Any on looking to start ivf/icsi in the new year?

Just wondering if anyone would like to keep me company and share the ivf/icsi journey. DH and I are both 35 years old and have been trying to conceive our first child for 10months. DH has lowish sperm motility and I have a low amh (7.24). We haven't had any luck so far and so the next step will be ivf with icsi in the new year. We are thinking of starting end of feb or march. Would be great to share the journey with others in similar situations and hopefully make some friends along the way Smile

Good luck today kaz, here's to lots of lovely little eggs!

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 10/07/2015 09:15

Good luck, Kaz, let us know how you get on!

Does anyone remember receiving any advice about taking the progesterone suppositories ? I was only to take them frontways. I am overseas and don't understand the patient information leaflet as it is not in English and my language abilities suck. Am I supposed to lie down afterwards? Or do I just shove them up there and leave them to it?

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 10/07/2015 10:32

me again!
Just heard all 5 of the eggs collected were mature but only 3 were fertilised. Doesn't sound like much of a party to me, but with a chaperoned party (ICSI) I don't understand why they don't get higher fertilisation rates. Anyway...
They want to do a 2 day transfer i.e. tomorrow. Which didn't sound good to me as I thought day 5 was better and they'd said if there were more than 2 embryos they would wait until Monday (i.e. 4 day transfer, randomly). But then again, people do have success with day 2 transfers so I have to just cross my fingers.
Fingers crossed also that the third one keeps going to day 5 so it can be frozen, in case this go doesn't work out.

BadgerFace · 10/07/2015 10:59

Shove it up and leave it Miffy really! Although if you can stay still for 15 mins or so then it helps to stop the seepage I found. And pantyliners to stop the wax ruining your pants...

3/5 is a good fertilisation rate - I think that two thirds is the average. I think that some eggs just aren't "right" (not a very medical term I know!) for fertilisation even with ICSI.

There are lots of stories of day 2 transfer live births so don't worry about not going to day 5 blastocyst. It is much better to have a day 2 transfer then trying to go to day 5 and risking none of them making it. You might find that if all of them are looking strong tomorrow then they delay until day 3. Do you know if they are putting in one or two? Fingers crossed for a frozen one or two.

Hey Persipan - sorry you're out for this round. Well done on being so philosophical; I'm glad the clinic have constructive suggestions. Hope the Danes send you some prime gametes!

Good luck today Kaz - hope you enjoy the sedation as much as I did. That stuff is like an off-switch!

Miffy - I know three sounds slim but the numbers do sound about right from what my consultant said. Even with ICSI, all that complicated business of swapping spools of DNA sometimes just doesn't happen.

Even with excellent embryos, waiting til day 5 in a lab is more of a risk (the payoff, as Badger says, is that you get more data.) With three it's probably worth having two in you (the best possible place) rather than in in incubator and gambling a little with #3 rather than gambling with them all.

"It only takes one" (is anyone ever reassured by that?) Seriously, though: I was gutted we only ended up with two, and here I am, throwing up my breakfast..!

Hang in there. It's a worrying time and the numbers are daunting but it's far from hopeless! Big hugs.

Hi everyone....thanks for yr kind wishes. Im home resting & yeah had a great sleep...love that stuff!!!. They took 10 eggs so big improvement on last time & lets hope for a decent result over nite. Hope yr all ok....while i was resting in the clinic the fire alarm went off so i had to vacate the premises in the beauty of their dressing gown & stand on pavement whilst multi tasking at inner thigh gripping to the fan*y pad inbetween my legs!!!! & my hubbys car...& only his just happened to have a covering of seagull shit on it while we'd been in there....shit for luck i say!!! Grin Grin .

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 11/07/2015 09:39

well 2 of the 3 didn't last the night. But apparently the 3rd one looks very good and is back in me now.
Oof.
Kazcal, sounds like quite a bit of drama for you there! Who needs it?!

kazcal · 11/07/2015 10:21

Miffy its all such a drama is'nt it!!, good luck with the 1 gone back in. Out of my 10 i had 5 fertilised they gonna call me again Mon but looking at wed to transfer??!!...is that good or bad? Dont know how to feel really, gonna have a wine today take my mind off it or try to!! Smile

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 11/07/2015 10:37

Five - Wow! I think Wednesday sounds good - they'll be blasts by then I think.
Enjoy the wine!

BadgerFace · 11/07/2015 11:21

Ah, yes, I remember the between collection and transfer glass of wine I had on DD's cycle, it was bliss! (And a very expensive Chablis I made DH buy as I was only having the one!). Enjoy kaz, hopefully the last one for a few months... Good to hear 5 have fertilised. Will you be putting one or two back in do you know?

Good to hear your little bunny is on board Miffy and hopefully burrowing in for the long hall.

Everything's crossed for you ladies.

When's your 6 week scan warrior? This week or not quite yet?

warriorbot · 11/07/2015 13:07

Hello all - good luck to Miffy's embryo on board and Kaz's embryos in the lab!

My scan is on Monday. Haven't pissed on a stick of any description in over a week, but I was violently sick last night. Hope that means good things Grin.

We finally exchanged contracts last Wednesday. We move this Thursday. Shock Currently changing all the addresses we can and setting aside things we need on moving day (medication, medication, medication!) We've been super indulgent and are getting the movers to pack us too!

How's everyone else doing?

warriorbot · 14/07/2015 18:36

Hey, Kaz - hope you got great news today.

loopylou1984 · 14/07/2015 19:37

Hi ladies, I'm really sorry to gate crash your thread, but I'm after a bit of advice.

I'm on my first round of IVF, 1 day post egg collection. Yesterday I was very uncomfortable, but it's eased off today. I am now feeling an almost constant nausea which I'm beginning to think is the progesterone pessaries... Has anyone experienced this? And is there anything I can do about it? Xx

warriorbot · 14/07/2015 21:10

Oh my gosh, yes, the progesterone always makes me nauseated for the first few days. I find ginger or peppermint tea help me. It always subsided for me as I got used to the levels.

Keep well hydrated (I'm sure you are!) And eating protein-rich goods is supposed to help with the recovery from EC. Good luck with the fertilisation!

warriorbot · 14/07/2015 21:11

(No other abdominal pains, shortness of breath, anything like that, I hope?)

loopylou1984 · 14/07/2015 21:17

Thanks Warrior, no nothing else, just the nausea and a little discomfort.

I have been doing very well with the drinking, but admittedly could have done better today, will step it up again. I struggle with the protein thing, but I am trying.

Thank you for getting back to me :)

BadgerFace · 14/07/2015 21:19

Congrats on your EC sammy, I hope the nausea passes soon and good luck with fertilisation and implantation.,

loopylou1984 · 14/07/2015 21:36

Thanks badger. Had 18 collected, of which 6 were immature, 2 fertilised abnormally and 2 failed to fertilise leaving 8 which fertilised. Just a waiting game now.

Meant to be going back to work tomorrow, not really sure if I should. Xx

kazcal · 14/07/2015 22:31

Hi ladies!!, warribot i go in tom (wed) for my egg transfer so thats day 5!.. The embryologist said all 5 were doing really well so fingers crossed. Sammylou1 hope u start to feel a little better, i had more pain this time round after EC took a couple more days to ease off, & i was really bloated, constipated & uncomfortable....shuvving pesseries up ya back end does'nt help Grin Grin Im feeling better now tho & excited about tom, its 2nd time round for me. This site is good nice to have us ladies in same boat for advice & reassurance. Thanks all Wink Hope everyone is ok. x

BadgerFace · 15/07/2015 09:07

Can you work from home Sammy? That's what I did between EC and transfer, although it was a good thing I did in the end as I had to wee into a jug due to risk of OHSS and that would have been interesting in the office!

Good luck today kaz, fantastic that you've got so many doing well, you should hopefully be able to stock the freezer too!

Hope you're feeling okay Miffy.

loopylou1984 · 15/07/2015 09:31

Unfortunately badger I can't, but I have called in sick anyway because I was up all night feeling and being sick, I think I might have got a total of an hours sleep.
Dh called the emergency pager line in the night, and I have spoken to a nurse this morning but as the nausea isn't so bad now they don't want to see me. She said to eat lots of carbs to keep my blood sugar up.

Kaz - good luck with your ET today! X

BadgerFace · 15/07/2015 11:22

You poor thing, sounds like a very legitimate sick day to me even without IVF! I hope eating helps to sort it out and the nausea passes.
