Margaret Thatcher to be given state funeral.

Is this true? because the Daily Mail reported it so obviously I need something more reliable than that

Last year Guardian reported 'there were no plans' for a state funeral.

Anyone heard this from anywhere other than the DM?

Re. Thatcher's legacy - the thing is, I think it (marketisation, privatisation, decline of manufacturing/primary industries and organised labour, decreases in investment in the welfare state etc etc) would have happened anyway. It's been a powerful trend in the developed world over the last few decades and I don't think the UK would have escaped it. Had we not had Thatcher, we might have carried out in the same vein for a while, but sooner or later we would have had to make the adjustment - it's happening now in European countries that avoided it in the 80s and 90s.

This is not to say that I personally agree with any of these trends, but they are the logical conclusion of rampant capitalism, which is the system to which we've signed up.

Oh i havent read everything posted but just sat here and went oh wow maggies pegged it - has she my hubby asked - ermmmm no as i opened the thread up!! Anyhow is she really going to have one when the time comes and does that mean we get a bank holiday or a day off if its a week day ? im all for it if thats the case!
