Wooo, Jessie how exciting! Great news that you have two really good quality embies on board too, my fingers are crossed for you! Is this your first round? I can't believe they put three back - my clinic is very very stern about their SET policy, and have said that if you have any top quality embryos there is no chance they will transfer more than 1.

JessieMcJessie · 07/09/2015 16:38

I'm 42 icsi so the HFEA guidelines are absolutely fine about cramming 3 in there Smile.

Also they are day 3 embryos not blastocysts so the "top quality" doesn't mean much really - I think that a lot fall by the wayside at the transition to blast. Whereas if they are already blasts before they go in then they have proved their sticking power a bit, are ready to implant and the known chance of successful pregnancy is higher. In that circumstance they might push SET.

JessieMcJessie · 07/09/2015 16:40

Sorry, yes it is my first round. Had IUI in June but then discovered I had a blocked tube so doubt any sperm met egg that time. We know it's happened once before but that was a chemical so I have failed at the implantation stage before. Let's hope these 2 eggs are better quality.

lildottie · 07/09/2015 16:40

Ooh Jesse I'm so chuffed for you. Fx for a speedy tww! Will you test early or late if dh away? I tested daily from trigger before and got my bfp at 8dp2dt on an ic hpt And a strong line on an ic opk which persuaded me to do a frer which was crystal clear

JessieMcJessie · 07/09/2015 16:43

ha ha dottie right now I am saying I won't test early but ask me again in a week!

JessieMcJessie · 07/09/2015 16:47

But absolutely no chance I'll be waiting for DH to get back before I test on OTD! He's back that evening though, and I can tell him on the phone. He'll have a monstrous hangover after a college reunion though so hope not bad news as his train jourmey will be miserable enough as it is.

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 07/09/2015 17:05

Wow Jessie this is so exciting...imagine if they all stick Shock haha

There is no 'pushing' for SET at my clinic, that's what they do, take it or leave it basically. Unless you have poor quality embryos/have already had multiple rounds. I am ok with it as am 28, and we have two funded rounds on the NHS (yes I do realize, how incredibly lucky that makes us), but not sure I would be if I was self -funding/older. I think if we get to the point of self funding (which is likely I suppose as I think it takes on average 2.5 rounds to get success), we might go elsewhere....but that is a while away so for the present, we'll see what happens. I do wonder if they are very black and white at the start to set expectations, but then might be more flexible if we didn't get to blasto/had lower quality embryos...

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 07/09/2015 17:06

I've already been googling when I can test too, and not even had transfer yet...hope I've not jinxed myself

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 07/09/2015 23:52

I just read about all your wind problems ladies - I remember this really well from my fresh cycle! Except I was in so much pain I couldn't actually fart. Oh it was hell, but went away after a few days. Peppermint tea really helps!

icsy I'm 28 too - have you ever nearly punched someone for saying "oh but you're so young!"? Because I have Grin

I have to say I am really glad we had SET. As far back as I could trace my family history, every single one of us has miscarried her first pregnancy. I know there is no medical evidence that it's genetic, but it does make you think. If I'd had both my embies put back, I could well have miscarried both, and been left with none. Also, FET was just so much more relaxed and natural feeling, which I am sure has contributed to the success so far. Having said that, if this embryo would have always been sticky, I'd be having a baby in a few weeks, so who knows what the right answer is?!

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 07/09/2015 23:54

(Oh and I got a +ve 7dp5dt with a frer test)

Elbbob · 08/09/2015 09:37

I am incredibly relieved to have received a call from the embryologist saying the single egg they collected has fertilised and they want to transfer tomorrow.
I was devastated when they told me at my last scan there was only one good sized follicle - 2 others stopped growing - so I know I am lucky to have got this far.
What do people think about having ET 2 days after EC? From what I have read it is usually 3-5 days so it seems quite soon. Has anyone else experienced this?

Elbbob · 08/09/2015 09:39

And can Toes or anyone explain what 7dp5dt means? Thanks

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 08/09/2015 09:45

toes yes that is bloody annoying. There's a misconception that fertility issues are age related, but if you've got blocked tubes or no sperm, it makes no difference if you're 28 or 48- you could be the virgin Mary and it still wouldn't bloody work! I also find that everyone assumes the issue with me and it feels a little bit sexist, like somehow I am responsible for not providing DH with babies, and that annoys me as well, and then if people find out it is actually MF, they seem more sympathetic Angry

elbob congrats on your embie. The only benefit to waiting to transfer I believe is for the embryologist to observe fit a longer period and better determine the higher quality embryo... If you only have one to put back it might as well go back now. Good luck Flowers

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 08/09/2015 09:46

7dp5dt= 7 days post 5 day transfer. So if yours goes back in today, you'll be 1dp2dt tomorrow

Floweroct2 · 08/09/2015 09:46

Elb that's great news! From what I know generally 3 or 5 day transfers are done to try and select the best embryo so with one you know that that's the one going to be put back in and it is better for it to be in its natural environment than in the lab so nothing to worry about there.

7dp5dt means 7 days past a 5day transfer just to work out how far along you are rather than dpo days past ovulation when ttc naturally. Hope the transfer goes well!

Floweroct2 · 08/09/2015 09:47

Sorry xpost as icsi said!

Elbbob · 08/09/2015 09:56

Thank you icsi and Flower for the reassurance and the explanation - I hadn't thought about the transfer day like that but of course that makes total sense.

Would someone mind explaining what a frer test is? I'll stop with the questions after that!

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 08/09/2015 10:27

Carry on with the Qs, that's the point of the forum- to support one another.

FRER is first response early result, its a home pregnancy test (HPT) with a high sensitivity that many people like to use:

Floweroct2 · 08/09/2015 10:31

Just had the call to say I need to go in for et at 11.45 tomorrow. icsi do you know what time you're having yours?

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 08/09/2015 10:37

Mine is at 2pm tomorrow. I don't get an update today Sad...hope my embies are ok!

Did they give you any other info? Size/grading etc? How exciting!

Floweroct2 · 08/09/2015 10:39

No I didn't get any info on embies it was admin in the time to come in as they couldn't tell me yesterday. Fingers crossed there's still some going strong!

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 08/09/2015 10:43

I am sure you'll be fine flower, I know it sounds horrible, but if they thought there was an issue and they weren't going to make it, I reckon they'd call you in early to put one back as they wouldn't want to mess up their clinic stats by not getting you to transfer

Elbbob · 08/09/2015 11:00

Thanks icsi. Does anyone have any advice about what to do to prepare for ET? Is there any advice about what to eat / do etc to encourage a successful transfer?
I feel ridiculously excited right now, more than I ever have and I think it is because I have never knowingly had a fertilised egg before! I know it sounds stupid because it is actually such a tiny step. I hadn't realised how despondent I was feeling about the whole experience until I got that good news. I am so glad I booked this week off work.

IcsiWitsyBabyPlsGetUpMySpout · 08/09/2015 11:07

It's hard to say elbob, this is my first cycle and I have done a lot of reading about ET and how to aid implantation. There is very little research and a lot of opinion. For what it's worth I am going to take some basic sensible steps that are common sense/generally agreed and ignore the rest: eat well, get enough sleep, no heavy exercise, no alcohol, try to relax (impossible!)

ToesAndFingersCrossed · 08/09/2015 12:44

elbbob I don't think there's anything we can do to aid implantation, other than lie back and relax. I have read that a lot of it is down to the technique of the doctor who does the transfer. When we had ours, they put the catheter in first without the embryo in it, and make sure it's exactly right. Then the embryologist brought through the catheter with our embryo in it and they just popped it right in and it was all over.

The worst bit for me at least is that you have to have a full bladder and they need to press down pretty hard on your abdomen with the scanner to get a good view of what's going on.

Also if you find getting a sear test excruciating, pop a couple paracetamol an hour before, it really helps!

And after it's done, it's a very good excuse to relax, put you feet up and have your partner bring you endless cups of tea! I've heard people say their doctors have suggested they have a glass of wine the evening after transfer to relax - it won't harm the baby as it won't have implanted yet, but will chill you right out. Personally I haven't. One of the nurses at my clinic said to us "there is literally nothing you can to to influence the outcome, but if the test comes back negative, you're going to worry for the rest of your life that it's all because you had a glass of fizz at that wedding, or ran for the bus that day, or went skydiving....!"
