What a tragedy

Not clear whether an accident or not, mother being held and questioned, incredibly sad, those poor babies.

Yet another 'ooh, isn't it awful' thread.... I hate these.

toccatanfudge · 18/05/2010 19:12

well what do you expect the OP to say on such threads Chil? "oh isn't that fantastic"

Chil1234 · 18/05/2010 19:15

Add something to what we've all read in the papers and seen on TV perhaps. Some comment on what it might say about life/the universe/anything really. 'It's sad' is stating the obvious rather than a prompt for conversation. Gets boring.

Ewe · 18/05/2010 19:26

Well when there is more information I suspect it will make an interesting discussion... either, how do these terrible accidents happen or what could possibly drive someone to kill their own children?

As it stands very little information has been reported so it's impossible to do much more than comment on the sadness and loss of two children.

You don't have to read or comment you know.

FuckingPants · 18/05/2010 19:27

chil, sometimes all there is to say is that is sad

and sometimes people just want to say it, and acknowledge that something so awful happened

and it was clear from the title what it would be about...so why did you click on it?

just to give you the opportunity of making a sarky comment ?

fifitot · 18/05/2010 19:57

Don't read it then.

BigFatSepticToe · 18/05/2010 20:13

it IS sad.

each and every time something like this happens it is very very sad - in lots of different ways.

And if we are not moved to think "its sad", then we are poor human beings, IMO

I never want to be immune to these stories

lovechoc · 18/05/2010 20:49

Don't read the thread then if it's so 'boring'

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 18/05/2010 20:59

I really hope this is a tragic accident.

One of the children is a similar age to mine.

So so sad.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 18/05/2010 21:17

The mother has been charged with their murder .

I wonder if it is a case of a marital breakdown or depression.

junglist1 · 18/05/2010 22:08

This might sound wierd but I hope she was mentally ill and this wasn't some warped revenge thing. It's still bad but if she planned it it's worse IYSWIM. Poor kids

FoJo · 19/05/2010 11:57

this is the first time i've ever copntributed to a thread on this subject but sky news webiste saying their dad was arrested on friday, one of britains most wanted criminals for child sex crimes. mum has admitted smothering them with plastic bags as she thought authorities would take them from her. Truly awful situation

Sky news have named the father as a former TV medium. He used to be on Most Haunted.

sethstarkaddersmum · 19/05/2010 13:01
FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/05/2010 13:03

He has now been charged.

Ponders · 19/05/2010 13:04

The baby was clearly conceived after they fled (Dec 2007) - presumably the mother knew why they were running?

5inthebed · 19/05/2010 13:05

The dad had been extradited earlier in the week for sex offences. According to the papers the mother suffered a mental breakdown.

Very tragic

wannaBe · 19/05/2010 13:15

oh let's excuse it with mentall illness then shall we.

Let's forget that the woman went on the run with a paedophile, had another child with him (he was a paedophile ffs!), and then when the law caught up with him murdered her children. Yes let's all sympathize with the poor woman. get real.

If this was a man the responses on here would have been vastly different.

Frankly it's an insult to anyone who has a real mental illness. There are plenty of people on mn with real mental illnesses, and afaik none of them would consider harming their children.

gingercat12 · 19/05/2010 13:16

Once there was a long article about mothers who kill their children in The Guardian. They thought that mothers sometimes kill when they think nobody will look after children, and they think this is their best option. I do not know about that. It is incredibly sad. What state of mind she could have been in?!

Wannabe, wasn't defending her, just stating what was in the article.

If she did know what the father of her children was guilty of, then it is disgusting, she deserves everything she gets.

AAgain, very tragic for those poor babies.

expatinscotland · 19/05/2010 13:21

I agree with wannabe's last post, 13:15:49.

As a person who has struggled with post natal depression for years, it is tiresome to constantly read excuses for any and all horrific behaviour as mental illness.

I personally find it incredibly insulting and feel that it contributes to stigmatisation of mentally ill people even further.

Murder your kids? Do terrible things to them and your partner? Must be mentally ill. Surely.
