Seemingly harmless DM article about Princess Beatrice

Starts off harmlessly enough, comparing various mothers and daughters, then WHAM. In with the venom. Wtf is ""Beatrice does not have to carry the sins of the mother on her thighs. She has a wonderful and privileged life ahead of her, but unless she gets her body under control, she'll have a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and pitiful self-esteem. Just ask Fergie. Which does make you rather wonder where her mother is in all this. "" all about?

and ""But all is not lost. I'm sure Weight-Watchers would snap up a royal mother and daughter deal. At least Beatrice has now got the "before" pictures.""

I hate that paper so much!

Alison Pearson has an article in today's Daily Misoginist Mail attempting to justify what to my mind was a snide, bitchy, low attack on an 18 year old girl. Her logic (or lack of it) would be hilarious if the whole thing wasn't so distasteful.

RosaLuxembourg · 21/05/2008 14:29

Interesting hat she was wearing at the weekend, though.

pollypeachum · 21/05/2008 14:38

Much the same, if not the same as, one that the delightful Trinny is wearing in one of her What Not to Wear Books - although it was an example of what to wear, not what not to wear

I was however appalled by the original article and the follow up is just laughable.

LittleBella · 21/05/2008 17:07

Shockingly bitchy. What vile, bitter women Alison Pearson and Amanda Platell must be. To take a young girl and attack her like this, knowing that attacks from other "journalists" will follow, hoping that she will develop as much insecurity and unhappiness about herself as Amanda P has obviously suffered, is such a destructive thing to do. No doubt this is just the start. Princess B will go through this for years, and when she is bulimic at 30 all the journalists will tut and say how self-obsessed she is. Fucking bastards.

How you can call her fat is beyond me Cod. She is a classic pear shape with a flat stomach FGS. But of course, no-one's allowed to be pear shaped anymore, they have to look ill and starved to be considered beautiful.

Tortington · 21/05/2008 17:13

i think that i have body dysmorphia - in that i dont think any of the young girls in the article were fat at all.

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 21/05/2008 17:46

Alison Pearson is a sad sad woman. She probably cannot bear herself fgs. Someone has to pay for it. You have to pity her, really.

Hulababy · 21/05/2008 18:05

Vile paper and rubbish reporting. The article is garbage.

pagwatch · 21/05/2008 18:11

first time I have ever found myself cheering Fergie along. I thought her dismissing Alison Pearsons actions as 'just bad manners' was just beautiful.
Why do women write such total bollocks - so vile and snide?
Don't get it.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 21/05/2008 18:31

Allison Pearson is an irritating smug person and I have never agreed with anything she has said.
However, Fergie did NOT help matters by referring to her daughter yesterday ( heard on radio) as a 'size ten' - WHY did she have to say that????? Her daughter's size is NO biz of anybody's and if B is a size ten then I am, and that is saying something... so making it even WORSE for B by lying so as to suggest shameful to be the size 16 she really is.

pollypeachum · 21/05/2008 18:31

Its also the first time I've found myself cheering Sky tv. The Sky News web site carries this story and the 85 pages of comments posted on the whole reflect exactly how I feel about it - and they put it better than I can.

Compare and contrast the Daily Mail's website where only a paltry 7 comments have been posted. Do I get the feeling that the DM is editing and making sure it only puts up comments that show its journo in a good light?

Agree - vile paper and rubbish reporting.

Kevlarhead · 22/05/2008 00:48

Loved this quote.

"Obviously, if you dish it out, you have to take it. I've learned that as I've got older, and it's absolutely right and fair that I should get my share of criticism where it's due."

[Kevlarhead takes deep breath, heads for the Dark/Daily Mail Side]

Well for starters Allison Pearson... what the fuck is that at the top of your column? Oh, it's you. White face, white background, red lips, what are you, a fucking mime? I'd comment on your face, but it's invisible under the thick sheet of white makeup/polyfilla you're wearing... can you move under that lot? Or change your expression to anything other than the faintly smug "I get paid more money than you proles can imagine for churning out this shit" smile? I'll give the photographer his due though; he managed to reduce your chins down to a manageable two from the half-dozen you seem to possess in more candid shots.

Why is one of your eyes bigger than the other? Seriously, the left eye... there's something not quite right about it. It looks like you've been badly photoshopped together from two pictures. Or maybe your face is just naturally shaped like that. Love the eyebags by the way. Some things you just can't cover up... like the fact you're a whinging streak of shit with no talents beyond vomiting an endless stream of bile into your keyboard.

Kevlarhead · 22/05/2008 00:58

"Do I get the feeling that the DM is editing and making sure it only puts up comments that show its journo in a good light?"

Of course not. That would be censorship, which what the BBC and other communist organisations do.

The DM engages in selective moderation to reflect the views they know their readers possess...

electra · 22/05/2008 01:02

Horrid, horrid, horrid newspaper. I do hate it.

I recently had the misfortune of sitting next to someone who was reading it. It was open at a page which had a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow, looking lovely with a headline that said something about her hemline and her lovely appearance somehow being indicative of the fact that her marriage is in trouble

Misogynist indeed.

pollypeachum · 22/05/2008 09:38

Today the awful DM website has put up a "Have your Say" on the awful AP's awful Beatrice articles.

totalmisfit · 22/05/2008 20:09

she has a great figure, wish i had more of an hour glass like her...

LittleBella · 23/05/2008 19:44

I find it extremely suspicious that they only got 21 comments about this article.

Apart from the fact that they haven't published mine of course.
