Why are they all shouting "Shame on You" towards the police - when it was the RNLI who brought them all to shore?

Surly they should be shouting this towards the lifeboat crews....?

So you are saying the majority of ordinary people are so ill-informed they think the small boat crossings affect food and utility prices?

Stop being disingenuous! Imagine if the money spent on housing them, feeding them went on food tokens to help the poorest here.

As if you need to be told this but here you go… Lack of housing pushes up demand therefore prices and it’s those at the lower end of the ladder are struggling. Lucky you if you’re not!

You can argue the toss all you like as to why the ordinary people are wrong to feel that way, but it’s irrelevant whether you disagree, because that’s exactly how many of them feel. You pleading ignorance as to how they could possibly feel that way is moot. There isn’t enough money to help British people so they feel the injustice of that. It’s really not rocket science

Have you just got back from shouting at the Pakistani cricketers? Shame on YOU!

Food and utility prices have been far more affected by e.g. the wars in Ukraine and Iran, Covid, Brexit and the wider economic environment.

Empirically, it would be better if we lived in a world where the government did not have to spend any money at all on asylum seekers, and successive governments have tried to deal with the problem in various ways.

The number of people crossing the channel on small boats has fallen.

However, none of this has anything to do with the RNLI who are just trying to prevent drowning.

Maybe I should have used a single letter, X for example?

Elon?

iwishitwouldstartraining · 10/09/2026 12:11

However, you know what might have increased some people's cost of living? Giving money to convicted fraudster Tommy Robinson.

I think that’s at the nub of this. It’s the unnecessary spending running parallel to increased taxes on working people, running parallel to increased welfare spending and EVERYTHING else rising constantly. Inflation is one of the key markers that triggers civil unrest. If prices keep going up people become increasingly less tolerant.

How do you think Hitler got in in the first place? Times were bad financially. Note that Germany have just elected a hard right party when coincidentally, times are financially not good.

Again it’s irrelevant what anyone on here says and believes, I’m pointing out what and why the ordinary struggling person thinks the way they do and why they view it such.

I never mentioned it being about the RNLI I was referring to why people have the views they do

So it is at times like this that it is more important than ever to hold on to our humanity.

The RNLI saved German airman from drowning in the both the first and second world wars.

How can you tell who is ordinary or struggling on an anonymous forum?

hedgeknight · 10/09/2026 12:32

The Nazis used propoganda and misinformation with great success.

We are now at the point where the RNLI advises volunteers to remove badges in public

If you go back to my initial post, I was replying to someone else who was suggesting ordinary people were ill informed if they believed boat crossings affect utilities and bills etc……

I was pointing out why they could come to that conclusion and gave examples. It’s nothing to do with knowing who is an ‘ordinary’ person on this thread, it’s explains why some people come to the conclusion they do.

Unlike on MN, in real life many people are fed up with the small boat crossings and want them stopped. Again whether some on here think they are wrong, is irrelevant because it’s one of the main issues the public want sorted.

Port1aCastis · 10/09/2026 12:46

And as a result of thuggery and violence happening outside we're now having to have new glass in our window and dh is thinking of resigning
I've been in tears this morning as this abuse is not fair and all because of a loud mouth on Facebook. This is our home so I wish these evil rats who are too cowardly to show their faces would leave us alone.

hedgeknight · 10/09/2026 12:54

I am so sorry to hear that @Port1aCastis

And still people justify these thugs' actions.

Notonthestairs · 10/09/2026 12:54

Nobody rationally thinks mobs picketing ferry terminals or abusing and doxxing RNLI volunteers achieves anything useful.

The RNLI saved German airman from drowning in the both the first and second world wars.

It’s going to depend on the interpretation of humanity. In tough times personally it’s my family and my community and my country before everything else.

For someone else in tough times it might be their religion, their family, their religious community world wide, their country of origin, their friends etc

Someone else might think to hell with people and my version
of humanity is myself, my pets, my friends and to screw everything else.

I assume you value all people and so you would prioritise every living person, then your family, then friends, then community etc.

It really is down to individual priorities.

Because those damn ordinary folk I described earlier are furious. It’s not just a tiny pocket of Reform voters I’m afraid.

🤣. A bit of shouting outside hotels just made me laugh. Yes. What’s the harm in that? One rarely leads to the other.

You might have a different point of view if you were in the hotel and hoard of people were shouting at you.

In a post apocalyptic scenario perhaps.

Happily, we aren't quite there yet.

As I said, the RNLI still managed to save drowning airmen in both world wars.

They would be ill informed, but your understanding of what 'ordinary people' think might be different to mine. I tend to give them a little more credit. I also think that most people can spot the fact that Tommy Robinson and his gang are scammers.

Unlike on MN, in real life many people are fed up with the small boat crossings and want them stopped.

You might need to get out of your bubble. Only people traffickers think small boat crossings are a good idea.

Tommy Robinson hasn’t been mentioned by me so irrelevant to this chat currently.

Your second paragraph is somewhat contradictory, because on the one hand it seems you’re acknowledging that the small boats are considered a problem, according to wider society (and I agree with you there) yet at the same time you’re arguing against the reasons some have given for not wanting them here……

Another poster summed it up well, people want their own to be looked after first above and beyond anyone especially during hard times. They want their family and friends and their communities to flourish as a priority and that’s generally a universal way

Do you think shouting outside an emerency worker's house is funny, throwing in windows is funny. Legitimate concerns is it?

Money is spent on the poorest people in the country, hence all the benefit bashing and moaning about universal credit, PIP, etc.

I'm thinking more of a Walking Dead/The Last of Us Scenario. The writers of those shows definitely assume a wide spread abandonment of civilised moral principles.

However, the RNLI were founded in 1824 and as a country we have had plenty of ups and downs since then. I don't think we need to abandon all hope for civilisation just yet.
