Have been watching sky news and there is nothing about further bombs, or the worry of further bombs

Obviously abroad (such as New York) they are concerned that there may be attacks as they all strt commuting (although they are not on high alert yet)

PooPooGirl · 07/07/2005 12:45

Can anyone confirm the that offices at Canery Wharf have been evacuated? it would explain why friend has not repolied to email

Dingle · 07/07/2005 12:45

I know it's going off at tangents, but only this morning DS(5) was asking about guns and why people had them. I explained that there were some bad people in the world that used them. He asked if policemen had guns, and if they did, why. I explained that they would only use them if they had no chioce and the bad people were putting others lives in danger.
He then said he wanted to be a policeman to stop the bad people and keep others safe!!
How can anyone explain this to a child, I think it is a good thing that we have channels like cbeebies.

tex111 · 07/07/2005 12:46

Yes, the whole phases idea is scaring me too. Where did that theory come from?

Have finally heard from DH after a very fraught morning. His office is near Lloyds in the City and they've been told not to leave the building. He says there are bomb scares everywhere but it's hard to know what is serious and what's just panic.

emily05 · 07/07/2005 12:46

It is likely as the docklands railway has been shut down I think

Ive just shared this in this prayer with other and i wanted to share it with you all.

Divine and heavenly parent -
a few of your earth children join together at this time, with one thought
we humbly ask father, that your loving angels - those angels of light love and healing
be around all those suffering through terrorism at this time
we think today especially
of those in the UK
who today are suffering
we pray that your ministering angels be around them
bringing them healin support and relief
we ask in humility that they will feel your presence
that they will realise that a higher power is at work around them
helping and sustaining them at this time
we also send out our thoughts to all those who have friends relatives or loved ones, who may have been involved
be around them
love and protect them
and we ask that they be made aware that our love and thoughts are with them
all this we ask thru love
amen -

mishmash · 07/07/2005 12:47

You OK misdee?

Blackduck · 07/07/2005 12:48

Gatwick certainly was still open earlier....

Fimbo · 07/07/2005 12:48

Are any other British Cities on major alert?

charleepeters · 07/07/2005 12:48

Heathrow?

NomDePlume · 07/07/2005 12:49

DH is on the phone. He's managed to get one of the very few trains running, he's on his way to Oxford as we speak. No idea how long it'll take him to get a train out of Oxford, but am breathing an enormous sigh of blessed relief that he is safely out of the capital.

Springchicken · 07/07/2005 12:49

Glad NDP - at least he is out now x

mishmash · 07/07/2005 12:49

Gatwick ok for the mo - my sister is due to take off for Ireland shortly and is in departures. Easyjet are sticking to published times at the mo.

Please God don't let this get worse.

Frieda · 07/07/2005 12:50

Poo poo girl ? I am in an office in the City & most people have left to make their way home. I should imagine that's why you haven't had contact. Also, mobile networks seem to be off and on (I'm on T mobile & have had calls on mine, so some are working). Hope all your friends are safe.

My step dad works in Canary Wharf - he is safe!

but they have been told they cannot leace the building, it is the safest places it has some protection.

Just awaitng news of friends now.

tiredemma · 07/07/2005 12:53

dizzymama- im just off now into b.ham- i will post as soon as i get into work what its like here.

i imagine its all panic and speculation though.

Azure · 07/07/2005 12:53

As everywhere is on high security alert now I think we can expect there to be a number of scares. Every unaccompanied bag, if only rubbish, will be treated as suspect and could result in a station or building being closed down (understandably so). It's better to be on the safe side - I just hope to God that this is the end of the explosions.

albert · 07/07/2005 12:53

OMG, just got this from BBC website
1210 The BBC's Security Correspondent Frank Gardner says BBC monitoring services have located a website linked to al-Qaeda with a 200-word statement claiming responsibility for the bombings
Thanks to all MNers for keeping this link going for those of us who have no access to TV or radio, most news websites are jammed and I for one feel helpless as I'm not in the UK.
God bless all of you and my thought go to all those trying to locate missing friends and relis.
