Seemingly harmless DM article about Princess Beatrice

Starts off harmlessly enough, comparing various mothers and daughters, then WHAM. In with the venom. Wtf is ""Beatrice does not have to carry the sins of the mother on her thighs. She has a wonderful and privileged life ahead of her, but unless she gets her body under control, she'll have a lifetime of yo-yo dieting and pitiful self-esteem. Just ask Fergie. Which does make you rather wonder where her mother is in all this. "" all about?

and ""But all is not lost. I'm sure Weight-Watchers would snap up a royal mother and daughter deal. At least Beatrice has now got the "before" pictures.""

I hate that paper so much!

Yet in another article she says:

"And as most women know in their heart of hearts, there is no real need to be ashamed of our bodies."

and,

"Let me come clean. I?m now aged 48, and weigh ten and a half stone. Sure, I?d love to be an effortless size 10. But I also know - from bitter experience - how much pure misery that takes.

When I look back at the ups and downs of my life and dress sizes, from a size 8 to 16 and everything in between, my thinnest years have also been my most miserable."

She really does need to make up her mind, silly woman.

I am a mother of 2 girls and that is why I will never go on a diet or moan about my body

they are like little sponges and will take it all in

I have a great relationship with food and I think this is all down to my mum, never on a diet, but not skinny either, wore bikinis etc

never once heared her moan

now Fergie is a Weightwatchers figure is she not? is this a good role model do you think?

harpsichordcarrier · 30/04/2008 09:38

yes as a mother of two daughters these articles make me incan-fecking-descent with rage
there is a whole industry of witless stupid women journalists churning out this stuff
and the DM has this massive loyal female readership
it makes me want to weep

Oliveoil · 30/04/2008 09:38

heard

have to go now and do some work and I am quite cross, I may do some debt chasing and work it all out!

Enid · 30/04/2008 09:39

I diet but never mention it

no low fat food here

and NO absoluytely NO celeb mags

saltire · 30/04/2008 09:41

My cousin ahs a 9 year old girl who now won't eat pasta, rice, bread or breakfast cereal, becasue she was told, or read that those foods can make you fat, and she saw this picture and comments that Britney was fat, and now she won't eat them.
I know Briteny has her problems but she's anything but fat in that picture!

TheMadHouse · 30/04/2008 09:42

I am doing my best to bring my boys up to be gentlemen, they have a really good role model in their father. He is not concious of my body at all, ot if he is he doesnt mention it. He tells me I look wonderful, but he also is honost enough to say when something is not flattering.

I think it is a fine line we walk on. I want my boys to grow up to respect woman and we can only do this if other women start respecting other women and this means journolists too

saltire · 30/04/2008 09:43

I try to diet, and in my defence I do try to exercise, but with my health I find it hard.
Anyway, DS1 said yesterday "we have been doing healthy eating at school, and fats are bad for you"
I was just about to say "well yes they are if you eat a lot of them", and he said "so does that include butter, milk, yoghurts? Maybe we shouldn't eat those"

Enid · 30/04/2008 09:43

"I am doing my best to bring my boys up to be gentlemen"

swoon

how lovely
