Why are they all shouting "Shame on You" towards the police - when it was the RNLI who brought them all to shore?

Surly they should be shouting this towards the lifeboat crews....?

98.8% of RNLI call outs have nothing to do with Channel crossings.

So abusing and doxxing them seems, at best, counterproductive - at worst it seems like a soft target for thugs.

They are an emergency service staffed by volunteers and deserve our respect.

'Ordinary Folk' are not furious with the RNLI.

People who. have been whipped up into a frenzy by scammers are furious with the RNLI.

Ordinary folk are irritated with the RNLI, but not furious. Agreed.

hedgeknight · 10/09/2026 13:50

These ordinary folk are using violence to intimidate ordinary people and they don't even have the guts to show their faces.

Reform/Restore and whatever other Re

Do you think shouting outside an emerency worker's house is funny, throwing in windows is funny. Legitimate concerns is it?

You seem extremely angry.

iwishitwouldstartraining · 10/09/2026 14:00

I'm thinking more of a Walking Dead/The Last of Us Scenario. The writers of those shows definitely assume a wide spread abandonment of civilised moral principles.

However, the RNLI were founded in 1824 and as a country we have had plenty of ups and downs since then. I don't think we need to abandon all hope for civilisation just yet.

So Zombie apocalypse maybe. Nuclear fallout and everyone is stumbling about slowly dying of radiation. Yeah I don’t think anyone is going to be lobbing bricks at RNLI volunteers in that state.

Not extremely but I am angry at what those thugs were doing.

And you seem extremly good at down playing what happened in Portsmouth.

Money is spent on the poorest people in the country, hence all the benefit bashing and moaning about universal credit, PIP, etc.

I know that, but it’s difficult enough for the poorest without feeling the injustice of their own government seemingly helping other people and not them. If they can’t heat their homes or find decent accommodation then it’s not good

Not at all. It’s just interesting how far removed many of you are from what I believe is the morale of the country.

Many of you have this perception that it’s a tiny proportion of the country that is intolerant of immigration. I would concor that this tiny minority forced Brexit with those views, voted in 14 years of conservatives with those views and once labour are out, will sweep in a right/hard right collation in with those views. Let’s see.

The morale of the country is agains emergency workers helping people in need?

Taken your username at face value, is your town/city a shit hole because of small boats?

iwishitwouldstartraining · 10/09/2026 14:20

Makkka · 10/09/2026 13:48

Tommy Robinson hasn’t been mentioned by me so irrelevant to this chat currently.

Your second paragraph is somewhat contradictory, because on the one hand it seems you’re acknowledging that the small boats are considered a problem, according to wider society (and I agree with you there) yet at the same time you’re arguing against the reasons some have given for not wanting them here……

Another poster summed it up well, people want their own to be looked after first above and beyond anyone especially during hard times. They want their family and friends and their communities to flourish as a priority and that’s generally a universal way

Edited

It's completely relevant to the conversation which is about the activity in Portsmouth and attacks on the RNLI.

I am arguing against people attacking the RNLI. Obviously nobody should be attempting to cross the channel on an overcrowded dinghy and nobody should be people trafficking.

The amount of money currently spent on asylum seekers could be used to increase benefits or cut taxes but it's not enough to make a difference to the overall picture. That doesn't mean that management can't be improved, and numbers crossing the channel have fallen.

And who is doing the 'looking after' in this scenario? It strikes me that the RNLI do much more 'looking after' than most people, but are getting huge amounts of abuse. My granny, who lived through 2 world wars would call this 'unchristian'. But then she had British values.

No, I think a tiny proportion of the country is tolerant of people abusing the RNLI.

Does this not suggest to you that sorting out immigration might be quite complicated, and abusing RNLI crew members is not going to help anyone?

No RNLI worker should ever be verbally or physically attacked that’s disgusting behaviour. Most people I know personally who want the government to restrict the boats have no time for TR, in fact I rarely hear his name mentioned these days and even parties like Reform don’t associate with him. I thought he was in prison until last night!

The attempt to shift the conversation to a wider conversation about immigration is odd.

You could believe that everyone claiming asylum should be deported to Rwanda on arrival and still think that the RNLI should save lives and not face abuse.

i think the conservatives attempted to come up with a plan to try and tackle it latterly, that got vetoed by Labour. I think the RNLI is collateral damage in an organised people trafficking crime wave.

Yes it is that last line. The RNLI and French equivalent are just responding to a system that is trafficking for vast profits.

Yes, the Conservatives had a majority for 12 years.

By their own statement, the RNLI was only involved with channel crossings 109 times, 1.2% of their total rescue work.

If they are 'collateral damage' is is because of Tommo and his thugs. And people justifying it.

I think the focus on RNLI volunteers is deliberately narrow, unless the thread itself had been called something like …AIBU to think RNLI volunteers shouldn’t be targeted by anti-immigration protesters?

Its very similar to the scenes of the Red Cross vehicles being targeted by the residents of Ceuta recently during a large protest. Those charities are facilitating the ability of the migrants to stay in Ceuta by providing them with food, water, clothes and blankets. On the one hand there’s a charity providing humanitarian help, on the other there’s the settled community screaming at them to stop so those people will be forced to leave.

iwishitwouldstartraining · 10/09/2026 14:28

The Conservatives had a majority.

Labour stopped the Rwanda policy after winning the 2024 general election, but there’s an important distinction about how it was stopped.

  • The Conservative government had passed the Safety of Rwanda (Asylum and Immigration) Act 2024 in April 2024 and was preparing for removal flights.
  • Labour won the election on 4 July 2024.
  • In July 2024, the new Labour government discontinued the Rwanda removal policy and redirected the resources towards other returns. The Home Office explicitly says this.
  • The Rwanda legislation was subsequently repealed as part of Labour’s new Border Security, Asylum and Immigration legislation.
  • Labour prevented the planned Rwanda deportation scheme from operating as intended. No asylum seekers were forcibly removed to Rwanda under the scheme.

There is a nuance, though: Labour didn’t prevent the Conservatives from creating the policy in the first place. The Conservatives got the Rwanda Act through Parliament before the election. Labour opposed it politically and voted against it, but the decisive action was Labour taking office and abandoning the scheme.

That boat refused help from France ! Of course they did as in France they get a tent in a field or a hanger.
We roll or the red carpet, tracksuits, pyjamas, boxer shorts were all waiting for them in tents they’d put up to distribute stuff along with sandwich vans waiting.
Who is paying for all that? and it is only the tip of the iceberg.
The mood is people have had enough and it’s widespread I’d say.
No ones knows who they are but most are coming from third world countries very different to ours in their outlook and behaviour especially towards women.

hedgeknight · 10/09/2026 14:39

The title is 'Portsmouth Protests' where black cladded blokes with balaclavas targetted the RNLI

Not difficult to understand the focus

ShitHoleDweller · 10/09/2026 12:13

I think that’s at the nub of this. It’s the unnecessary spending running parallel to increased taxes on working people, running parallel to increased welfare spending and EVERYTHING else rising constantly. Inflation is one of the key markers that triggers civil unrest. If prices keep going up people become increasingly less tolerant.

How do you think Hitler got in in the first place? Times were bad financially. Note that Germany have just elected a hard right party when coincidentally, times are financially not good.

Edited

Just adding and agreeing to your comment that Hitler got to power because times were economically bad.

Hitler promised to take under state control banks and industries, he wanted greater state control over education and other services to the public. He was anti capitalism. He blamed all of Germany's problems on millionaires (or billionaires as they are called today) and on Jews (or Zionists as they are called today.

Now which political party in the UK does that most closely match. I'll give you a clue that their leader is also a vegetarian like Hitler.
