I know! My natural inclination is to beat myself up for everything though Confused I know I should be pleased with 6!

One thing that is worrying me though is they said that of 12 mature, 2 were poor quality. I'm not sure why this would be or if it's normal? Anyone any ideas?

6 is great icsi I'm not sure about the poor quality but from my reading recently I think it's fairly normal. Good luck for Monday!

We've got 8 fertilised so happy with that. I've got to wait for a call on Monday but she said et is likely to be Wednesday. Hoping they survive that long.

jessie have you heard anything yet?

Some good numbers here today!
Fwiw I had 11eggs collected last time, 1 immature, 7 fertilised yet only 2 still going by day 2 so it just goes to show there is no way of telling what will happen from numbers alone. I was sure we'd have some to freeze but obviously want meant to be that time.
Good luck over the next few days ladies.

Hello all! I would also love to join the thread :)

IVF is a tough journey and the fact that we have these communities open to us to support each other is great!

I agree that a diet should be balanced during and even before treatment, especially with how stressful things can be! I would hate to restrict myself and miss out on some much needed nutrients!
My issue is that I have PCOS and during IVF I take metformin, this plays havoc with digestion and a low car diet must be followed, which is really hard when you just feel sick all of the time! who wants protein when you are about to puke? sigh

A little history of my journey so far

My Fresh cycle started in May this year and was cancelled after collection due to OHSS.

I am now finally about to start preparing for my FET and we plan to start injections on the 1st of October.

I am at St Mary's in Manchester, and the long wait is apparently standard protocol- but it has been a hard wait! I am also very nervous about the way my embryos have been frozen at pronuclear stage, as only 2 can be thawed at a time and we can't see which are good quality and which aren't.
(This means I could end up having multiple FET's which could end up spanning well over 12 months) - I really couldn't emotionally do that! :(

3 of the 4 fertilised. Transfer booked for Monday morning, no mention of waiting any longer. Embryologist said that in her experience 90% of the ones that fertilise will make it to transferable stage but that doesn't sound right going by dotties story. We don't get any more updates until transfer, they'll advise on the quality then. A good result I suppose since 3 is max I could have put back in anyway, Kaur means will prob have to do fresh again if this doesn't work. icsi, flower good results for you too. How do you feel today? I had no pain yesterday but was awoken at 5am today with general aching in the whole stomach area. Feels like the kind of muscle pain you get after doing exercise when you haven't done any in ages, and like my ovaries are big and heavy inside. Walking and sudden movements a bit uncomfortable. Paracetamol helps but doesn't take it away altogether. Not sure whether it's cause for concern? No problems weeing and don't have any of the empties they tell you to watch out for.

Hi Jessie congrats on fab fertilisation rates! I am also a bit sore-similar to what you describe really, I feel quite bruised. It's quite painful to sit down too Blush

That's great jessie I'm the same I'm fine sitting down but moving about is a bit painful and feel bloated. So will they put all three back in then if they are all ok? My clinic will only transfer one which I guess is why they want to wait til wed if they can

lildottie · 05/09/2015 21:17

Jessie i was convinced there was something wrong with me after ec. I felt really bruised and like my ovaries were watermelons. I was so concerned I called the clinic, and they humoured me - did a blood test and I was fine. They even got me in front of consultant who told me to chill out and that I was bound to feel tender after what had been done. Try not to worry, chances are you are absolutely fine and what you are feeling is normal.

JessieMcJessie · 05/09/2015 22:21

purplemeggie we didn't pay up front for icsi as DH's last sample at this clinic was OK. But since he had had bad ones before I had asked what would happen if his sample on the day was bad and they said they'd do icsi... So presumably we'd have had a call delivering the bad news and asking for our credit card number!

Well done everyone on your ec numbers/fertilisation rates it all sounds very positive.

When I had ec in April I got 16 eggs but only 6 fertilised and then only 3 were good enough to freeze. I was disappointed but I'd so many follicles and some were huge (biggest was over 30mm if I remember correctly) so I think a good few were 'overcooked'

Hopefully I will transfer my day 3 embryo in a few weeks if blood results come back ok . I'm so excited it seems to have been going on forever and it's frustrating ! I just want to experience a 2ww !

Well I just had a call from the embryologist to say we are going to day 5 on Wednesday. Of the 6 fertilised, we currently have 3 top grade 7 cell embryos, a 'good' 8 cell and the 2 remaining are 5 cell and not quite developing as they should. I think this is a good thing, but it does make me a bit nervous waiting the extra few days. However, I don't think they'd be delaying if they thought there was a chance that it would all go wrong and we'd end up with nothing left to put back on Wednesday. I also know that logically if the embryos die in the petri dish, they wouldn't make it in the womb either.

So all in all, feeling positive, but a little off-kilter due to all the changes and up-down emotions: Nervous for retrieval (dreams about no eggs); Yay! 15 eggs; Oh Shit, only 6 fertilised; Nervous/sicky for transfer; Panic when see hospital phoning that all embryos have died; Hooray, we have 3 top graders....and now waiting and trying not to overthink (clearly not working!!!)

Anyone else like this? I feel like I am going a bit loopy!

Good luck today Jessie

Let us know if you are going for a 3 or 5 day transfer flower

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 07/09/2015 10:19

Oh, and waiting, it must be so annoying to be delayed - was that due to OHSS? Did you have it particularly bad? I have really bad stomach cramps/wind/diarrhea (sp?) over the weekend and thought it was due to progesterone pessaries but it seems to be going now, even though I am continuing with the pessaries, so think I may have had a very mild episode of OHSS...either that or I ate something dodgy, or am just getting used to the pessaries!

Icsi - hooray for good results and yes, feeling like that is normal - it's a complete roller-coaster, isn't it? And being full of hormones really doesn't help!

Flower - yes, CRGW in South Wales. So were they good for you? They seemed very nice, but just a bit of an administrative disaster! I wondered if I wasn't really a priority as I wasn't having full treatment there.

Jessie - it's pretty standard to go for an earlier transfer if you're going to transfer all your available embryos. The thinking is that your body is the best incubator available, so if you're going to transfer 3 and you've got 3 fertilised, you might as well put them all back in on day 2 - the only reason to wait is to identify front runners if you've got "spares". This happened to me with my second own egg cycle. Good luck for the transfer and welcome to the crazy mindfuck that is the 2WW!

I had my endometrial thickness scan today and all is fine for transfer next week sometime. Depending on the donor's progress, I'm expecting them to collect her eggs on Wednesday or Thursday.

Floweroct2 · 07/09/2015 12:22

That's good news icsi I have gone through the same thought process headspin!!! So all 8 are progressing as they'd expect for this stage so we're going on to 5 day transfer on Wednesday. They didn't give any other details so don't know how good they are so just more waiting until wed!
purple I found crgw quite good and I've been there a few times for various different things but yes sometimes the admin side is a bit slow and I've had to chase. Hope all goes well with the donor!

Feeling slightly jealous of all the embryo and transfer talk. Roll on 21st! Doesn't help I've realised my first scan is Wednesday not tomorrow goes to sulk

I have pcos and very early into stimms my oestrogen level was high. I was bloated after a few days and very uncomfortable and had so many follicles the clinic said they wouldn't risk an hcg trigger or transfer that cycle.

I had buserilin trigger instead, additional days of cetrotide to shut things down and five days of blood thinning injections and they froze all the embryos. Took a while for me to feel better again and then the TSH levels have been too high so have had to wait longer than I anticipated for fet

Hi all.

Transfer this morning went pretty smoothly. Embryologist began by telling me that 2 of the 3 that had fertilised were doing very well indeed (the relief, was so scared they'd all have given up!), but the third was about 36 hours behind where it should be and looked like it was going to arrest. However she recommended putting it back in anyway, was very clear that it would not do any harm to the 2 good ones.

So in the three of them went. No pain but my GOD was I desperate for a wee.

It was the chief consultant of the clinic (ie the one they trot out on all the private patient promo material) who did the transfer. I was pleased about that because I had read only yesterday that a lot can ride on the physician's skill when they do that bit, in that they need to be as gentle as possible with the womb. I'm sure the others are also good but I was glad my et fell on his shift.

Embryologist was also very nice and said with a huge smile that the 2 embryos were "really really good", as if she didn't often see ones that good. I know it's all play acting but it did work for me. They were graded at "just below" 4 where 4 is the best. A- then?

Waiting game now. The aftercare leaflet is crystal clear that "there is nothing that you can do now that will affect the outcome". I'm in work today but it's not a busy day so should be fine. Will try to remember to walk around a lot to keep the blood flowing. I'm generally going to do a fair amount of walking over the next 2 weeks I think. Have got a cold coming on though, hope that doesn't cause any issues.

Bets of luck for the day 5 ladies icsi and flower. icsi I too am suffering from spectacular wind - must have something to do with the IVF of we both have it but I can't get my head round how messing about with the reproductive system creates excess gas in the digestive system!

dottie sorry you are feeling so impatient, I'm not surprised. You too bessie. Can you distract yourself in some way? purple is it your first time with donor eggs?

OTD 20th Sept. DH will be away that weekend.

I'll keep an eye on everyone's progress. best of luck to everyone I haven't mentioned in person!
