Ecstacy not wose than riding a horse!

Love that comparison!

Our risk assessments of so many things are just way off - and society suffers as a result.

This puts the ecstatcy use into context anyway.

Now if we could have some similar ones about crime that would be fab!

"Love" has to be somewhere in the name.

Ecstasy Heights. Where you really love your neighbour

Monkeytrousers · 09/02/2009 13:32

We need to pitch this to a psychogeriatrician!

CoteDAzur · 09/02/2009 13:39

It would be the most fun retirement home since "Cocoon"

georgimama · 09/02/2009 13:47

I'm sure lots of things are more dangerous than taking E. Driving a car, for example.

When my son is 17 I am quite likely to pay for driving lessons. I am very unlikely to buy him a year's supply of ecstasy.

I broke my spine in a horse riding accident. So did my husband. I know of several people who have been killed in riding accidents.

I'd still rather saddle up than take an E. If I ride a horse, much like driving a car, it is an exercise of my care, skill and judgment (or not bearing in mind my rather nasty accident). If I pop an E I have no idea what I have ingested.

No ta.

The stats are just numbers. They don't encourage or discourage. They just allow individuals to weigh up their own odds, based on facts and not predjudices.

You are unlikely to buy your son a years supply of lager, but that doesn't make drinking 'wrong' just as it doesn't make ectascy wrong. Life is scary but you are best going into any choice with the facts than rhetoric.

I'd think there will be lots of teenage grandchildren frequently visiting us at Ecstasy Heights retirement home

CoteDAzur · 09/02/2009 14:16

All this talk of E vs lager/alcohol reminded me of my first night out on E. And how I told perfect strangers of my incredulity and regret for having stupidly drunk alcohol all these years!

NYE 1998 in London, private party in a small church. Oh happy days

Monkeytrousers · 09/02/2009 14:16

UQD, are you sure you don't want to put your name down??

georgimama · 09/02/2009 14:32

I didn't say taking E was wrong. I think it is stupid to take a pill which you haven't been prescribed and/or which hasn't been subject to clinical trials. I take the same attitude to St John's Wort.

Monkeytrousers · 09/02/2009 14:35

I said 'wrong' not "wrong" GiM.

georgimama · 09/02/2009 15:08

Struggling to understand what you mean, MT, genuinely bewildered.

MitchyInge · 09/02/2009 15:13

but hopefully this report will reassure parents whose children might pop the occasional pill

there is no point in overstating the dangers is there? it can be a positive experience after all, literature and the arts generally owe a lot to experimentation with drugs

Monkeytrousers · 09/02/2009 15:38

Wasn't quoting you as saying it was "wrong" .

Are you not a little bit tempted by the idea of Ecstasy Heights?

Woooozle100 · 09/02/2009 15:42

i agree riding a horse is worse than lots and lots of things. I think its fucking horrible and painful - banging yr flaps like that.. realising yr not wearing a sports bra. Think I would rather foam at the mouth and kiss complete strangers

MitchyInge · 09/02/2009 15:45

nobody should be bouncing about on a horse - sort your position out!

for avoidance of doubt am in no hurry to try E again myself although had fun on it 'in my day' but am drawn to far riskier pursuits such as horse riding of course and extreme off roading

georgimama · 09/02/2009 16:00

If I get to 80 I think Ecstasy Heights sounds very tempting indeed. Could there be gin in the cold taps?

"which hasn't been subject to clinical trials"

Some would say half a million people every weekend for the better part of a decade is a very large 'trial' in itself. No, not 'clinical', but still a very large number of people have been taking this substance over many years and you don't see mass suicides, deranged masses, or tens of thousands of deaths. Just a lot of people who continue to have a very good time. Indescribably better than drinking through the night

CoteDAzur · 09/02/2009 16:56

georgimama - Gin will be the last thing on your mind on Ecstasy Heights, I dare say

If I make it to 80 I might take up smoking again. As well as checking into Ecstasy Heights.

Sorry Cote, anecdotal evidence that half a million people have taken E every weekend doesn't cut it for me. You carry on.

georgimama · 09/02/2009 16:59

"i am sure a night dancing on e and drinking water is WAAAAY better for you than getting pissed, throwing up and eating 3am kebabs and losing control"

I'm sure it is. But I don't do that either. Honestly, I have no issue with this. Go ahead. It just seems dangerous and stupid to me.
