Why are they all shouting "Shame on You" towards the police - when it was the RNLI who brought them all to shore?

Surly they should be shouting this towards the lifeboat crews....?

At the end of March 2026, there were 87,450 asylum cases waiting in the First-tier Tribunal for an appeal outcome.
And the latest reporting today says the number of asylum appeals waiting to be heard had reached 90,341 by the end of June 2026.

The average wait for an asylum appeal is now roughly 67–72 weeks, depending on the measure/source.

It does not mean open borders, which was the discussion.

Ok it is possible to do capped, vetted and safe but it’d require a vote away from some international laws, or everyone could be returned to France if Bardella gets in and Le Pen agrees.

hedgeknight · 10/09/2026 19:41

ShitHoleDweller · 10/09/2026 19:34

We have enough people in the country right now who are going through the asylum process. We do not need any more.

Better dust off your balaclava then.

TheOnlyWayIsIlford · 10/09/2026 19:10

You have no evidence for any of this. You are making it up to justify the behaviour of masked protestors.

Wanting people safely brought into the system - where people are frequently sent back - 40,000 enforced last year, and 8% increase on the Tories' record - to be assessed and verified.

(oh, and that is in addition to those who choose to leave the country - another 640,000)

Wanting the Gvt to safely manage the system is not wanting vulnerable people attacked etc.

The Foreign Office needs to put pressure on France to arrest, charge, convict, and jail the human traffickers in France. The French, like us, have international treaty obligations to combat human trafficking. It's the traffickers who are selling more places than the boat can safely hold.

I want immigration controlled, if only to keep out the likes of Varg Vikernes. But I also think that calling open borders "carnage" is hyperbolic and completely tone-deaf when you consider how many have died trying to get here.

Makkka · 10/09/2026 19:45

iwishitwouldstartraining · 10/09/2026 18:29

I think some people just want a fight.

Not at all. It seems to be you who wants a fight. You’re not interested in any debate or discussion or other opinions, you just keep bringing everything back to the same thing as if nothing else can be spoken about in relation.

I’m not sure the people who are driving it are in France. The people selling crossings / on the beach will be low down the pecking order and easily replaceable.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/09/2026 18:31

I'm not the thread police but...
The initial post on this thread asked specifically about the RNLI.

If you want to start a thread saying AIBU to think that people coming on small boats should just be left to drown then you may - but this thread is about the reaction to the RNLI.
Asking people not to 'keep bringing it back to the RNLI' is really a bit daft.

Edited

But it’s absolutely relevant to have further discussion about the whys and how’s. We’ve already said it’s awful what happened so is that it, no further discussion allowed?

It would keep me safe on the streets at least.

ShitHoleDweller · 10/09/2026 19:52

If I were going to be charitable I would hope there is a huge multi-country, multi-agency investigation going on right now that’s going to end the people trafficking and a lot of people are going to get locked up for a very long time. That might be why key figures are just keeping quiet on it.

Makkka · 10/09/2026 19:53

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 10/09/2026 19:13

Or I could just be calling Makkka out on her hyperbole of using the word "carnage" inappropriately.

Absolutely nothing inappropriate about using the word carnage describing a world with open borders.

ShitHoleDweller · 10/09/2026 19:28

You believe it’s a well known phrase because of your social media activity. Those of us who exist in the real world and talk to average, ordinary people have not a clue what you’re on about.

Google exists. Try using it, if you sincerely don't know what a straw man fallacy is. But I think you know full-well what it means.

Your faux "one of the people" act is nothing new, straight out of the Farage playbook, and I see straight through it.

It's also patronising to the working class you pretend to speak for to pretend that Joe Public doesn't know what long words mean. Working class people have a long history of valuing education and culture, as attested to by the Miners' Welfare Halls found in pit villages all over the North that ran and still run evening classes, reading groups, choirs, and dramatic societies.

Stopping the boats by offering refugees a safe routes to claim asylum is nothing like 'open borders'

Who said they disagreed with a safe route? I certainly didn’t. Have a safe route in France but only those with a genuine case can come here

Two sets of rescue vessels did not coordinate a transfer. They coordinated a rescue.

  1. The French cannot abandon their rescue offer and return to port under international maritime law. They are able to rescue the dinghy's occupants if it sinks, so they have to stand by in case it does.
  2. With the dinghy approaching British waters, the French have a moral and legal obligation to notify the RNLI.
  3. The RNLI turn up to the dinghy, as expected because this is literally what they exist to do.

The human traffickers take advantage of these intermeshing principles to get the asylum seekers into the UK.

This doesn't make the RNLI a taxi service, just as a shoplifter taking advantage of store staff being trained not to chase them doesn't make LIDL into a pay-as-you-feel food bank.

This is factually incorrect. If you refuse help after requesting a rescue at sea, the rescuer does not have to wait around and can return to port if you are refusing assistance.

I’m afraid it can’t be stopped as the demand is too high and the laws are there for movement of people.

They’d stop if the laws were changed in the same way traffickers in Albania pretty much gave up selling routes to the UK after the law changed.

For one of those boats to go from "boat-shaped" to "collapsed with crushed people in the middle" is a matter of seconds. That's the immediate life endangerment.

You also don't have a competent master on these things.

Oh for god sake. I’m well known on here for supporting Kemi with her campaign to replace Andy. I couldn’t give a shit about any of the R parties or their dodgy dealings and the fact all your tribe can do is accuse people with political differences of supporting Reform or being a Nazi shows your severe lack of imagination.

Tell me about your straw man phrase. I assume it’s nothing to do with scarecrows/harvest festival.

Behave!

Some people want a world with open borders and if that were to happen then there wouldn’t be any need for risky sea crossings because everyone would be free to go anywhere, so your point is illogical and doesn’t even make sense!

If the asylum seekers are seeking asylum from persecution then why do they need to travel from
France to the UK to do this. Why don't they just stay in France?

I thought France was a relatively safe country or do you believe otherwise?

Its almost as if there is an ulterior motive to come to the UK other than seeking asylum.

Straw-manning is a well understood term.

You can't defend lying about me, so you attack my choice of words.

This is a photo of you.

I'm annoyed that MNHQ deleted the post I was replying to there.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant and it was informative to see how dishonest posters twist a single line into a screed of nonsense.

Actually that policy is not working out too well in Germany in practice. Convicted Syrian criminals in Germany are simply refusing to go back to Germany and are supported in this by various German refugee groups.

They are just refusing to obey the law.
