Any on looking to start ivf/icsi in the new year?

Just wondering if anyone would like to keep me company and share the ivf/icsi journey. DH and I are both 35 years old and have been trying to conceive our first child for 10months. DH has lowish sperm motility and I have a low amh (7.24). We haven't had any luck so far and so the next step will be ivf with icsi in the new year. We are thinking of starting end of feb or march. Would be great to share the journey with others in similar situations and hopefully make some friends along the way Smile

I have been reading up on endo scratches, thanks to your post lucie - I'd not heard of them before. I will definitely be asking my consultant about whether it's worth me having one before my next cycle as everything I've read is very positive about them. Were you recommended it for a particular reason? I hope AF is in full flow for you now (we don't often say that on the infertility board!) so you can start stimming soon. Not long until your Prague trip now!! It's a very beautiful city, although I would recommend NOT walking up the church tower in the central square - it was one of the scariest things I've done...

Laika I hope your Good Friday transfer went well. Have you got one or two on board?

How are you feeling kaz?

I hope you're back on top form now keepon.

Waves to everyone else and I hope you all had a restful Easter.

Hi everyone...hope all is well?
Im getting rather bored of this waiting game!!!, another 6 days until i test!! Feeling absolutly fine, no twinges, cramps etc so spend most of my time "googling" the answers...need to stop this!!! Grin

kazcal · 07/04/2015 10:13

Laika ...how was friday?, hope it all went well for you.
Badge...u exchanged house yet?, hows the drinkies??!!...my hubby had his 1st pint in a month yest while i had a j2o Sad !!!,

laikalooo · 07/04/2015 11:01

Hi everyone. Friday went well - had a top grade 8 cell transferred. Had two last time but they really advised just one this time as it was such good quality and I've already had a successful pregnancy. Managed to freeze 3 top quality blasts too. Since Sunday I've been feeling pretty knackered and also with a funny taste in my mouth and nausea - I hope it's not all in my head though!! Last time I had symptoms pretty much straight away so fingers crossed. Like you Kaz I've been driving myself crazy googling stuff. I'm back in for bloods on the 15th so in just over a week. It's going to be a long wait I think. To be honest feeling pretty down about it all today - it's such a roller coaster!

BadgerFace · 07/04/2015 13:40

Drinks are lovely kazcal, I will miss them when I stop again towards the end of the month! We will hopefully exchange on the house this Friday and move next Friday, fingers crossed...

lucieloos · 07/04/2015 20:44

Hi Badger, I had read up lots of things regarding the scratch as well when I was researching ivf. It's not something that my clinic recommended for me as because this is my first ivf they had no cause to but they were happy for me to give it a go as it won't do any harm. It's normally recommended for those with implantation issues or repeated miscarriages but it does increase the implantation rate by about 20% and as it was relatively inexpensive I wanted to give it a go first time around as just want to feel I've tried as much as I can.

AF arrived yesterday so I will be doing my first ever injection in about 40 minutes time!! I've got everything out ready and just need to refresh my memory with a couple of you tube videos!! I can't believe this is it and I'm finally starting. I have 2 scans booked at my local clinic on Monday and Wednesday next week and have my flight booked to Czech for a week on Friday for egg collection! Fingers crossed.

Also congrats to Laika on having your fab embie transferred back and good luck to Kaz for testing soon.

Huge congrats to you as well badger with your house purchase. I hope the move goes smoothly. Lots happening on this board at the moment!

Sorry for the double post, just I am on the app on my phone and it doesn't let me look back at what everyone has said when I'm replying so I forget what I wanted to say!

How was the jab lucie?

Thanks for the info, I will definitely be asking about an endo scratch, I had a look at my clinic's price list and it's only £200 - like you say, let's throw everything at it!

warriorbot · 08/04/2015 21:39

Awesome news Laika and best of luck with the jabs, Lucie

lucieloos · 09/04/2015 11:40

Yes definitely go for the scratch badger it won't do any harm. We are also going to use embryo glue and PICSI.

I have done 2 injections so far and they have been fine. I can honestly hardly feel them going in so I have no issue with that. I just feel very tired at the moment so don't know if that's from the medication or me needing more sleep. I only have 7 more days of stimms to go after today though so not too bad.

I'm feeling nervous about my scans already. They are on Monday and Wednesday before work and I just want everything to work out ok and for there to be lots of follicles!!

BadgerFace · 09/04/2015 13:44

I have never heard of embryo glue either! Thanks for all these tips lucie.

The medication can definitely make you feel tired so rest whenever you can. Good luck with the scans next week!

lucieloos · 09/04/2015 14:46

Thanks Badger, embryo glue is relatively new as well but a lot of clinics are using it now and reporting an increase in results. They soak the embryos in a special culture before transferring them back. It's meant to make implantation easier. Again I don't know how much it will help but it's another low cost option that I'm giving a go! I'm determined to make it work ha ha.

DH has low motility so we are having ICSI but we are also using PICSI so instead of the embryologist picking a sperm they think looks ok they use a culture the same as that which surrounds the egg and apparently the better, stronger sperms will be the ones that "stick" to the culture so it's a more natural method of selection.

It's amazing what they can do, isn't it. It blows my mind slightly if I think about it too much...

We are going to try this month the old fashioned way as I can't FET cycle again until May/June purely for appointment availability reasons. The trouble is that now I am so in the assisted conception mindset I keep thinking maybe I shouldn't try naturally as any embryo would be me at aged 37 when I have some lovely aged 34 embryos in the freezer... I may have officially gone bonkers!!

warriorbot · 11/04/2015 18:50

Don't go bonkers, Badger, go bonk!

BadgerFace · 11/04/2015 20:38

Ha ha warrior, we will try our best. You just never know...!

warriorbot · 11/04/2015 21:07

That's the attitude we're taking during this enforced hiatus!

BadgerFace · 16/04/2015 21:32

Are you off to CZ tomorrow lucie? Good luck!

We are moving tomorrow, hurray!

warriorbot · 21/04/2015 16:40

How was the move Badger? Happy new place to you!

I'm back to day one (hey ho - the homebrew attempt was a long shot.) Baseline scan the third tomorrow. Third time lucky?

lucieloos · 23/04/2015 07:55

Hi there sorry I haven't updated for a while. We are in cz at the moment. We had 7 eggs collected, 6 of which were mature and all 6 fertilised! I had to ring up yesterday for my day 3 report and all 6 are still going strong. We have 1x9 cell, 2x7 cell, and 3x6 cell. Transfer is tomorrow (day 5) at 1130am. Eeekkk I'm so excited and nervous! I really hope some good ones make it. It's such a rollercoaster but I have found the clinic out here absolutely amazing and I completely trust them! My clinic back in the UK who did my scans for me had said that if I was a patient there then they would advise me to cancel altogether as they didn't think I was stimmed enough and hadn't had a good enough response for my age but thankfully I didn't listen and here i am with 6 embryos on day 3. If anyone is considering going abroad for future treatment I would highly recommend it! They really go for quality over quantity here.

Congratulations, Lucie - that's great news! Fingers crossed for a stress-free transfer. Flowers

My day 1 scan was reassuring. My cyst is still there but has shrunk considerably. Hoping the blood test results show a nice hormone profile when they come through today. My next scan is day 8 (next Wednesday) when we should hopefully be gearing up for an NC FTET! Grin

Darkchoc · 23/04/2015 13:02

Good luck Lucie with the transfer, that is a great number to fertilize and not a dissimilar number to myself. As others have said on here, the transfer is usually very straightforward and only takes minutes. I was so relieved to reach that far. People say that the waiting starts at transfer, for me it started in earnest after egg collection and wondering which ones would fertilize and then grow in embryos. IVF seems to be full of ifs and buts, but the experience is really helped or hindered by the hospital. You sound as though you have a good one. I'm just a little in front of you and had my transfer over the weekend.

Well, I'm officially on my 10 day wait...4dp blastocyst transfer. Was feeling really buoyant, but that's since dissipated. I do not feel pregnant and don't have any symptoms except those of the progesterone torpedoes, usually horrid bloating etc! Whilst two top quality blastocysts were transferred, the other two blastocysts were of lower quality and couldn't be frozen. That means if this cycle fails, I can't progress to the FET as I very much hoped I could. Oh well.

Good luck too Warriorbot, BadgerFace and all the other ladies ttc.

warriorbot · 23/04/2015 13:30

Keeping everything crossed for you Darkchoc - you're right: the waiting and the uncertainty is just so sodding annoying! Do you have anything nice (and distracting) planned to keep you sane while waiting?

lucieloos · 23/04/2015 14:33

I know what you mean Choc it's definitely a waiting game after collection to find out how many you got, how they are doing etc. I'm really looking forward to the actual transfer I'm just hoping that we have a decent couple left tomorrow to transfer!

Try and stay positive with yours I know lots of people who haven't felt any symptoms as such after transfer but then went onto get their bfp. Keeping everything crossed for you.

Glad everything is moving forward nicely with you warrior and hope your blood tests come back ok. Do you have any idea when you will likely have the transfer?

OP posts:
warriorbot · 23/04/2015 15:56

Most likely dates are around the 9th/10th/11th of May... StarGrinStar

After nearly three months stuck in "waiting to get better" limbo I'm very excited to be counting days and lanning clinic appointments again. It feels nice to be doing something. Even better, as it's NC, the something I'm doing is very, very easy indeed - just taking care of myself and weighing up SET versus transferring both...
