standard police response would (i believe) be to have him shot by armed police if he brandished a weapon when apprehended. though this one seems more likely to go the suicide route....

I have just spoken to my sister who is on half term and was about to drive up to the Lakes from Lancashire.

Thanks to this thread I was able to phone her before she set off.

I have a friend who lives in Whitehaven, she is locked in her house under police orders. At least she and kids ok. urgh.

I hope he does kill himself. and soon. Can't see any good coming out of a trial / imprisonment.

Radio Cumbria are saying he is on foot in Eskdale area. Advising walkers to get inside. He is a local guy from West Cumbria.

As the police know this man's identity, presumably they've got some idea of whether he could go to ground in that area. Hope they've got helicopters aloft - that's a large area to search.

Have called my parents who are in S Cumbria. No answer. I do hope they're down at the bowling club not out on the fells.

mumble, chances are they are absolutely fine - even if they are out walking, I know that probably isn't much comfort but it is true. Do they have mobiles?
