I’ve obviously been entangled in an algorithm but it’s fascinating.

I'm astonished that financial checks in the US are so weak. Obviously the UK saw lots of Covid fraud but I don't think it would be possible to establish a fraudulent network of this scale here..??

It’s like ICE. People are shocked and horrified that people are being deported without a long, expensive, complicated and counterproductive series of appeals before finally being allowed to stay. They’re shocked and horrified the agents are fairly tough men who carry out their duties in a fairly rudimentary and at times combative way.

What these hand wringing, pearl clutching left wingers don’t grasp is that the USA is absolutely crawling with people so dangerous and psychopathic that it’s very hard to imagine what living on their ‘turf’ is actually like. They have entire cities lost to crystal meth, gang violence is far more common and the level of violence used is just so far beyond anything we see here in the UK. The cartel members are terrifying and make our ‘gangsters’ here look like kittens.

So good luck if you think these people can be dealt with ‘sensitively and humanely’ by ‘decent’ agents who are the equivalent of Owen Jones and Louis Theroux. It’s all very well being disgusted from 3000km away, in a nice house in Oxford or Bath, but I suggest you hop on a plane and take a quick tour of Fresno or Detroit before showing it.

The current administration is fairly hideous in many ways but I don’t blame them for wanting to take trash out in a swift, efficient way even if this means due process is deprioritised a little.

Sadly this is where you get to when left leaning administrations spend decades dithering and trying ‘gentle’ solutions which are very expensive and inefficient

'rudimentary and at times combative way.'

  • come on, you know that isn't what most people are angry about. The main concerns are excessive detention perceived to be included quite a few legal citizens, the fact that retainers are being sent to a brutal prison in El Salvador, and yes, the lack of due process

'take trash out in a swift, efficient way even if this means due process is deprioritised a little.' - 'Trash' ? Do you think all the illegal immigrants are trash? Yes there are definitely dangerous cartel members etc but many are people who have fled from war & other extreme situations & are not evil.

'the level of violence used is just so far beyond anything we see here in the UK. The cartel members are terrifying and make our ‘gangsters’ here look like kittens.' - I agree on this. You should tell that to the US & Reform politicians who want to make London out to be far more dangerous than any US city.

According to this story and also a massive increase in children being diagnosed with “autism” and claiming associated benefits and financial support - amongst the Somalian community. Here’s a link. There’s plenty more.

Why are many Somalian immigrants behaving like this? Learned helplessness?

Otoh we have a big problem with benefit fraud in UK ofc...

Quite the opposite - they are clearly highly skilled and motivated, albeit criminally. I imagine that much of the money has been sent to their families back in impoverished Somalia.

Can you tell me about 1 detainee who is absolutely innocent, legal and has done nothing wrong?

As for your last paragraph, woahhhh stretch Armstrong! Thats one hell of a reach.

Learned helplessness was more referring to the fake autism diagnoses and benefit claiming..

How many Somalians are actually running this scam? I understand there are clearly issues in their community but we shouldn't tar them all with the scammer's brush due to this case.

Are you on crack?! ICE are snatching people off the street just because of their skin colour and you seriously think any of that is ok?! The US constitution entitles every single person on American soil to due process.

We really don’t. Benefit fraud in the UK is absolutely tiny.

‘Fraud’ is deemed as things like using fake identities, or claiming pretending to be somebody else like a relative.

It doesn’t include people ‘massaging the facts’ to qualify for a benefit, which is… I think quite common.

I’m not saying I don’t believe this but I was told upthtrad that CBS wasn’t a credible source for bias (to the right!) so think the poster is looking for news source with named examples

Playingvideogames · 03/01/2026 09:12

You don’t think the ‘National Immigration Law Center’ whose aim is to (quote) ‘defend the right to seek asylum and advocate for a 21st-century immigration system that centers human dignity’ is an unbiased source?

I just want the name of 1 American citizen who has been deported for ‘not being white’. Just 1 will do.

Mark Lyttle, an American citizen with mental disabilities who was wrongfully detained and deported to Mexico and forced to live on the streets and in prisons for months, settled his case against the federal government this week.
Lyttle will receive $175,000 for the suffering he endured after being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who deported him despite ample evidence that he was a U.S. citizen.

HighStreetOtter · 03/01/2026 10:08

All told, available data shows that ICE arrested 674 potential U.S. citizens, detained 121, and deported 70 during the time frame the government watchdog analyzed.

In this instance the mother who was a Honduran citizen was being deported back to Honduras and wanted to take the child with her (I don’t blame her!!)
