Fertility treatment- IUI

csds · 15/08/2017 19:47

Hi, has anyone had IUI fertility treatment? We've been TTC for 3 years now. Had all the tests. We have a consultation tomorrow at the hospital about moving forward with treatment and we've been given an indication that IUI may be the best option to try first before IVF.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone out there who has been through this or is going through this.

Thanks

I'm on CD14 today, I'm really hoping that they have grown to the required size by tomorrow so that I can be told to trigger.

No, they have not commented on my lining, will have to ask tomorrow.

How long have you got left until you test (pee on a stick) or will you be having a blood test?

*Starlight

Wow that's really good that it worked with no drugs, and one blocked tube. Have I understood your post correctly?*

Yep.. I am luck however I did learn you don't necessarily ovulate on the opposite side each month so for 4 months could ovulate on the side of the blocked tube so had no chance of pregnancy. So knowing which side I was ovulating was helpful.

Good luck for tomorrow!

Cobblestones · 12/09/2017 21:15

Good luck csds!

It'll be a week post ov this Friday so AF should be due next Friday. Which means the real challenge of not testing early will start early next week Hmm

csds · 13/09/2017 08:37

Thanks all.
So this morning I'm told I've got one dominant egg now 21mm, got another one which is middle range (was 15mm on Monday so I'm thinking it may be 17-18?)

Just need to wait for my call again but the dr said it all looks good.

I can only imagine how hard it must be cobblestones but try and resist the temptation to to test to early

I've done 2 IUI cycles, but there was no luck. During the procedure were used different medications like clomid or injections. Clinic is really perfect, too much depends on a Doctor and clinic. I decided that IVF is too risky, you know: a big chance of miscarriage, multiply birth, and was agree with the doctor, that it's more appropriate to choose IUI first. It was totally successful for me, so this is the Clinic, well known in Germany ovu.com/germany/langenhagen/fertility-clinic/fertility-clinic-langenhagen%E2%80%93wolfsburg-mvz-%E2%80%93-fertility-clinic-langenhagen

That all sounds good. What size are the follicles meant to be before they trigger? When do you have to go back?

csds · 13/09/2017 16:37

I had a call at 2pm telling me to trigger at 4pm so I was glad I had my stuff with me at work.

As pathetic as it is, I'm feeling proud of myself for doing my injection myself.

We have to go to the hospital for 10am tomorrow for hubby to do his bit, then back at 12 for insemination. Feeling really excited and a little in shock.

Yey! So exciting! Let us know how you get on.

Cobblestones · 14/09/2017 00:17

Excellent! All the best csds! I hope it goes smoothly for you! And well done on managing alone with the injection!

Cobblestones · 14/09/2017 14:07

Csds - how did it go today?

snowy1982 · 14/09/2017 14:40

Hi everyone, hope you don't mind if I join in?

So a bit about me, I am 35, have no children, TTC for 3 years. Have had all the tests going and everything is in perfect working order for me and DH so we were referred for treatment. Last summer after getting fed up waiting on NHS referral, I went private and had 3 rounds of IUI, none of which worked. Finally got my NHS consultation this January at my local hospital (BTW I live in northern ireland so guidelines are different here and a very limited number of hospitals do fertility treatment on NHS). Consultant (who happened to be same doc I saw at the private clinic) referred me straight to the main fertility clinic in NI to see about going on IVF list (only 1 hospital here does it) so had that appointment in May where they put me straight onto the wait list - which is currently running at 9-11 months. In the meantime the local hospital offered me 6 rounds of IUI which i could do while waiting on IVF. So finally started back to IUI this cycle, i am on CD6 and have been taking gonal f (stim injection) since CD4.

Hi snowy

Fingers crossed! Just because it didn't work before doesn't mean it won't this time! And if you have to wait for IVF there's nothing to lose!

I have a 3 year old (conceived after 4 years TTC and 3rd IUI attempt) and 1 year old conceived naturally after 12 months trying. Like you unexplained first time around.

Being on this thread what has surprised me has been the difference in funding and waiting times. Here in South Yorkshire once referred there was only a few weeks wait to start IUI. If that failed then it was straight to IVF with no waiting. Of course it may be different now as that was 4 years ago.

Good luck! X

snowy1982 · 14/09/2017 16:29

I had to wait from Dec 15 to Jan 17 for referral from GP to consultant, then Jan to May for referral for IVF, also all across NI you only get 1 round of IVF on NHS, although they offer 6 IUI as well. It really is a bit of o postcode lottery. I have enough savings for 1 private IVF but keeping that as my last resort.

Glad to hear your an IUI success story and that you conceived naturally as well, hearing things like that really help keep me going

csds · 14/09/2017 16:30

All went well today, insemination was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I have to go back for blood tests on 20th and 28th to have progesterone levels checked

Gosh snowy, what a journey you've had, NHS is so slow isn't it, I was waiting a year (Suffolk) before having to move which has resulted in us having to pay privately. Makes sense to do the iui whilst waiting for IVF though.

Csds

Glad everything went well and hope you're relaxing at home now.

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 14/09/2017 17:14

We ttc for 3 years and then paid privately for IUI (too impatient to wait longer and were lucky enough to be able to fund out ourselves). Worked first time and the fantastic results (eek - twins😁) sit their GCSEs next year. Best £500 We ever spent!

Good luck csds and cobblestones - really hope you both strike gold!

Cobblestones · 14/09/2017 17:37

Thanks supermoon - great to hear another positive story!

Welcome snowy - good to see you've got options while you're on the wait for IVF..

Csds - great stuff! Seems thorough they've called your back for bloods. Glad I have a partner in the 2ww phase Smile

csds · 15/09/2017 11:13

It's great to hear these stories. The thought of twins does scare me, but like many things in life, I vied you just deal with it. I have twins on both my mothers and fathers side😳.

Yes cobblestones it's nice to have someone so close in cycle. I'm feeling a little bloated though but otherwise all is good.

Hubby was super excited yesterday after insemination which was nice to see. I've told him not to get his hope up though. In a way to expect to be doing this again next month and anything else is a massive bonus.

That said, we are both chuffed to have done one cycle, we are finally released to be having treatment after so many years of what only feels like fighting the system

OP posts:
Cobblestones · 16/09/2017 14:25

So true csds I couldn't have said it better myself. After years of thinking about it, doing tests and scans and consultation it's great to be getting on and giving ourselves some hope of an outcome!

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 16/09/2017 15:23

I used to try and think that every little step (no matter how upsetting) is one step nearer xx

csds · 17/09/2017 09:41

Exactly Toomany!

Cobblestones, how have you got on with the cyclogest that you had to take?

OP posts:
Cobblestones · 17/09/2017 10:37

It was first annoying having to insert every night but I've gotten the hang of it now. It's just super messy! Always some residue in the morning... But thank god no side effects minus a bit of bloating during the day.

I am 6 days away from AF being due... Was SOOO tempted to take a first response test this morning but didn't... May be I'll allow myself to do that mid week..

How are you feeling csds?

Cobblestones · 17/09/2017 10:41

Snowy - how are you doing? How does it work with the gonal injection? Are you on any other meds? And when is your scan due?
