I'm just going to have a good bitch once again about the Nobserver

Apparently there is an article in the magazine about Tony Parsons' sex life.

It's put me off my dinner.
I can't even bring myself to open it.

Worse even thah Jay rayner's staggeringly self indulgnet witterings about 'my life in food' last week.

God,where did it all go so wrong?

Oh FFS what is it with their obsession with that twat?! They love him. I gave up buying the Obs a few weeks ago after throwing Obs Woman down in disgust and ranting at DH about refusing to pay good money for such offensive shite ever again. I secretly miss it sometimes , but things like this make me feel better about my decision...

MarkStretch · 06/04/2008 19:25

I love the observer but their 'green' magazine issue made me laugh- it was stuffed full of car adverts!

Why did you go off woman magazine mrsmattie?

artichokes · 06/04/2008 19:25

it is a brief 90 second interview with Parsons in which he refers to enjoying sex and thinking it is important for a good marriage, that is it. don't judge a book by its cover...

its still better than all its rivals IMO. Except on the weeks where it does the Womens' mag, that I bin on sight (therefore ignoring my own advice about judging and covers and stuff).

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 06/04/2008 19:25

If it's any consolation that headline is just a subby getting his rocks off - there's only one para about sex. the rest is just non-sex related sycophancy.

don't get me started on nigel slater's column this week though.

janeite · 06/04/2008 19:25

It's not quite about his sex life, although his sex life is mentioned. It's just one of those "tell us a few boring things about what a tosser you are" kind of interviews. Now the one who gets me is Kathryn Flett; I can't even work out what she's going on about half the time and the other half of the time I just want to slap her.

moondog · 06/04/2008 19:26

Travel section is the only part still holding its own.
I (accidentally) heard TP on the radio last week.
OMFG
He sounded like the sort of ratty little man one would avoid in a grotty pub.
My hatred has increased fivefold.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 06/04/2008 19:26

oh god yes their Woman shite. It turns me a charming shade of fury every time.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 19:26

was really moved by the mariella advice column which has moved to the back today.

moondog · 06/04/2008 19:27

Oh KF.

Our new columnist! they bray

New? New??

She's been boring the tits of us for years.

Ah, Nigel can do no wrong in my books.

None whatsoever.

Prob. only reason i still buy it tbh.

How has he got on yer tits then PhD?

Actually, I quite like Kathryn Flett, but I thought the photo of her today was a joke at first. She looks like a minor member of the royal family.

artichokes · 06/04/2008 19:29

God, I just realised my post may have read like I was saying don't judge TP my his cover. No, no, no. Just the magazine and it's misleading subs.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 19:29

read the mariella bit (back page of mag). defy you not to be moved.

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 19:29

Firstly, I object to the Obs running 4 magazines entitled 'Sport', 'Music', 'Food' and 'Woman' (are women just one of the four main male interests, then? I mean, wtf is that all about? I wouldn't mind quite as much if Obs Woman ever had any intelligent content, but it's all Cosmo-style make-up tips and fawning over Kate Moss. It's insulting.

Agree that Obs is better than all rivals, but think I can do without Sunday papers these days (maybe I'll get them as a novelty occasionally...). I get my news from the web and if I want to read about Posh Spice's new handbag I'll stump up for OK Magazine (yeh, right)...

NotQuiteCockney · 06/04/2008 19:30

The only bit that really bugs me is that Euan bloke at the end. I keep hoping to open the paper to find him replaced, with a small note: 'Euan Ferguson disappeared up his own pompous self-important bottom. Finally. Hurrah!'.

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 19:30

p.s. Nigel Slater is such a tosser and Mariella's column is just ourtrageously, obviously fabricated

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 19:31

he's been replaced! he is now mariella!!!

[am i shouting through a pane of glass here ]

moondog · 06/04/2008 19:31

Oh God,that Euan bloke is repellant. Fucking repellant.

Off to read Nigel and Mariella now.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 19:32

Oh yes, and prattish Euan. And Jess Cartner-Blah-de-Blah. And that annoying 'Green' page for people who drive 4 x 4s and feel guilty.

I know I'm a grumpy old cow. I don't know when it started to annoy me so badly...

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 19:32

ooo goody.

artichokes · 06/04/2008 19:33

The green page author (Lucy Siegle?) one interviewed me for that column! It was about my use of an eco-friendly coffin when my mum died. She was very nice but completley misquoted me in the column. It made my mum sound twee and I was furious.

janeite · 06/04/2008 19:34

Yes the Mariella column was lovely. I haven't read Nigel Slater yet but he was doing soda bread; how can that annoy you? - soda bread is the food of the gods!

Heathcliffscathy · 06/04/2008 19:35

i really think she'll have made a difference to his self esteem. i hope so anyway.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/04/2008 19:36

Wait, has Euan been replaced?

I was so glad when the sodding Barefoot cunting Doctor was replaced, he was so full of fucking shite ... aarrgh. I don't always notice what page I'm on, so I would start reading, and go WTF?!?!?! And then go ... oh, yes, it's the sodding Barefoot cunting Doctor, right ...
