Re the Derbyshire incident that was mentioned earlier...
The child died in hospital, and the bodies of a man and woman were found in the home. Police aren't looking for anyone else.

What a day.

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 16:56

More than 5 dead now

LetThereBeRock · 02/06/2010 17:01

Where was that announced Kaloki?

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 17:02

BBC news, apparently there'll be an announcement in a little while to say how many more than 5

LetThereBeRock · 02/06/2010 17:04

Thankyou.I'll watch the live feed then.

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 17:26

12 now fuck

StealthPolarBear · 02/06/2010 17:28

12 dead??
am i being stupid? how is this only now coming to light? was he killing people while he was running away then?

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 17:32

Seems like it stealth. Some reports are saying that he was shooting from his car

mrspear · 02/06/2010 17:38

Absolutely shocking. My heartfelt condolences to the families affected.

I can't believe this happened.

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 17:47

He also had 2 guns. WTF!?!

MuthaHubbard · 02/06/2010 17:55

from what i gather, there were 11 different 'locations' for this incident - seems like he shot a couple of people at each location and, it seems, his mum.

due to the geographical area, discovery of his mum, and obviously some may have died once in hospital, that's probably why the figure seems to have jumped up.

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 17:55

I did read that his mum is safe and with police?

StealthPolarBear · 02/06/2010 17:57

well the thing that was puzzling me is that it always seemed to be 25 reported as injured, so as though the new fatalities were being discovered.
Anyway, no point in speculating and questioning, sure we'll know soon enough

toccatanfudge · 02/06/2010 17:57

Mutha - according to the BBC there are 30 different crime scenes, but apparently police have said he didn't shoot his mother, she's safe and well and being support by her family.

toccatanfudge · 02/06/2010 17:58

just seen a ticker to say that emergency services as still going out checking for any more victims, I guess with him driving through some "remote" areas there could be victims that no-one knows about until they've not accounted for.

Just terrible

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 17:59

Have to say, despite all this happening the police seem to have been pretty good and fast despite the scale of this!

StealthPolarBear · 02/06/2010 17:59

yes, that's quite disturbing. Hope there aren't too many calling the helpline and still waiting for news

LetThereBeRock · 02/06/2010 18:02

It's unbelievable that 12 lives have been taken.

It seems so strange that think that they can be here one day and gone the next. That there's food in the fridge they'll never eat, ambitions they had that they'll never fufill, appointments they'll never holidays that were booked that they won't go on,friends and family they'll never see again and all because of this man who may never have done anything wrong before but who decided today that he was going to take people's lives.

How could anyone do that?

MuthaHubbard · 02/06/2010 18:04

i see, didn't realise re his mum.

some of the areas are very remote, boot is a quite small place i believe.....only two pubs etc.

LetThereBeRock · 02/06/2010 18:06

The stories emerging are horrific. A cyclist who had a woman die in his arms.

ClaireDeLoon · 02/06/2010 18:09

This is so terrible. 12 people, it's just horrible. Fingers crossed that those injured recover well.

Kaloki · 02/06/2010 18:11

I feel so sick hearing this. Wish I could do something to help the families of the victims.

Northernlurker · 02/06/2010 18:13

It makes you feel very proud of the police doesn't it? Scenes of horror and fear all around and they just keep on going, putting themselves in harms way whilst telling everyone else to stay in doors. The police who found the body won't have known he was dead I suppose - all they will have known for sure was that they were getting closer and closer to a man with a gun who had killed many at random today. That is just extraordinary courage imo.

atomicsnowflake · 02/06/2010 18:14

He's shot himself.

RedOnHerHead · 02/06/2010 18:17

Thoughts and prayers with the people and families and friends in Cumbria this evening. We're supposed to be going there camping tomorrow. I'm not sure I want to go now.
