"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 10:32

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

OP posts:
Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:22

Yes I know they used my screen name and not my real name but I'm still not happy with it. I use it all over the net and it's very personal to me, though I'm sure there are other Thunderducks out there.

I'm going to complain anyway. They might not care, they might not listen but it'll make me feel better.

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:23

I'm not expecting a reply. I do want to rant though either way.

Copyright infringement, it's more then a paragraph.

Fluffy is no more.

Thuderduck beware - they might send you DM vouchers by way of a goodwill gesture

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:25

I'll do that. And attempt to be civil.

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:26

Oh god no. Not vouchers! The postman might think that I'm a DM reader and then I'll have to move away.

BuffyTheFluffySlayer · 14/08/2009 01:27

Just give them away on Netmums thunderduck

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:28

But then I'll be associated with Netmums and the Daily Mail!

BuffyTheFluffySlayer · 14/08/2009 01:29

Netmums is the lesser of the two evils though don't you think?

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:29

Only slightly less satanic.

BuffyTheFluffySlayer · 14/08/2009 01:29

Payment/appology via bollinger only.

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:33

I'd settle for diet Irn Bru or a few bottles of Schloer.

Nancy66 · 14/08/2009 01:34

Thunderduck - I'd write to Alex Bannister if I were you. He's the Managing Editor rather than the editor and more concerned with day to day management.

he is the most likely to reply.

Thunderduck · 14/08/2009 01:34

Thankyou Nancy. That's what I'll do.

BuffyTheFluffySlayer · 14/08/2009 01:35

I think everyone should write to him, I bet he'd love this.

blinks · 14/08/2009 02:01

astonishingly bad form.

tbh I'm suprised this is allaimed at the DM rather than the mnetter who i'm pretty sure knew what the response would be.

And seeing as I have no idea who it is I feel a bit exposed.

oopsagain · 14/08/2009 07:28

Firstly, i don't care it's the DM, could eb any paper- as i've siad it's the thin end of the wedge and earlier I talked about posts on DV being raked up in "loaded" or "nuts" for their interest.

My cncern is that the door is completely open now to ANY publication to come in and raid the MN chat boards.

Which bit of that do you not understand, DP?

And less of the patronising tone, dear.

I didn't lose sleep over it- and I don't need you to tell me not to, thanks for your consern.

I find it rather nasy that id you can't convince somebody of your argument, then the next thing to do is to patronise.

Anyway, Justine, i appreciate your reply, but I do think it is raher wishy washy not to be sure of one's legal position before coming on and commenting/allowing/not seeking a clarification as discussed earlier.

I'm done, thanks everyone.
Mumsnet has bene a fab fab place but this is the final straw
(not the DM- but the implication of it all)

BYe.

foxinsocks · 14/08/2009 07:28

they don't care about errors like that and in their eyes you aren't real anyway, you're an internet handle!

think daftpunk's advice (rather oddly) the most sane - don't write anything you wouldn't want to say in public (easier said than done I know) and name change for anything personal. I guess that's the way to go and probably always has been.

Justine et al at MN - please talk to your lawyers about the copyright, it does explicitly state that :

'Reproduction of all or any substantial part of the contents in any form is prohibited.'which I would argue a weekly column does and

'No part of the site may be distributed or copied for any commercial purpose without express approval.' has also been breached.
