bbc

As soon as they mentioned that the horses had died it sounded as if a third party must have done it all.

Poor lass

The last news I heard said only one body has been identified as the mother leaving father and daughter unaccounted for. There was also a report that the mother had recently inherited £1.5m

Interesting that the animals had been shot first. Someone who cared that they should not suffer? Or to prevent them making a noise that would raise the alarm?

spicemonster · 31/08/2008 19:54

How do they know the animals were shot 1st? Maybe they were shot after? Maybe it was the daughter who went on a crazy rampage and is right now sipping champagne in Monaco?

Who knows?

I think there's going to be lots of stuff here that we are never going to know ...

expatinscotland · 31/08/2008 19:55

very true, spice.

there's always stuff you never know. and truth is often stranger than fiction.

The gun was found near the two bodies, so I think they probably just assume it was the peole killed last, rather than the animals.

expatinscotland · 31/08/2008 20:02

a rifle was found near the bodies.

forensics still to determine if it's the gun used to shoot Jill Foster.

all in the name of greed sadly

tortoiseshell · 31/08/2008 20:09

At risk of joining the 'MN detective squad'...

One report said he was having an affair - ergo marriage was in difficulty.

What if he had been out, came home, found wife with another man, shot them both with rifle, went on rampage round house, shot animals, burnt house, took daughter and fled the country?

But pure speculation. I'd just like a scenario where the daughter could be ok really.

tortoiseshell · 31/08/2008 20:09

(Given that the other body hasn't been identified, is just described as 'male')

WendyWeber · 31/08/2008 20:12

My Miss Marple reckons somebody (or somebodies) got into the house while the family was out, then confronted him when they got in, & prob used his gun to do all the shooting (there won't be any fingerprints after that fire, will there?)

(And I don't even watch TV detectives. Saddo.)

Where is the daughter though? I am very worried about her.

WW - that couldn't be possible, because the daughter was on the computer till 1am or so.

WendyWeber · 31/08/2008 20:14

Well it is a very big house, someone could easily hide away for a while.

tortoiseshell · 31/08/2008 20:15

I guess. I'm not going to speculate - it's all too horrible.

intolerant · 31/08/2008 20:16

Or it could be murder, plain and simple, by persons as yet unknown. They may yet find another body. Does sound like he'd made some enemies along the way. Doesn't mean he's greedy/a flipped psycho or anything else that's been suggested here. What would be the point of anyone else kidnapping the daughter if both parents, who presumably would have been needed to pay the ransom, were dead?
Horrid business.....

beanieb · 31/08/2008 20:19

If it is kidnap - who are they expecting to get a ransom from now?

I'd say the daughter is likely to be in another part of teh house if she was in her room on the internet.

It is a tragic story, though very intriguing. I'm not sure if it was him or not. Find it very hard to beleiev someone could do that to much loved family animals and his wife and daughter.

spicemonster · 31/08/2008 20:45

I find it weird that they went to a barbecue when if he did it, it was obviously pre-meditated. You don't just snap and kill your family and pets and THEN barricade yourself in and set fire to your house in 3 different places. That's pre-meditated
