Just breaking on Sky News that Brand has been charged with a number of rapes and sexual offences. Good.
I hope his victims are feeling vindicated and supported.

✊Congratulations to those brave women and for all those holding him to account.

Yes, and as pp said maybe this will encourage other women to come forward.

He's been charged - it's not a current court case.

It is an active case once he’s been charged and there’s pretty much nothing we can say about it until there’s a verdict. MN will remove any comments that allude to his possible guilt or innocence and they could end up shutting the thread down. Let’s just note that he’s been charged and leave it at that.

Tourist29 · 04/04/2025 14:37

We saw a comedian last year who mentioned RB and pondered ‘who knew?’ Before adding very quickly ‘everyone!’. Makes you wonder why it took so long to out him. Seems things haven’t moved on from all that went on with Jimmy Saville etc.

proceedings become active for contempt of court purposes when someone is charged.
thats certainly the case in Scotland (where I have a little bit of knowledge about this area) and I would imagine would also be the case in England as well
otherwise you could have people making prejudicial comments right up to court proceedings commencing

It is also the case in England.

Doubt they will be – it's why he moved to the States, because he knew this was coming down the line. He'll be like Roman Polanski now, forever exiled.

Best not to comment on live proceedings.

Absolutely- can result in a mistrial etc.

Proceedings become active at the moment of arrest.

So doing a runner to the US and thinking he could pray away his disgustingness didn’t quite work out for him then 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠

But it has – the UK authorities will now have to extradite him to stand trial. He's hardly going to come back willingly.

Hardly think a random anonymous post on Mumsnet copying and pasting an article that's been published will make a blindest bit of difference to a case, he's already been charged 😂

Trovindia · 04/04/2025 14:42

RedToothBrush · 04/04/2025 14:23

Why can't he just say

"Oh bollocks"?!

He didn't write that, it's satire

"“Now listen, dear interlocutors of the infinite internet ether, before the Twitterati commence their collective fulmination, allow me to elucidate this most labyrinthine of misunderstandings with my customary cocktail of linguistic gymnastics and metaphysical musing. I have, it appears, been once again ensnared in the baroque bureaucratic balderdash of institutional intrigue – a veritable Kafkaesque carnival wherein my every utterance is dissected with the forensic zeal of a Victorian mesmerist examining the ectoplasm of moral panic.

Let it be known, amidst this cacophony of cancel culture and the inquisitorial eye of public opinion, that I remain as innocent as a freshly lactated vegan oat milk latte, steeped in the froth of social consciousness and sprinkled with the cinnamon of misunderstood intention.

So I shall, like Prometheus unshackled from the rock of recrimination, continue my peregrinations through the podcastosphere, disseminating truths and transcendence, whilst being pursued by metaphorical eagles hungry not for my liver, but for likes, retweets, and moral superiority. Namaste and carry on.”"

(Stolen from Reddit)

It took a few sentences before I realised this was a parody.

ZebedeeDougalFlorence · 04/04/2025 14:46

That is effing amazing.

Good. Prick has been hiding in plain sight for decades!

Is he definitely living there now? The Met press release says "of Oxfordshire".

Butchyrestingface · 04/04/2025 14:47

I was reading recently he's supposedly converted to Christianity - media didn't seem certain as to denomination.

It can't be Catholicism anyway. If he went into confession, he'd never come back out.

GeorgianaM · 04/04/2025 14:47

I can't stand him but he has been charged NOT yet convicted.

GCAcademic · 04/04/2025 14:48

GeorgianaM · 04/04/2025 14:47

This. And the odds are that he won't be convicted. Less than 3% of rape accusations result in a conviction.

ZebedeeDougalFlorence · 04/04/2025 14:49

I wonder what it's like for the women who stand by these men.

We all know that.

It is still a good thing he has been charged so that the truth can be established.

UrsulasHerbBag · 04/04/2025 14:50

good.

That's the address of his property in the UK but he's been living in the States for a while now. He knew this was coming.

The conviction rate of rape cases that come to trial is about 53.4%, though.
