Case in point above, @EasternStandard. Just report anything that concerns you to us at MNHQ via the Report button, and we can take it from there. No need for you to worry about how other posters are behaving. Unfortunately we have now had to remove your post as well. Peace and love, still.

No probs glad the pp is deleted

Agree. I also want to add Muslim elders seem to be the only people interested in olive branches, discussion and building on common ground. They’ve put Keir to absolute shame.

My concern is the two tier policing issue which, if it was in question yesterday, is now completely blatant. This has been a gift for the EDL thugs who now have a gold plated trump card, and a ‘justification’ for their bashing of the police (literally).

User135644 · 06/08/2024 11:30

What happened in Birmingham was a complete failure in policing. Could have been easily stopped but they were nowhere.

The police have to now act and punish anyone causing criminal damage or assault.

Poverty is definitely a part of this. I think a lot of normal people- not just the far right- have realised that despite being on treadmills like hamsters - working honestly day to day- they are getting nowhere. You can’t buy a house, unaffordable rents, the cost of living crisis, years long NHS waiting lists. The government is not addressing these issues as part of the cause of the riots. Starmer I think has inflamed things by condemning all as far right thugs and not allowing any space for legitimate questions and concerns re immigration policy. Violence is not the answer and is always wrong however I think people feel like there is no alternative. Writing a letter to your MP goes nowhere. Poverty is really grim and really not pretty. The government needs to address why this is happening.

The worst disorder is happening in the most run down places of the country. Places already struggling and then battered by austerity.

Why are you so concerned about two tier policing only now and given the line Keir pursued with the 2011 rioters surely he's the perfect candidate to ensure all rioters, regardless of race, religion or motive, face justice?

I said this on the other deleted thread. My heart sank when I heard Keir Starmer start talking about protecting mosques and Muslims even though I understood why.

Doesn't he understand that specific sentence will be the basis of 1000 far-right propaganda videos? That it plays into the 'two tier Keir' narrative? He can't afford to be this naive.

JamSandle · 06/08/2024 11:56

The veneer of civilisation has always been paper thin.

The closest evolved relative of the human being is the chimp - and they're fucking vile.

Me too.

Have any Mosques been attacked? I know libraries/shops/hotels/police stations have, but I’m yet to hear of a damaged Mosque? (This isn’t facetious btw it’s just impossible to keep on top of all news, if anyone has info I would be grateful)

Yes, in Sunderland. Attacked, not sure about physical damage but caused fear to the people inside which is just as bad.

Edited

And Southport I think - I saw a video yesterday of a builder who had volunteered to come down and repair the wall outside.

There are reports of mosques being "targeted" - apparently by groups of thugs congregating outside - but thankfully I can't see anything to say they've actually been attacked

Also agree it's been great (though not surprising) to see elders working hard to build bridges, though just the same as with every other community I do hope this will include sharing names with the police if they know identities

The "two tier policing" issue is not "completely blatant". Read Jess Phillips response upthread to what was actually happening last night and let the police do their jobs rather than getting riled up by selective video clips on twitter.

Yes they have been and also headstones desecrated. Before you even get into the racially inflammatory language being used by many Marchers over a prolonged period of time

Stop minimising what's happening, please. It comes across as DARVO.

Muslim gravestones desecrated with white paint as police investigate hate crime

The footage was taken in the Muslim section of Burnley Cemetery today with both Burnley's council leader and police issuing a joint statement over the crime.

Case in point.

Twitter is full of selective videos and misinformation. The fucking owner of twitter is getting overexcited about civil war in the UK. It is easy to find videos made to fuel your own confirmation bias.

Maybe you should look a bit closer to home before you start calling other people "naive".

gizatwirl · 06/08/2024 12:24

Isthatascratchonmygrandmother · 05/08/2024 23:22

Oh the police have attended. One police van and no riot gear. They said and I quote 'it was a small scuffle, and probably looked like something it wasnt' directly into the camera of a guy asking why there's been no police presence.

My God,that is truly shocking.

My God,that is truly shocking.

Or true, and most of the public have no idea what it's like policing the cities of the UK on weekend nights when young men are out, lagered up and behaving like twats.

Hmm. I know who I trust to have an informed view on this.

This thread is shocking.
