Just seen a ticker on the BBC website saying that

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:47

Well rightly or wrongly I felt I have been attacked by Sophable. Now I only know what my opinions are, and it would seem that they are strong ones that not everyone agrees with . Basically my points about my career and the way I travel are not to say that I have more right to feel than anyone, more that I am hoping people may understand me better - i don't even know if that makes any sense. I did not mean to sound that what I think is more important than others at all.

Janh · 23/07/2005 20:47

OK, I will retire.

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:48

Urm, QoQ - after you called us all the c word and told us to take our heads out of our backsides for the way we felt about things. Hmmm - who seems more reasonable?

soapbox · 23/07/2005 20:48

Cha cha - fine - happy to call it quits. It seems that no matter how long we talked about it we would have different view points.

I'll go back to bending DH's ear over it all. He at least has the good sense to act like he agrees with me

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 20:49

Don't know why I bloody bothered - thought just perhaps yesterday was a 'one off' in the way I was spoken to when I dared to disagree with certain people - guess I was wrong........and I'm talking about BEFORE I swore.

jampots · 23/07/2005 20:51

I agree that if it wasnt for the suicide bombers then this guy would very likely still be alive today.

Also i think we may all be forgetting that not all Muslims are easily identifiable by their skin colour. I know of a few who converted to Islam and are white with blonde hair!

QoQ - Its not just the voice that gives the Irish away you know - they too are easily identifiable by some basic Irish traits

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:51

If there are any suicide bomber cells out there reading this, they will be ROFL.

MN is a melting pot and they have managed to set all races, religions and creeds against each other, even if it is only on here............but what a RESULT

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:52

Jampots

What. like a grá for Tayto ??

WideWebWitch · 23/07/2005 20:52

Hey flossam, if you were saying x and y mean that I am partic upset about this and feel strongly, fair enough. If you were saying x and y mean that my view point is more valid than yours, not fair enough! IMO obv!

soapbox · 23/07/2005 20:53

MGR - you are making some massive assumptions!

I would imagine it equally possible that those of us arguing here are all the same race, creed and religion

jampots · 23/07/2005 20:53

MGR

dont you think the irish have a "look"?

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 20:53

I think the frequent references to 'being in London' 'having witnessed the injuries' 'having to travel on the tube' - in relatioinship to feelings (and I'm not just talking about Flossam here - there are others too) show that the rest of us can't possibly have any idea what they're experienced.

OP posts:
jampots · 23/07/2005 20:56

I am horrified by what has happened in London but I do thank God I dont live/work there nor do any close family and friends (apart from some lovely MNers) . So I cant possibly imagine what its like there right now nor would I wish to.

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:56

Soapbox

Sorry I don't agree.

starshaker · 23/07/2005 20:57

what i think is that he came out his house and was a bit colder thats why he had a jacket on and to be honest if i say a guy in a white t-shirt and jeans running towards me with a gun id run like hell to its soooo sad

ChaCha · 23/07/2005 20:57

Well said Jampots. My DH is a British convert and is blonde with blue eyes as is my mum and many friends! Now you would never look at them and think 'oh there goes a suicide bomber', why should we just because of beard, headscarf, turban, skin colour....ridiculous!

soapbox · 23/07/2005 20:58

MGR - do you have insider information????

I've no idea what race, religion or creed anyone except 2 people on this site are!

Caligula · 23/07/2005 20:58

I don't think that's fair QoQ. I think it's obvious that people who live near the targets are going to feel more threatened than those of us who live outside London, just as young, dark-skinned men are going to feel more threatened by the idea of being stopped by the police now, than young white men are.

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:59

QoQ

Have "known" you quite a long time in MN terms, so feel I can say this......... will you stop acting like a dog with a bone and let it go.

PLEASE ???

soapbox · 23/07/2005 20:59

Caligua - yes you may feel more threatened but that doesn't mean that you suddenly acquire more wisdom with it

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 21:03

but Caligula - that's assuming that those of us who don't 'live' in London have no connections with people (close family for instance) who live and work in London. It's also assuming that we've never witnessed anything like it before and therefore can have no real idea of the fear that people are feeling.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 23/07/2005 21:03

True soapbox, true. I spoke to ex dh (who is British Indian) earlier and asked if he felt people were warier of him atm and he said 'ask me again on Tuesday when I've had to do a tube journey'- he commutes out of London by car atm but will be using the tube on Tuesday. It's awful, he knows people will be suspicious of him. He was born in Hendon and is Hindu ffs!

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 21:03

Soapbox

Too tired to argue with you, but just off the top of my head I am aware of the following.

English

Irish

South Africans

Kiwis

Ozzies

Zimbabwean's

American's

Catholic's

Protestant's

Baptist's

Muslim's

Jewish

White witches

Agnostics

I stand by my post and will defend it no further.

Sorry but too tired.

Flossam · 23/07/2005 21:03

I was going to post just how hard I am finding it. But it will just look again that I am saying I have it harder than everyone and bring me in for more flak. I am stuck not being able to explain myself or defend myself.

WideWebWitch · 23/07/2005 21:04

Oh flossam you are allowed to find it hard! Absolutely.
