izyboy · 31/10/2008 13:05

I hope you've not got anywhere to go dp 'cos you're gonna be here a while

izyboy · 31/10/2008 13:05

onebat I can hear your kids pleading for food...

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 13:06

i think the whole concept of being a grandparent and therefore unworldly is bizarre but that is a mdeia thing

they use it very frequetntly in a reverse situation grandmother moons at policeman etc

it is another irritating media angle

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 13:09

ZIPPI!!!!!!!

I am NOT saying that he is unworldly, I am saying that, like each and every one of us, I doubt he would like to a member of his family sexually humiliated/.

You're ight izyboy. I am a moth to a (particularly illogical, as they go) flame, but I must. go.

Though I am intrigued by Zippi's polcieman-mooning grandma angle, which I'd not previoiusly encoutnred.

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 13:10

you may not be but the media angle is that grandparent equals unworldly

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 13:13

do women who are not feminists appreciate being used to make a feminist argument

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 13:16

???? so now feminism is being abusive?? using women w/out their consent?

darkpunk · 31/10/2008 13:16

ok, if my gd was in a band called satanic sluts..& was hanging out with RB..i would guess she wasn't little miss innocent.. wouldn't you?

as for the broadcast going out....it was at 10.30pm...only 2 people complained until the daily mail got hold of it....and then all the dm readers who hate JR & RB because they earn loads of money...jump on the bandwagon...and that's what this is all about..MONEY....do you really think the 40,000 people who complained really care about andrew sacs gd's reputation??... like fuck they do..

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 13:17

She wasn't humiliated. She didn't care, she LINKED IT on her myspace. She didn't give a fig until she was told to.

izyboy · 31/10/2008 13:17

I think that in viewing the debacle as a big unnecessary HooHa it is infact taking a logical overview as opposed to trying to tie the situation down to a narrow argument.

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 13:17

lol

bloomin eck man

jumpingbeans · 31/10/2008 13:17

Darkpunk, you little mind reader you.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/10/2008 13:22

you lot are all bonkers about this

I'm still going to await the ofcom report as to whether the show was sanctioned or not, and all the finer details. Daft not to really.

Any employer has a duty to invoke disciplinary procedures when there is a complaint of, or, it is considered that an act of gross misconduct has occurred. The BBC is an employer and is subject to the same Employment Laws as anyone else.

So, we shall see.

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 13:23

I don't hate JR and RB because they earn lots of money.

I don't even hate them.

I hate aspects of their mysogynist comedy, but no more than all the other mysogynist comedy that the BBC broadcasts and then pretends is cutting edge.

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 13:24

LOL and be afraid, be very afraid, I have fed children and made vampire cloak in between all this arguing. And hemmed a pair of trousers.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 13:25

All I managed was lunch and a cupasoup.
Must. Try. Harder.

zippitippitoes · 31/10/2008 13:26

well in that case you need to be whipping a frenzy more often and making your views known

there is history for this mary whitehouse was very good in her day

you could do the same for the feminism angle

VeniVidiVickiQV · 31/10/2008 13:28

cutting edge = near the knuckle

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 31/10/2008 13:29

I'm with zippi and VS.

Don't worry VS a few days ago I said that anyone who put a picture of themselves in bondage gear on their myspace page should expect to get attention of a sexual nature. I would assume actually that they would want it, otherwise why would you project that image of yourself. That was then equated to women being deserving of rape or some other such nonsense.

I find JR quite funny (haven't watched enough of RB to know). Never really noticed overt misogyny.

GB's career does seem rather centered around sex

Satanic Sluts Extreme 'Hello perverts'. Promoters who would be interested in booking us.Decent bands who would like to throw us in the back of their van/bus and make us perform disgusting acts on stage or do the same on camera along to one of their tracks."

She'll do rather well - career wise out of RB and JR acting like overgrown schoolboys. Good luck to her. I think to suggest she has been 'publically humilated' is going too far really. Her grandfather maybe.

Beachcomber · 31/10/2008 13:30

I think it is only the fact that Gerogina whatshername is less well known than the likes of JR and RB that stops HER being criticised for misogyny and lots of others 'isms'

Agree their 'joke' was crap, unfunny and offensive and that the BBC shouldn't be airing stuff like this with regards to being vigilant about sexism. But the fact is the BBC gives plenty of airtime to crap unfunny offensive material.

Whole thing has been blown up to ridiculous proportions.

What is pissing me off now is that I really don't think that the BBC has taking the action they have because they give a shit about sexism but because they have to be seen to be doing something. There is no proper debate by them about how this sort of stuff is offensive and indeed they would be on shaky ground if they did try to open up that discussion as they would have to take a look at so much of the other material they air.

They have taken action because the baying masses have gone and searched out something they heard on the internet might be offensive to them. Said masses have now come over all offended and made a fuss. BBC has to be seen to be doing something,

The whole thing is ridiculous and I can't understand the amount of airtime it is getting on what should be serious news programmes.

Even worse, I have cracked my resolve to not get involved in this nonsense and am commenting on MN about it!

MoChan · 31/10/2008 13:36

The Satanic Sluts were mentioned on the previous week's show, I think, but not in such detail, and I suspect that's what she was linking to, not the following week's show.

Either way, she's irrelevant. Who she is, or how she's handling it, doesn't matter. The fact that they said and did all that is an indication of what's now acceptable as entertainment, and this sucks. It's unpleasant, and discourages respectful behaviour towards anyone.

And now I'd just like to talk about the Daily Mail. I loathe it, and always have done. It's not the only paper I dislike. I generally have what I consider a pretty healthy wariness of anything I read in print, not least because I write for a living myself and know how easy it is to put a spin on something. The Daily Mail did not tell me to think this was a nasty peice of so-called comedy, I thought it myself, ta very much.

I do understand what people are cross about. I do myself think the reaction's got a bit out of proportion. But I do think that the public should voice their concerns over unpleasant stuff like this. And this isn't the only thing, actually. Someone asked in an earlier post about whether it was okay for people who'd slept with Brand to take their experiences to the tabloids (or something like that). Well, no, it's not. I think it's pretty disgusting that some young women seem to be all but making a career out of this these days. There are so many ways in which it's become okay to disrespect your fellow-man/woman these days, that it makes me feel tired.

Don't know what the answer is. But I don't think it hurts to censure (not censor) the people who have an audience, an influence, esp. on younger people (like myself ).

I certainly don;t think she deserves everything she gets, but having seen her online presence (have you seen her webpages Dittany) I'm not surprised that some men would make a misjudgment and assume that she would be up for some ribbing about sex.

Didn't hear the Chris Moyles discussion (can't bear the man) so have no idea whether it was totally tasteless or not.
