I feel really sad for Jade and her family. I would feel the same for anyone I read about or watched on TV in the same situation.

I'm also sad that I opened this thread as I've ben quite sickened by the attitudes of the mn obssessives very regular regulars.

It seems to have become a competition to see who can be the coldest/most righteous/heartless/notorious, etc poster. Certain people seem desperate to fill the shoes of some of the Moldies.

I don't actually believe what they are saying is true, it'll just help them up their little ladder.

As for 2shoes, I'm sick to death of coming on threads to see you cleaning the arses of your mn heros

what an odd post.......reported of course.
some people...........

Poppyscock · 28/02/2009 11:41

Not in the least bit odd

Ronaldinhio · 28/02/2009 11:43

It does feel mawkish and oversentimental to me. Her going to hospice was the first item on the news this morning and I think that that it OTT.

I don't think that we can or should compare deaths or the pain or loss involved but I don't think that we are suggesting that. Most of our sympathies surely would lie with the young if there were a ranking system of sympathy or an exhaustible supply.

I think it's sad for Jade and her boys but that's it for me. I'm not a stupid woman but I don't understand the endless onslaught of details about her illness.

It's fair enough to feel that way and it doesn't make me or anyone else here heartless.

2shoes · 28/02/2009 11:43

so personal attacts are ok?

fattiemumma · 28/02/2009 11:48

having had various and extensive treatment for cervical cancer the news about Jade was a bit of a shock. it bought back my own feelings at the time of diagnosis.
i felt terribly sorry for her and my heartbroke thinking of her two sons.

But i agree that this current coverage is going beynd news and instead it is delighting in getting the exclusive shots of her every moment. I dread to think of the clamour for the exclusive rights to her death shot.

it is good that so many have been touched by her story, it shows compassion. but it is not healthy to be SO affected by it.

I kjnow that Jade has courted the media in order to leave a fund for her sons. but i think that it is time to give her the dignity that she deserves, whether she realises she needs it or not.

Ronaldinhio · 28/02/2009 11:48

TBH 2shoes I didn't really understand what she meant..?

Did she mean arselicking? (If so were you using clingfilm?)
Or the ovenglove method as described yesterday

Who said mn wasn't useful eh?

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 11:55

poppy, you didn't answer my question.

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 28/02/2009 11:56

Actually. there is something faintly sinister about the Jade Goody coverage, just as there was about the Diana coverage. Mercifully, Blair is out of the way now, because otherwise that disgusting creepy fucker would have promised Goody a state funeral by now. Brown isn't quite so nauseatingly manipulative.
All this 'Cry! You heartless bastards! It;s VERY SAD!' stuff is not even really about individual dead or dying women, it's about whipping up sentimentality in order to stop people asking awkward questions, it's about inducing conformism or trying to by means of guilt-tripping people - 'If you;re not evacuatuing your bowels with sorrow you're NOT HHHHUMAN WAAAAAAH!'
The tabloid editors and the likes of Campbell and Mandelson are all creaming themselves with joy over this: the tabloids, particularly, have been gagging for a New Diana Effect for years (remember them trying to do the same with Jill Dando?).
The death of Jade Goody is sad for her and her family and friends. But it is of no fucking relevance whatsoever to anyone else.

toomanywrinkles · 28/02/2009 11:58

i am still struggling with this. So help me out if you will.

jade goody... dying with cancer and will be leaving her kids ..... it's not ok to talk or feel anything about this as we don't know her.

ojs husband..... very ill and since has died of cancer, they had kids. IIRC there were lots of tears & sad faces lots of posts of support and collections.

we don't know either of these families, so what is the difference?
why is it seen as ok to to be upset about ojs family, but not about Jade?

No Aitch it doesn't.

Well done though for displaying the backlash I said would come, any more insults?

Yes I did Aitch

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 12:05

because she's an mner and by posting she personally asked for our support, and because many of us knew her long before her husband got ill.

isuppose if jack tweedy posts on dadsnet he'll get support. or jade on here, as have other women with cancer.

i findit hard to believe that you don't see the difference between posting to the person themselves and blethering about someone on the internet. one is about their feelings, the other is all about you.

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 12:05

did you, poppy? where?

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 28/02/2009 12:05

TMW: well, because many of the posters on here had interacted with OJ even if they had not all met her in the flesh. Few if any of the slobber-crews getting all maudlin over Jade Goody have met her, or corresponded with her. Watching someone on the telly and reading about them in magazines and newspapers does not constitute a relationship, where as, to an extent at least, communicating with someone on a website does AS IT'S A TWO-WAY PROCESS.

Ronaldinhio · 28/02/2009 12:06

Also what does "she looks quite beautiful" have to do with anything

can't we even look awful in the face of death now?

ScottishMummy · 28/02/2009 12:07

ridiculous to suggest one must have experiential knowledge of something before one can have an emotional response. I dont personally know anyone serving in Army but do feel sad to read of fatality.dont know jade but can still feel sad about her situation

missyhissey · 28/02/2009 12:08

Usual clear thinking, reasoned comment from solidgold. That post says far more about you than anything/one else.

Aitch you are being deliberately obtuse

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 12:20

oh sorry, poppy, my mistake, i was getting you mixed up with pristina and her saying she just wanted to share with like-minded people etc. apologies.

Ronaldinhio · 28/02/2009 12:22

I very much understand how cancer treatment can make you look..but "quite beautiful" seems a weird thing to say.

"she's looking well" perhaps
or not commenting on how she looks seems a more appropriate response imo

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2009 12:25

ron, the OP has since explained that she may have got carried away with the title thanks to her first glass of wine in a while.

Ronaldinhio · 28/02/2009 12:28

aitch, ta!

I'm generally arsed off about it though so it's unfair to vent on here, apologies op
