Danyl Johnson on X Factor.

I just don't get why people have such a downer on Danyl Johnson, making him out to be hugely cocky and overconfident. He is one of the best singers on the show.
Reading the paper this morning, there seems to be a feeling of satisfaction that he got what he deserved.
He has consistently performed well, and I just don't get why the media want to give him such a hard time. He is a nice lad who lives in my village near Reading, and is getting all this stuff written about how awful he is. My DH and DD1 met him at the rugby a few weeks ago and he was absolutely lovely, not diva-like at all. DD1 went all girly and star-struck, and lost the power of speech. He was SO kind, he told her not to be shy, and they had a nice little chat. My DH chatted to him too, and says he was a really nice guy.
I just think its really unfair the way he is being portrayed.
And Cheryl and that whole deadlock business, I've gone right off her now. Used to think she was nice.
Sorry for the rant, don't know what came over me

so you think he has unpaid bills at the farm shop?

It's not the point though Steph. The point is he is nice and he is from Arborfield.

ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:08

shouldn't he be a bit more openly patriotic though? He could sing Arborfield for ever (as in Strawberry fields).

The entire populace of Arborfield would ring in and vote, except maybe the farm shop owner

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:09

He might have ordered a turkey for xmas and not paid his deposit..that does happen. But they know where he is. They could get in touch if they needed to.

His name is Danyl, which in itself is extremely annoying!

Maybe he wanted to impress Cheryl and Dannii by coming up with a weird amalgamation of their names?

Zooropa · 27/10/2009 20:10

I will vote next week"

ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:10

that's sharp thinking Steph

Cheryl is unpopular in Arborfield atm anyway by the sounds of things

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:12

I think the name thing was his mum's fault. You know, the farm shop had a sausage festival in July.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:13

she can forget trying to order a xmas turkey there

Have you been won over Zoo? Atagirl pearshaped!

ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:13

Is his mum involved in the sausage festival?

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:13

If I catch Cheryl in Arborfield... well let's just say, it won't be pretty...

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:17

you've really put that meekness behind you now, haven't you?

and who says xfactor isn't life changine?

Rindercella · 27/10/2009 20:17

That area of Berkshire is vair nice, I have to say. I didn't think much of Nivarna spa though...prefer the smaller spa meself

I am impressed with your commitment to the cause pearshape

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:21

Don't go to Nirvana spa. Get my healthy workout taking the dogs up to the pig farm. That's proper aromatherapy.

For me it's not anything to do with smugness - he's no more sure of himself than Jamie Affro (whos voice i love). I just don't like that kind of warbling power voice performer and i think alot of the British public are the same. I think in the UK we either go for the fab back story (Stacey etc.) or gutsy voices. S Cowell has spent too long in the USA if he thinks Danyl's voice is appealing in any way.

I just can't see why he's in the finals.

Ronaldinhio · 27/10/2009 20:22

i grant you that he might be a nice bloke but he comes across as the grown up ginger from annie and sings with similar finesse

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:31

I don't have any issue with people thinking what they like about how good or bad his singing is, that's what it's all about.
It's the nasty rumours and "alleged" bullying and diva behaviour stories that I feel are really unfair. The guy deserves a fair chance.
I feel the meeja have gone a bit too far in the character assassination campaign. The poor guy has got to get on with his life when the programme is over.

Pmsl at the name being a mix of cheryl and dannii. Loving the arborfield chat although technically nirvana is in sindlesham. And hooray thank you zoo for the vote!

Rindercella · 27/10/2009 20:34

He's good. Very good. The British media (esp the red tops) seem to love knocking the wind out of anyone with talent. Surprised they didn't build him up first though, and then knock him down - they seem to revel in the higher you rise, the harder you fall type thing

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:35

That is correct, Nirvana is on Mole Road, which starts off in Arborfield being called Sindlesham Road, and no-one seems to know whereabouts along its length it changes to Mole Road. Not even the police. Or the council.

Ronaldinhio · 27/10/2009 20:38

to be fair you met him once and have no idea how he is when working, or competeing, or in a situation of stress.

It's really good to hear he was nice when he met you and your family but anything else you project from that one meeting is surely just as bad as the newspapers making things up...?

I unfortunately don't get the chance to read a tabloid but I thought he was generally unlikeable on x factor...overdone, a little smug and more than a touch high school musical. I wouldn't vote for him in a blue fit.that was decided from his performances not whatever has been touted in the currant bun

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:39

The farm shop is on the same road.

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:41

a-ha so the spa is near the farm shop

I'm envisioning this place now. You do realise what this is going to do to property prices pearshaped? You may live to regret this.

Boy Ronaldinhio is going to be a hard nut to crack.

abitpearshaped · 27/10/2009 20:44

No, there are many people locally who know him who are also bemused by the attitude of the papers. I was just namedropping.
The lady who looks after our dogs when we are on holiday, known by the kids as "mad dog lady" is also gunning for Cheryl.

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 27/10/2009 20:50

i'm taking it all very seriously ladies
very.very.seriously

ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2009 20:52
