Is this true? because the Daily Mail reported it so obviously I need something more reliable than that

Last year Guardian reported 'there were no plans' for a state funeral.

Anyone heard this from anywhere other than the DM?

Just looked at link....how very morbid...

Wonder how pm and queen brought up the issue with her...

Must say she looks nearly dead in the picture...could just be the lighting on her face tho...

pluto · 15/07/2008 22:08

Would we get a day off work?

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/07/2008 22:09

She looked fine when I saw her at Buckingham Palace last week. A little more frail than last year, but not bad for her age.

WendyWeber · 15/07/2008 22:27

She's still doing that infuriating royal wave anyway

elkiedee · 15/07/2008 23:20

There's a Facebook group called Street Party When Thatcher Dies.

donnie · 16/07/2008 14:35

well I think the burial teams should go on strike at the precise moment of her expiration. How deliciously poetic that would be.

chocolatedot · 16/07/2008 15:37

Am I the only one who finds it mighty strange how reviled Mrs T is and yet The Labour Government haven't reversed a single one of her major policies?

WendyWeber · 16/07/2008 21:31

They've taken railtrack back, haven't they?

Sim43 · 16/07/2008 21:38

Christ she wasn't that bloody bad was she? Poor woman, not dead yet and discussing funeral.

WendyWeber · 16/07/2008 21:51

State funerals don't just happen overnight, Sim. The QM's was widely discussed beforehand(including by her, afaik)

Possibly it's been revealed now so they can get an idea of just how the idea will be received...

Sim43 · 16/07/2008 22:06

Yes I know the QM was called Operation Tay Bridge and was planned for years. Wouldn't expect to see it in the paper though!

WendyWeber · 16/07/2008 22:20

It was def reported that she knew all about it though...the subject wasn't taboo.

(We're all going some time, even Maggie )

Sim43 · 16/07/2008 22:26

Bless her! Goodnight to all.

S1ur · 17/07/2008 21:19

Bless her??????

Bless that brutal, vindictive, selfish woman?
Bless her for closing hospitals, cutting benefits, cutting nursery provision, increasing unemployment, selling off the council houses, widening the gap between rich and poor?
Bless her posionous and divisive legacy?

Er, no.

i think they should bury her at sea, near the belgrano

WilfSell · 17/07/2008 21:26

On Mock the Week just now, the Scottish guy, Frankie Boyle:

"3 million quid? they should spend that giving everyone in Scotland a shovel, and we'd dig a hole so deep, we could hand her over to Satan personally..."

Rhubarb · 17/07/2008 21:32

iBundle · 17/07/2008 21:34

i too, got overstimulated when i saw this

Rhubarb · 17/07/2008 22:09

Doh! Cancel the champers.

Threadwworm · 17/07/2008 22:12

Apparently the whole thing was a misunderstanding. What was actually proposed was a stake funeral.

I.e., through the heart, just in case.

HumphreyCushioni · 17/07/2008 22:13

Or an estate funeral.
They have to plan it years in advance in order to find somwhere that still has enough council houses in one place.

S1ur · 17/07/2008 22:19

at TW & HC

Or possibly an ultimate insult to the woman who tried to dismantle the state.

She is in fact to be given a 'state' funeral funded by taxes and overseen by public sector workers
