Just breaking on Sky News that Brand has been charged with a number of rapes and sexual offences. Good.
I hope his victims are feeling vindicated and supported.

Donald won't be happy.

Why's that then?

That's the address of his property in the UK but he's been living in the States for a while now. He knew this was coming.

Thanks. So I guess he won't be back to the UK, then. Pity.

It took a few sentences before I realised this was a parody.

Really? Sounds just like the pretentious dribble / drivel he would come out with

PandoraSox · 04/04/2025 14:55

nasdout · 04/04/2025 14:51

We all know that

Yes, indeed. Good that we all agree that his being charged is a positive step. Such agreement is rare on MN!

samarrange · 04/04/2025 14:56

GCAcademic · 04/04/2025 14:48

This. And the odds are that he won't be convicted. Less than 3% of rape accusations result in a conviction.

The 3% figure uses the total number of reports to the police as the denominator. The conviction rate once cases get to court (as here, give or take the issue of extraditing him) is around 60% (https://www.cps.gov.uk/publication/cps-data-summary-quarter-1-2023-2024), so the odds are that he will be convicted — although that number still seems not great...

LlynTegid · 04/04/2025 14:56

I hope for the sake of those who have come forward to the police that it is not a very long time before the trial is heard in court.

TeaRoseTallulah · 04/04/2025 14:57

About time.

ifionlyhadacat · 04/04/2025 14:57

Good

nasdout · 04/04/2025 14:52

Why's that then?

Edited

As he appears to be dismissive of sex offences against women and if his talk is anything to go by, many would doubt he has not committed them himself even though no allegations have been made.

So doing a runner to the US and thinking he could pray away his disgustingness didn’t quite work out for him then 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠

According to the documentary that aired one of the assaults took place in the US if I recall. I'm assuming it is OK to mention the material in the documentary? If not, I'll ask MN to take it down.

PandoraSox · 04/04/2025 14:51

The conviction rate of rape cases that come to trial is about 53.4%, though.

Edited

Because of the quota with the 60% target meaning they NFA most on purpose to raise the conviction rate.

Drows · 04/04/2025 15:03

That Christian rebrand makes a lot more sense now.

Just what I was thinking

PerkingFaintly · 04/04/2025 15:04

Excellent news.

Though wot they all said about the need to avoid anything that would cause a mistrial. I really want him stood there in court.

Not shocked at all. He is a nasty little creep. Always found him slimy and creepy. None of this comes as any surprise to me.

Horrible for the women though. My thoughts are with them. Hope they're OK.

"“Now listen, dear interlocutors of the infinite internet ether, before the Twitterati commence their collective fulmination, allow me to elucidate this most labyrinthine of misunderstandings with my customary cocktail of linguistic gymnastics and metaphysical musing. I have, it appears, been once again ensnared in the baroque bureaucratic balderdash of institutional intrigue – a veritable Kafkaesque carnival wherein my every utterance is dissected with the forensic zeal of a Victorian mesmerist examining the ectoplasm of moral panic.

Let it be known, amidst this cacophony of cancel culture and the inquisitorial eye of public opinion, that I remain as innocent as a freshly lactated vegan oat milk latte, steeped in the froth of social consciousness and sprinkled with the cinnamon of misunderstood intention.

So I shall, like Prometheus unshackled from the rock of recrimination, continue my peregrinations through the podcastosphere, disseminating truths and transcendence, whilst being pursued by metaphorical eagles hungry not for my liver, but for likes, retweets, and moral superiority. Namaste and carry on.”"

I hope those women finally get justice.

That is a disgrace.

Roadtrippingroundgreece · 04/04/2025 15:11

I met Russel Brand when I was around 25. He was incredibly creepy, egotistical and gave off text book narcissist vibes (I don’t throw that word around) - I took an instant dislike to him. I was not surprised at all when this came out and I hope his victims get justice.

ThePoshUns · 04/04/2025 14:21

I am only repeating what is on the news. I am not speculating on the case.

Somehow I don't think your comment about victims feeling vindicated is only repeating what was in the news.

It would be very stupid to do something that would affect the right to a fair trial and cause all charges to have to be withdrawn.

Is he definitely living there now? The Met press release says "of Oxfordshire".

Yeah he lives in my friend's old house in South Oxfordshire. I have a mutual friend with him (different friend).

Oldglasses · 04/04/2025 15:21

Good!

Yup! Take 10 men to court and convict 1 = 10% conviction rate. Only take 2 men to court and convict 1 and you suddenly have a 50% conviction rate for the same amount of convictions! We do not have a justice system. We have just a system.

FigTreeInEurope · 04/04/2025 15:25

I do feel sorry for his wife, and his three kids. The trauma of this, after their son's heart surgery must be very difficult. I think he is likely guilty, i think his past has caught up with him. I do believe people can change though, find sobreity, find meaning in family, and in his case apparently, find God. I have no idea if this has been Russel's path, or if he's just a really good actor. You do indeed reep what you sow.

That Christian rebrand makes a lot more sense now.

I've been meaning to watch a podcast RB did with Jonathan Roumie (protagonist of Jesus and former body double for RB) about his conversion to Christianity. I think it was to plug some Christian app JR is involved in with Mark "stay prayed up, bros" Walhberg.

Probably should watch it tonight before JR expunges all RB adjacent content from his socials. Grin
