Any on looking to start ivf/icsi in the new year?

Just wondering if anyone would like to keep me company and share the ivf/icsi journey. DH and I are both 35 years old and have been trying to conceive our first child for 10months. DH has lowish sperm motility and I have a low amh (7.24). We haven't had any luck so far and so the next step will be ivf with icsi in the new year. We are thinking of starting end of feb or march. Would be great to share the journey with others in similar situations and hopefully make some friends along the way Smile

Thanks, Badger, good to know!

kazcal · 02/07/2015 07:35

Great news both warrior & badger Smile Miffy i alternate sides for injections, im injecting 3 times a night & was told this time to do it inline with belly button, rather than lower down as before....saves bruising!?. I have my 1st scan tom to see how follies are doin hopefully they are plumping up but i always feel nothing is happening...you'd think with all these drugs going in you you'd feel somethin happening!!! Ah well, time will tell. Chin up people. Wink x

Having been to Secret Cinema Star Wars last night, I'd just like to say that Mos Eisley cantina is a difficult place to get a drink that's non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated and not full of sugar...

warriorbot · 05/07/2015 18:10

Oooh! Sounds like a fun night out but for the (lack of) beverage choices!

Persipan · 05/07/2015 20:43

Lando's Chicken (yes, really) were very obliging in helping me avoid carbs, though! It was lots of fun. I particularly enjoyed overhearing someone say "Ooh, we're on the Death Star... I wonder if it has better toilet facilities?"

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 05/07/2015 21:12

haha, sounds great, Persipan, although in the heat I can't imagine wanting an alcoholic, caffeinated, sugary drink regardless of IVF!
I've got my second scan in the morning - I hope they don't cancel EC because of lack of growth. Anyway, because they upped my dose, I've finished all the injections I had bought now. After a week of doing really well, I have managed to give myself some very colourful bruises! I wonder if I'll need to buy more tomorrow or if I'm done now.
Ah, how I love the uncertainties of IVF...
How was your scan, Badger?

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 06/07/2015 11:20

Today's scan was ok - well I didn't get any details but she said everything looks fine and she hopes to get 3-5 eggs. She's started me on estradiol, presumably to try and thicken my lining? And I'm to trigger at 11pm on Tuesday, with egg collection on Thursday - time to be confirmed (really hope it is first thing, given the not eating for 6hrs beforehand!)
Scary how it seems to be suddenly moving quickly now!
Do people think it is realistic to plan to work the day after egg collection?
kazcal, sorry for not asking earlier, how did the scan go on Friday? I found the first scan very stressful, the not knowing what would be there. But then again they all seem quite stressful in their own unique way...

kazcal · 06/07/2015 14:07

Hi ladies, Miffy my scan fri was good all looking as it should, went again today & even more activity & of good sizes so looks like a defo egg collection Fri if not Mon. Much shorter cycle is so much better!! Smile Hope yr all doin good. x

kazcal · 06/07/2015 14:08

Miffy good luck for thurs Smile Smile

BadgerFace · 06/07/2015 16:04

All sounding good ladies! My scan went well on Friday too. The little one was jumping all over the shop and made the sonographer's job a bit tricky!!

Miffy you will most likely be fine to work the day after collection if you have a desk job but could be s bit bloated/sore. Is working from home an option? That's what I did between collection and transfer with DD's cycle. Think it's usually about 36 hours between trigger and collection although I could be wrong.

All sounding good for you kaz!

Good to hear so much activity on the thread. Smile

Persipan · 06/07/2015 16:37

Bugger all happening on either side at my scan today - they've whacked me up to the highest dose of Gonal F and lengthened the time between scans to give me a chance, but all in all I don't think it's looking good...

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 06/07/2015 18:38

oh Persipan, that sucks. Particularly unfair when you got a fair crop last time (on one side at least).
When's your next scan?

Persipan · 06/07/2015 19:32

Thursday. And to add insult to injury, First Great Western are going on strike so getting to that scan will have to be done in the manner of Phileas Fogg, leaping from one mode of transport to the next. (They did ask at the clinic how I got there, but neglected to mention why they were asking...) So, all in all, today pretty much sucks.

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 06/07/2015 20:08

oh that does suck. Unless you could go by hot air balloon, which would be pretty cool. Or helicopter. But I'm guessing nothing that exciting - bummer.

BadgerFace · 07/07/2015 08:03

Oh Persipan how frustrating for you. Fingers crossed the strike is cancelled.

Persipan · 07/07/2015 09:30

Nope, it's definitely on. The RMT can go and boil their heads in a bag and I hope they replace them all with robots.

I have a cunning plan involving the Megabus (which, not a hot air balloon, buy at least it's mega... right?) and I'm just waiting for the clinic to call me back to hopefully change my appointment time.

Miffy, for my egg collection last time I went to London the next day, went to the theatre, and came back at like 4 in the morning! So, on that showing, you should be OK to work.

warriorbot · 07/07/2015 11:57

Oh Persipan - what a load of frustrating arse re: the strike! I hope that Mega Bus are indeed Mega.

(And "Lando's Chicken"? Grin Grin Grin)

Good luck for Thursday Miffy! And congratulations on the bouncy little one, Badger Star

The spouse and I just had a long weekend in Madrid with some friends and their two year old. It's kept my mind off the waiting very nicely. Shame we had to come back. (Or not - it's over 40 degrees there now. That's just silly!)

warriorbot · 09/07/2015 11:59

Good luck today, Miffy and Persian. Hope transport hasn't been too much of an embuggerance!

Are you EC tomorrow kazcal?

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 09/07/2015 12:44

Thanks warrior!

How did it go, Persipan?

They got 5 eggs this morning, which I'm pleased with. Weird to think about what they're up to - have they met the sperm yet?
And lucky old me, knowing how much everyone loves progesterone front-ways, I've just picked up a prescription for 90 of the little charmers!

Dr said if only 2 are fertilised, they'll pop them back in on Saturday, otherwise she'll wait for Monday, or maybe Tuesday. I had thought Tuesday, 5 days post, would have been the optimal, but anyway. Just got to wait for the call tomorrow now to see how they're doing.

warriorbot · 09/07/2015 14:45

Crossing everything for you, Miffy.

Persipan · 09/07/2015 15:29

So, the news from my scan is that I'm out for this round - my ovaries still aren't doing anything to speak of and the doctor thought it would be as well to stop and start again another time as to continue flinging Gonal F at them in the hope they might suddenly react. This is actually pretty much exactly what I was thinking, so in a weird way I'm relieved - I was worried they'd want to keep going for a bit longer even though this cycle obviously wasn't going anywhere.

Also, this is apparently Weird and Strange, because I've reacted so differently this round to last time, even though everything was basically the same (other than me no longer being 20lb overweight, and the fact I ate sensible food and not just cake). The doctor's verdict was that maybe being on the Pill beforehand over-suppressed me, so next time she wants to try without it. I'm also pretty happy about that, so all said it's been a weirdly successful day in spite of not being.

Because my work is so crazy busy in September/ October, I've said I basically can't have treatment then, so it'll probably be November-ish before I get going again, though. (I might do a sneaky home insem via Cryos in the meantime, though, just to keep busy!)

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 09/07/2015 15:39

oh Persipan! Well good that they reckon they'll try something different next time, that is positive. And glad they're not just ploughing on regardless.

BadgerFace · 09/07/2015 20:04

How frustrating for you Persipan although it sounds like you are taking the positives from the situation which is great. It's good that you have a straight forward change to try in not taking the Pill for your next cycle. I haven't heard of Cryos but will cross my fingers for your between-cycles-miracle... (P.s. 20lb weight loss is AMAZING!! Well done you.)

Good to hear your collection went well Miffy, here's to the Petri dish parties tonight!!

Good to hear you had a nice break warrior. 40 degrees would have been way too hot for me!

Hope all is going well kaz.

Persipan · 09/07/2015 21:00

Cryos is that Danish sperm bank that do home delivery (much to the pearl-clutching horror of the HFEA). It's not at all likely to actually work, mind you, but it's theoretically possible! I did a couple of tries after my last IVF and found it psychologically helpful to be doing something; plus it was a good way of getting more used to and less stressed by the 2ww.

Miffy, I know my clinic base when to transfer on how many are available to potentially chose from - so, if one or two fertilised, they'd just go ahead and do a transfer early on because there'd be nothing to gain by waiting; whereas if several fertilised they'd wait to see which were the front-runners. Maybe your clinic think along the same lines.

kazcal · 09/07/2015 21:14
