They have the heating seeking cams on the helicopters but going on info, there are lots of cliff face ie rock cover/small caves-it will be hard to find him if he hides in those under darkness.
I find the 'campsite' scenerio unbelievable, someone reported a sighting of smoke and police took a few hours to chase it up.

I don't watch SkyNews usually, but tuned in the last few days-they've had a drug smuggler escapee from a Thai jail (David Mcmillan)on,giving his views on the murderer.

Good old sky.

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/07/2010 22:32

I wondered about the heat seeking cameras and helicopters too. But if Moat has declared war on the police then perhaps they are wary of booby traps or what weapons he has if they approach?
They may very well know where he is and be staking it out - rather than rush in and have a bloodbath the police probably want to starve him out/wear him down till he gives himself up without any shooting.
He will be having to stay awake 24/7 to avoid being caught so maybe not long till he has to give up or fall asleep?

LaDiDaDi · 08/07/2010 10:02

I wonder if he's already dead somewhere and that's why the heat seeking things are working? Either that or he never went to Rothbury at all but sent his mates to distract the police?

5inthebed · 08/07/2010 10:07

I'm also a bit about the campsite being his. Did they find the letter there or am I just making that up in my head?

I think the SAS will be called in shortly to find him.

dizzytrout · 08/07/2010 10:33

They apparently found a letter for Samantha Stobbart at the campsite...
I hope they find him soon, I know it's unlikely that he would harm a member of public, but you can't help but worry. My family and friends live in Rothbury (I grew up there) and I now live in Birtley where the first shooting happened. A wierd thing happened on Birtley before the shooting though, there were about 10 police vehicles and twice as many police all over the place, this was on the Friday evening - not sure what that was all about

samcrow · 08/07/2010 11:05

I've just heard that the police are now looking in Elsdon, I have lovely memories of going on holiday there as a child, does anyone live there ?

dizzytrout · 08/07/2010 11:12

My sister lives fairly near there, it's surrounded by moors, firing ranges and woodland, it's a vast area, probablt very difficult to search.

samcrow · 08/07/2010 11:22

Do the army still practice on the moors ? They should rope them into the search. I wonder if the police think he walked there, how realistic would that be without being seen ?

dizzytrout · 08/07/2010 11:39

I think they do, I suppose he could have walked there through the woodland and fields, there are a couple of routes he could have taken, but surely someone would've seen him...

StealthPolarBear · 08/07/2010 11:50

this whole thing is getting stranger
Apparently there was meant to be a press release at 11 but it's been delayed

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 08/07/2010 12:54

hes now threatening the public
wonder what the impact of this is on general crime in the area

dizzytrout · 08/07/2010 12:57

I've just heard on the news, I'm so worried, what was said? I couldn't hear as my phone keeps ringing (at work)

ladylush · 08/07/2010 13:02

I'm a bit about all the high profile media footage of armed police poised with guns. Wtf is that all about and is it really necessary?

StealthPolarBear · 08/07/2010 13:02

not much more than that something like up till now his vendetta has been against the police now we are aware he has made threats against the general public
sorry

dizzytrout · 08/07/2010 13:07

I just heard a bit of the interview, the police said they weren't prepared to say how they got that information, I wonder how on earth they know? I suppose it could be from the 2 men they arrested or the letter

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 08/07/2010 13:09

I heard on the news that the SAS are hunting for him as well now.

Poshwellies · 08/07/2010 13:10

Police chief sue =Gwendoline from Wallace & grommit

ladylush · 08/07/2010 13:12

I think they should be more discreet about the operation tbh.

suitejudyblue · 08/07/2010 13:16

Its getting ridiculous now, I've just watched the press conference on Sky News and the main man said he wasn't going to name the shop the cctv came from to protect them but lo and behold go to sky.com and they will helpfully tell you that it was B&Q.
Get your acts togther.

Saltire · 08/07/2010 13:16

It could well be that the police officers we are seeing on tv are a decoy, to take the media away from what is really happening

StealthPolarBear · 08/07/2010 13:19

i'm sure I'm naive but I'd imagine they know exactly what they're doing, what they're choosing to be made public and keep to themselves

I grew up In Rothbury and am totally to see my sleepy village at the centre of this.
Where the BBC did their interview from had my guide hall in the background

The terrain there as they rightly say is a nightmare, I had a friend in school who did all his pre-army training in that area, its certainly specialised and not something I imagine the police are used to.

Have they released the names of the men from Rothbury they have in custody? My mum mentioned a name this morning but Im not sure if she was making it up

Quality · 08/07/2010 13:21

I'm with you ladylush, it's the bloody media desperate for something to report that are speculating wildly, and then the police have to come on to refute/confirm I think.

DH and I are of the firm belief he is planning suicide by cop anyway, which makes the police's job so much harder.

Doubt he'll last long against the SAS though...

mosschops30 · 08/07/2010 13:22

Oh and on a totally shallow note someone needs to tell the Chief Constabble to do something with her hair. WTF??? I thought it was a joke, or a shadow, but no it was her hair.
Love the detective inspectors accent, makes me homesick

StealthPolarBear · 08/07/2010 13:26

another shallow note - does anyone know if the A1 is open / running as normal?
Parents are meant to be going to Bamburgh in the morning
