Apparently there is an article in the magazine about Tony Parsons' sex life.

It's put me off my dinner.
I can't even bring myself to open it.

Worse even thah Jay rayner's staggeringly self indulgnet witterings about 'my life in food' last week.

God,where did it all go so wrong?

you heartless houndlette.

broken boy (lost sis, mum and best friend in last couple of years) misses female company, resorting to talking a lot over the counter at people. she tells him he is going to be attractive because he can talk about his emotions (tick), likes women (tick) and is willing to say so (tick). she advises against going for a relationship, points out that chatting a woman up over a counter is prob not a good idea and suggests counselling. she also suggests actively pursuing his own interests implying that women will follow.

so she's boosted his ego (which needs it), given him some confidence and expressed she likes who he is, steered him away from humiliation and towards professional help.

none of which she does in a patronising way.

i loved reading it.

don't like her usually but she warmed my cockles today.

I have learned something today from the nObserver, Lidl have withdrawn frozen hare, due to animals rights protests...

and dh is reading the gardening booklet that came free.

Monkeybird · 06/04/2008 20:31

Nah, you're all wrong. There's something very sexy about an intelligent working class bloke made good. Even if he does look slightly ratty. But, hey, that's never held David Tennant back.

moondog · 06/04/2008 20:33

Frozen hare stuff hilarious.

Seriously Soph,I don't get it.Taht is staggeringly obvious stuff.

moondog · 06/04/2008 20:34

Gardening stuff has been kept.
Every now again there is a flash of old school savvy. The speeches and poetry was fab and there was a brill section on kids' cookery we use a lot. Also a wonderfu lcrafts one.

P 17 Shock, horror - grandmothers don't always think their daughters are doing a good job of motherhood and think it was better back in their day. The daughters tend to ignore their mothers.

crackinggoodegg · 06/04/2008 20:56

moondog, was it Jay Rayner's pompous ski trip story you wrote in about? Good on you if you did - I've never read such a twattish piece of food writing in my life. I can't believe he's written about a book about his upbringing in food terms - original and interesting when Nigel did it but who the hell wants to read about some overweight johnny no mates kid who goes to restaurants alone to stuff his face.

policywonk · 06/04/2008 20:56

I gave up on the Knobbie about nine months ago and haven't missed it at all. Free yourselves!

southeastastra · 06/04/2008 20:57

i was quite impressed to see those mexican emos .

armando icciawhatever's column really made me laugh today

moondog · 06/04/2008 21:04

Cracking, good God,are you having me on? His ski trip??? I would have had to take a rice flail to nearest male's gonads had i seen that.

moondog, it's from his memoirs (described as "brilliant new book" good god) last week where he went off and left his school skiing trip in Switzerland to dine alone on snails as he was obviously gastronomically superior to his school mates.

lifeandhealth.guardian.co.uk/food/story/0,,2268150,00.html

Back to the op, any mention of TP having sex is just wrong.

Tinker · 06/04/2008 22:09

I was curious about the Lidl hare as well. Want to try it now, now it's too late.

moondog · 06/04/2008 22:19

Soory, yes, it was the bloody ski trip which formed ratinale for future role as gourmet professional porker. I had blocked it out,it was so traumatic.

has the nobserver got worse, then? didn't think it possible. stopped buying it last year.
i do like flaky flett, though, she seems like a nice lass. does anyone know what the point of Lucy Mangan's column is in the guardian? i nibble at it but i've never managed to eat a whole one.

Aitch · 06/04/2008 22:21

does Jay talk about his mum all the time, though? must've been formative having her talk about willies on the telly.

DrippingLizzie · 06/04/2008 22:21

For work purposes I've had to buy all the broadsheets for the past fortnight and was mightily surprised that my fave of them all was the Saturday Telegraph. Fab Weekend section and sport is unrivalled. Never thought I'd ever find myself engrossed in the DT but there you go.

They also had a great offer for "waist reducing, stay-dry briefs" for £9.99

moondog · 06/04/2008 22:21

I always suck my teeth in bitchy fashion at her terible shoes.

I'm so over arch musings on.....fuck all really. Guardian and Nob excel in this field.

YES. and those awful jeans. did you see her in NYC recently? rather unbelievably the column photo appears in retrospect to have been stretched.

and i'd like to just say... Zoe Williams.

moondog · 06/04/2008 22:27

I see those sandals on overweight matrons from Staffordshire, stretching their pop socked limbs out on llandudno promenade on mystery weekends away.
