The Satanic Sluts were mentioned on the previous week's show, I think, but not in such detail, and I suspect that's what she was linking to, not the following week's show.
Either way, she's irrelevant. Who she is, or how she's handling it, doesn't matter. The fact that they said and did all that is an indication of what's now acceptable as entertainment, and this sucks. It's unpleasant, and discourages respectful behaviour towards anyone.
And now I'd just like to talk about the Daily Mail. I loathe it, and always have done. It's not the only paper I dislike. I generally have what I consider a pretty healthy wariness of anything I read in print, not least because I write for a living myself and know how easy it is to put a spin on something. The Daily Mail did not tell me to think this was a nasty peice of so-called comedy, I thought it myself, ta very much.
I do understand what people are cross about. I do myself think the reaction's got a bit out of proportion. But I do think that the public should voice their concerns over unpleasant stuff like this. And this isn't the only thing, actually. Someone asked in an earlier post about whether it was okay for people who'd slept with Brand to take their experiences to the tabloids (or something like that). Well, no, it's not. I think it's pretty disgusting that some young women seem to be all but making a career out of this these days. There are so many ways in which it's become okay to disrespect your fellow-man/woman these days, that it makes me feel tired.
Don't know what the answer is. But I don't think it hurts to censure (not censor) the people who have an audience, an influence, esp. on younger people (like myself ).
