It's NOT being compared to rape!

YOUR LOGIC re her right to privacy are being compared to MISOGYNISTS' LOGIC re 'grey areas' in rape.

FFS. How many times?

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 12:36

And they're calling us thick.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 12:36

I'm an enforcer?
HA! what on earth is she then??

Of course a prostitute doesn't lose the right to consent but this wasn't rape was it?

A man had a contract with Radio2 to appear on RB's show. He didn't turn up, so RB&JR called him. Stupid comments were made about his granddaughter (the self-titled Slut, I didn't give her that name SHE did).

"this is utter balls. on your logic, VS, only those who qualify as morally stainless are entitled to be protected from this sort of crap. so who gets to decide who qualifies? I once stole a choccie biccie, does that mean jonathan ross can phone my mum and regale her with embarrssing details about my sex life?"

Details? he said 'he fucked your granddaughter' they later made reference to it being consensual. SHE gave the details, to The Sun. What I'm saying is not that only those morally stainless should be protected but that it's hypocritical to make your living out of mockery and sex and then complain that someone else targets you with mockery and sex!

izyboy · 31/10/2008 12:36

oh sod it - 'It aint half hot Mum?' Anyone? 'Love thy neighbour?'Benny Hill' anyone????? 'Cos that's what we will all be watching if the DM is allowed to define our humour!

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 12:40

no, you miss the point izyboy. RB and JR are the logical extension of precisely those forms of humour.

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 12:41

FFS VS who cares about what she is?

So she's an enforcer so it's OK that you're one?

D'you see the weakness in that line of argument?

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 12:42

which is why no-one should be fooled into thinking that we must choose between the DM OR JR/RB. It would be far closer to the truth to say that they are on a political continuum, and that we must judge each on their particulars in each instance.

izyboy · 31/10/2008 12:42

As I have said before onebat humour is subjective - in your eyes you see them as a logical extention of sexist humour. For others it is puerile but only that.

I didn't say I was one, you did.

D'you not see that it's hypocritical to make your living out of mockery and sex and then complain that someone else targets you with mockery and sex!(which you then go on to use to make more money out of sex)

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 12:44

'Taunt with obscenities' LOL
Get off the bandwagon. Have you actually heard the interview?

I am not all that interested in her reaction or her actions.

I am interested in teh wider debate about why sexism and mysogyny is considered perfectly acceptable humour by the BBC, othe media and a large section of society.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 12:48

Quite LB. And in why some women get SO UPSET when this is pointed out to them.

Anyway, my children are looking very.. thin. I should go.

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 12:51

And FFS to say that Andrew Sachs, an actor who appeared in - how many episodes of Fawlty Towers were there? 12? can't remember - made his living as a racist is such a load of shit. He was an actor. He is best known for playing Manuel. But he did not make his living from it, he did other stuff, as most actors do.

Whereas making your living as a sexist - now that would be OK, wouldn't it.

darkpunk · 31/10/2008 12:54

fucking feminists... only happy paying the license fee for material that doesn't sexually humiliate women and their bloody grandfathers.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 12:58

I haven't at any point, said what they did was ok. Just that it has been blown out of proportion.

Ewe · 31/10/2008 12:59

Apparently there were just two complaints about it. One of whom was obviously and "outraged Daily Mail reader" and it has spiralled completely out of control from there.

darkpunk · 31/10/2008 13:01

any woman that's in a band called "satanic sluts" doesn't need any help in humiliation from RB & JR..... and you know it!

izyboy · 31/10/2008 13:01

swc have you seen any Monty Python films? He worked with John Cleese - I really dont think Andrew S is as shockable as his GD makes out.

izyboy · 31/10/2008 13:03

No darkpunk but she probably gave RB plently of 'humiliation' during their 'brief affair' (ok, ok puerile humour alert)

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 13:03

thank you for your critique on the granddaughter darkpunk. Now what is your critique re the mysogynt the BBC presents as cutting edge humour?

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 13:03

it's not ABOUT whether he's shockable! It's about whether he wants the details of his gd's private sexual life left on his answering machine, and then broadcast to the bloody nation!
