Anyone seen this on the news?

Red - they need people to go camp etc. Tourism is a huge industry and they can't afford for people to stay away.

RedOnHerHead · 02/06/2010 18:26

Northernlurker, that's what I was thinking too. We should go to show our support, but I am devastated for everyone there. I have a horrible tension in my stomach. Just so shocked at what I'm hearing. I think we should go. I'm sure the atmosphere will be very subdued. awful awful...

whatname · 02/06/2010 18:26

oh dear God. I can't stop crying. My mum and dad are up there with my two little nieces.
and when someone mentioned a couple and a 2 year old.
i'm shaking
i've spoken to them and they are all fine. They are 20 miles away, but just heard Cumbria and panicked

RedOnHerHead · 02/06/2010 18:28

whatname glad your loved ones are safe. But so many must be devastated right now. My stomach is knotted.

northernlurker, i feel the very same about our wonderful police. I have just seen a couple outside, and felt the overwhelming urge just to go up to them and thank them for doing a wonderful job

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 18:33

whatname So glad to hear they are ok!

Me too jetcat!

ZZZenAgain · 02/06/2010 18:34

I agree with Northerner too, total respect for the police - and anyone who rose to the challenge, as I am sure many did, like the cyclist who tried to help the poor women who sadly died, the hospital staff, ordinary people who tried to help

Inexplicable the whole thing. How horrible for someone in your family to just get struck down in such a random manner.

toccatanfudge · 02/06/2010 18:36

agree with NorthernLurker, and lets not forget the medical staff too

RedOnHerHead · 02/06/2010 18:36

we are very lucky that our emergency services and armed forces are full of the most wonderful, selfless men and women, putting others before themselves. A very heartfelt thankyou to you all.

jetcat · 02/06/2010 18:39

this may be a stupid idea, but you know how there have been some wonderful collections on here for various people, could we perhaps do one for this?

havent really thought it through, so no idea as to where the money would go, but i really feel the need to do something

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 18:40

Maybe money towards a memorial?

jetcat · 02/06/2010 18:41

that sounds good Kaloki

jetcat · 02/06/2010 18:53

errrm, i have no idea as to how to actually start up a collection

is it paypal?

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 18:53

I have no idea, hoepfully someone better organised will come along.

DuelingFanjo · 02/06/2010 19:32

I thought this was worth watching media coverage

vintage · 02/06/2010 19:40

just watched the coverage on channel 4 news shocking the places he went seem such ovely quiet towns... on a different note i thought whats his face doing the reportings tie was a bit jolly for covering such a tradgedy

jetcat · 02/06/2010 19:49

vintage - our local news (the one who covers that area anyway), the reporter was close to tears He is a lovely chap (have met him a couple of times) and to see him so upset really got to me

ZZZenAgain · 02/06/2010 19:51

can't comment on the media coverage. Am overseas and have just read about it online

vintage · 02/06/2010 20:02

i mean the guy who is Jon Snows sidekick i cant remmber his name sorry

longfingernailspaintedblue · 02/06/2010 20:03

Yes Krishnan Gurumurthy's tie was awful... very loud.

Really sorry for all the victims

LadyBuzz · 02/06/2010 20:07

It is very very sad, whitehaven and the surrounding villages are so quiet and beautifully picturesque.
I live in Cumbria and the poor souls in West Cumbria have had so much to deal with lately. The emergency services are fantastic and they deserve medals!
Horrible day!

yes but he could have changed his tie, he had travelled all the way to Cumbria with the camer crew etc. It was inappropriate

Coolfonz · 02/06/2010 20:20

Terrible. Feel sad he offed himself, shame he wasn't caught and prosecuted.

Coolfonz · 02/06/2010 20:21

When i say sad it's not like i'm pissed off he's dead, i mean like frustrated and angry he wasn't caught.
