DJ Israel Min:Israeli Arabs Should Live In Separate State-Report

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has said Israeli Arabs should leave Israel for a Palestinian state once such a state is established, The Jerusalem Post reports on its Web site Thursday.

"My solution for maintaining a Jewish and democratic state of Israel is to have two nation-states with certain concessions and with clear red lines," Livni said. "And among other things I will also be able to approach the Palestinian residents of Israel, those whom we call Israeli Arabs, and tell them, 'your national solution lies elsewhere.'"

Livni, speaking in a meeting with Tel Aviv high school students, also hinted that kidnapped soldier Gilad Schalit could remain in the hands of Hamas in Gaza.

Oh dear, I don't think I have the energy for a thread like this!

moondog · 11/12/2008 13:43

Yes, they are vile horrible people who should now better after the shit that they have gone through.
If they stopped being so fucking awful ,the world would be a much safer and happier place. They disgust me.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/12/2008 13:45

yabu to have an opinion on something you clearly know fuck all about.

moondog · 11/12/2008 13:45

Never stoped you in the past Primark.

AMIStletoekiss · 11/12/2008 13:48

Yes, they are extremely racist, and have even less excuse for it than anyone else would.

Why exactly should "Israeli Arabs" who have lived there for many generations be treated as second-class citizens in their own country?

suzywong · 11/12/2008 13:52

has this thing kicked off yet?

ComeAndSeeMyBaubles · 11/12/2008 13:53

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/12/2008 13:53

ilovemydog · 11/12/2008 13:54

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/12/2008 13:56

seriously, Moondog. wtf?

bobthebuddha · 11/12/2008 13:57

if these 'vile horrible people' 'stopped being so fucking awful' moondog, I suspect you and many others would have to cast around for another simplistic reason why the world isn't a safe and happy place.

CoteDAzur · 11/12/2008 13:58

DevilWearsPrimark - You have no idea what I know on the subject, which I assure you is plenty. In fact, if you hang around and promise to be civil, I would be happy to prove this to you.

Okay, fair enough. I just wondered why the thread title which is clearly provocative, and on a sensitive issue?

CoteDAzur · 11/12/2008 14:00

Livni has been Foreign Minister of Israel for a few years now.

She is also the designated Acting Prime Minister of Israel.

ilovemydog · 11/12/2008 14:02

Wow - fighting talk from the Kadima leader.

CoteDAzur · 11/12/2008 14:03

Thread title isn't provocative, unless you have a very sensitive open wound on the subject. Do you? Is that why you came out hissing with the f-words?

I do feel it is racist to expect people of a certain ethnic group to disappear from one's country. I asked AIBU. If you feel this POV is indeed unreasonable, say why. In a civil manner, if at all possible.

Given their long history of persecution, you can see why some of the Jewish people react in this way, but IMHO the opinions of some Israeli Jews, often including those in power are regularly racist, dangerous and not helpful for the stability of the Middle East.

AuraofDora · 11/12/2008 14:05

i agree with moondog and would add the state of israel has created ghettos for the palestians, er in their own land wtf

they leave them without the right to move around, work, basic amenities, and hope..and are surprised when they retaliate
dont they remember the warsaw ghetto?

the fact that they cannot see the irony of this situation never fails to amaze me

nor that they realise they are the architects of their own precarious situation

the fact that the rest of the world allows it to happen completely floors me

ilovemydog · 11/12/2008 14:10

Yes, it's racist - replace Palestinian with any other race/nationality:

"My solution for maintaining a Jewish and democratic state of Israel is to have two nation-states with certain concessions and with clear red lines," Livni said. "And among other things I will also be able to approach the Palestinian residents of Israel, those whom we call Israeli Arabs, and tell them, 'your national solution lies elsewhere.'"

CoteDAzur · 11/12/2008 14:11

moondog - I can't say I understood what you were trying to say (except perhaps to brand me "anti-semite"?) but assuming you agree with Livni:

Would you then say that now that there is an autonomous Kurdistan within Iraq, Turkey should expel all Kurds within its borders? Even if they have Turkish citizenship?

I know you have lived in Eastern Turkey, so would appreciate that the two situations are quite comparable - Kurdish separatist terrorist organization PKK has been killing Turks for decades (30,000+ dead and counting), with tacit support of Kurds in Eastern Turkey.

How about it? Would you say Turkey should kick all Kurds out since there have a place of their own now?

Racist or not I find that quote from Livni extremely chilling. The Israeli Arabs have been there for generations.

This idea is so nutty I wouldn't worry too much, if it wasn't for the fact that Israel does pretty much what it wants with impunity.

bobthebuddha · 11/12/2008 14:14

Plenty of Israelis see the irony Aura, and with great clarity. But the likes of the really vicious comments from moondog lead people to believe that all Israelis (and more and more people equate Jew with Israeli these days) are 'vile horrible people'. It's just wrong. I'd be more than a fool to argue that everything thos in power do is either right or necessary but those kind of comments are becoming more open, more frequent and quite frankly, more scary. The implication is they're to blame for everything that's wrong in the world.

donnie · 11/12/2008 14:19

no, not unreasonable. Israel is indeed a deeply racist state. They continue to occupy stolen land and are building illegal settlements as we speak.Their relentless persecution of Palestinians is abominable but they get away with it because they can shout 'anti semite' at anyone who dares criticise. They think it is ok for them to steal Palestinian farmland and take the livelihoods of poor farmers.

I posted a link a while back from the BBC which reported a UN ambassador describing them as 'the new Nazis'. I agree with him.

But we have had this debate before - maybe someone can be bothered to dig up the old 'Israel - when will the west do something?' threads.
