're all here for each other, I'll be your pick-me-up just like you might need to be mine!

Onwards and upwards but today..... scream, shout, cry and eat chocolate if it comforts s you xx
