Anyone else following this Minneapolis daycare potential fraud story playing out in America?

Yep, what I find fascinating is how straightforward and easy a fraud it is.

You just announce that you have a daycare centre, then the government pays you to run the centre - nobody ever even comes to look at it to see if it’s real, let alone check on the welfare of the children you’re supposedly looking after.

I do think the UK has too much red tape but it’s a good reminder that inspections of schools and childcare facilities are actually needed.

It’s a suspected widespread fraud where the alleged perps have buildings that propose to be childcare centres and get millions of dollars of funding from the government. A fairly well known YouTuber who investigates scams and scammers exposed the potential fraud and all hell broke lose!

Now one of the blokes who works in one of the centres have claimed they’ve been robbed and all the documentation has been stolen. No one has seen a child in any of these places - ever. Trump is claiming Somalia is a hell hole with no army and people wondering around killing people and wants to send the Somalian community back. The democrats running the state are screaming racism but also potentially implicated in the fraud as one woman’s husband suddenly owns a company that went from zero to thirty million in one year! Federal agents have appeared and are interviewing everyone and I guess we watch this space.

It’s been every other reel on my IG today, it’s fascinating and seems amazingly widespread!

Anyone moves to another country and commits crime should expect to be deported.

I’m also seeing claims that it’s a racist attack on Somalians and that it was a holiday when the reporter showed up as the venues so therefore of course no children would be there! 🙄

Which is quite clearly desperate flailing to prevent the exposure of a situation that Trump & the GOP will/has dived on. I find it utterly fascinating that so many people are so ideologically captured that they’d rather see millions of tax payer $$$ pouring into the pockets of fraudulent chancers rather than admit there’s a massive problem amongst the Somalian diaspora in Minnesota.

A bloke with a camera crew demanding access to a children's day care centre during opening hours is not investigating journalism, neither should it be supported.

Amazing how easy it was to defraud the govt. And that governor’s increase in assets… 😩

But it’s interesting that that’s the bit you want to focus on.

My understanding is it was her husband’s business.

I’ve not followed the full story but this was the only bit I saw. A man demanding “let me see the children” funnily enough didn’t see any.

A more rigorous process to prevent any fraud seems like a more rational response rather than stopping all funding to all 50 states. That will presumably have a large impact on a huge number of working parents.

Also there are NO children there’s that’s the whole point. And it’s not just one guy showing up with a camera he was with another guy who’s been investigating the situation for years.

Ok.. but don’t you think a nationwide stopping of all childcare funding is a slight overreaction? Imagine if some nurseries here in the UK were fraudulently claiming for the free hours (I’m sure it happens, just because there’s probably fraud in most systems), and the gov stopped all free hours funding nationwide?

Minnesota invited thousands of Somalians into the state to live and it is alleged that the fraud has been perpetrated by that community which of course Trump in in raptures about.

Blimey they need to get our Ofsted and LAs over there. Sounds like their level of checks before giving out funding is pretty dismal 🤣
