Seemingly harmless DM article about Princess Beatrice

Starts off harmlessly enough, comparing various mothers and daughters, then WHAM. In with the venom. Wtf is ""Beatrice does not have to carry the sins of the mother on her thighs. She has a wonderful and privileged life ahead of her, but unless she gets her body under control, she'll have a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and pitiful self-esteem. Just ask Fergie. Which does make you rather wonder where her mother is in all this. "" all about?

and ""But all is not lost. I'm sure Weight-Watchers would snap up a royal mother and daughter deal. At least Beatrice has now got the "before" pictures.""

I hate that paper so much!

I am so angry about that article. Oliveoil I'm terrified that I will pass on my food issues to my DD - I've been bulimic for years but try so hard to never make an issue out of food. I think you're right that your good relationship with food came from your Mum which makes me worry more.

That DM article made me SOOO .

I'm sure it's this kind of trash that is contributing the low self esteem and eating disorders in some young girls.

I have just had a dd and I shall make sure her self esteem is as rock solid as I can make it, to help guard against these vile societal attitudes printed by the DM.

cyteen · 30/04/2008 09:47

I understand that Amanda Platell has streamlined her commissioning process by having WILL SNIPE FOR CASH tattooed on her forehead.

She's a moron whose opinions are of no consequence.

Ah but cyteen, she is a moron whos opinions have got us all worked up.

Uriel · 30/04/2008 09:49

saltire - your picture of Britney - that's fat?!

franke · 30/04/2008 09:56

It's a nasty read isn't it the DM? Here's another seemingly innocuous piece from a few months ago. Charlotte Church "looked quite plump", er, 4 months after giving birth. ffs.

saltire · 30/04/2008 09:59

According to US media - and I'm sure some UK media - when that picture came out they said she was fat!
I think she looks great.

Enid · 30/04/2008 10:02

no wonder we are such a bunch of small minded bigots in this country [fume]

Swedes · 30/04/2008 10:12

I feel sullied for having opened a DM link.

saltire · 30/04/2008 10:12

Here's another article, not about Britney though, about 2 models wearing the same swimsuit. Apparently the top model was though of as FAT by judges on Make Me A Supermodel
I know which one I prefer

ShowOfHands · 30/04/2008 10:45

I worry for my dd. I am saddened by some of these links and comments.

Last night I was walking round Sainsbos with DH talking about that little red/amber/green wheel they have on their products which are designed to educate and inform but worry me. Their pasta for example has a red segment for calories, implying it is somehow 'bad' or to be avoided. Yes it has relatively large amounts of calories per serving but it's slow release, versatile, cheap and by no means dangerous.

How on earth do we educate children about nutrition and exercise when their 'role models' as touted by terrible magazines are living on watercress broth and bottled water? And calling a size 12 fat? My 7yr old niece stands in front of the mirror and says she's fat. She's tiny.

Beelliesebub · 30/04/2008 12:37

What a horrible piece of drivel.... Princess Beatrice looks lovely but Amanda Platell looks like she's been hit in the face with a spade!
Apparently Amanda Platell was William Hague's spin doctor and was accused of "unparalleled treachery"..........and she looks shit in the photo
funny how some people never change.....

donnie · 30/04/2008 13:41

well, what do we expect from the DM?

edam · 30/04/2008 13:45

that would be the same Amanda Platell who moaned from the platform at a Women in Journalism do that none of her female friends gave her a job when Hague lost the election... hardly a shining light of sisterhood. And very far from drop-dead gorgeous herself.

MrsMattie · 30/04/2008 13:46

Oh they are vicious woman haters over at the DM, aren't they? The female 'journalists' seem to be the worst, sadly.

SheikYerbouti · 30/04/2008 13:49

There's nowt harmless about the DM

For a paper then pertains to be aimed a a female audience, it's fucking viscously misogynistic.

I wouldn't even use it for wiping my shitty arse, personally

MamaG · 30/04/2008 13:49

don't mince your words Sheik!

Piffle · 30/04/2008 13:50

have you seen Bea's dad FFS
his genes are far more to blame than Sarahs
Sarah has helped the gene pool massively IMO

Terrific hourglass shape
vile article

SheikYerbouti · 30/04/2008 13:52

I'm glad I have found a thread to be all fishwifey on.

I feel fucking livid today, and I don;t know why.

I'm not even pre-menstrual, but I have this inner-rage coursing through me veins

Really mean horrid article - Princess B looks fab

marina · 30/04/2008 14:00

I worry about how dd will fare, a lot, enid and harpsi. No celeb mags or Disney Channel etc here

The Daily Mail is toxic drivel. It always makes me want to cry when people defend it as just a harmless comic for grown-ups

How people like Amanda Platell and the paps can look themselves in the mirror beats me, What a contemptible way to earn a living.
