140? well that is more than I had thought however it is still conidered a smallish number, these cases are often/usually dealing with thousands and upwards.

GRS, you may be right that it is viewing, I know that it is not actually creating and is to do with effectivly dreating a copy which is why I wondered why he had not been charged with it - and why I asked Cod what she meant.

DJCod · 03/04/2008 20:04

oh ok

DJCod · 03/04/2008 20:08

ah yes its if they are viewed but not stored.
so say you see some on a website thats not as bad as saving them on to oyur hard dirve or a meamroy stick

yorkishbirdy · 03/04/2008 20:08

Thanks Cod but, bleurgh again, I wish I didn't know anything at all about it actually, I have no idea why I am trying to find out more.

DJCod · 03/04/2008 20:08

its like ithcing a scab i think

squack · 03/04/2008 20:09

Wasn't there something in the early days of her disappearance that Shannon's friend had stated to the police that Shannon had said she was going to run away.

This may be a factor in non-reunion.

Shannon may well have requested not to be returned to the family home.

yorkishbirdy · 03/04/2008 20:09

so psuedo created is viewed and created is downloaded...?

squack · 03/04/2008 20:10

cod I'm curious what made you be a mag?

moondog · 03/04/2008 20:11

I've just talked to my mate who write for Torygraph. He was up there a few weeks ago and said police told all journos then about the dodgy pics.

squack · 03/04/2008 20:12

will the publicity surrounding this mean he will likely be refused bail for his own safety?

yorkishbirdy · 03/04/2008 20:12

Scab analogy is probably right

Squack, that is what I wondered, which is awful, poor thing.

DJCod · 03/04/2008 20:13

i cant remember
its really interesting

MetallicCerisePan · 03/04/2008 20:13

a psuedo image is one that is digitally messed with, using a separate software programme. Creating is downloading and storing.

yorkishbirdy · 03/04/2008 20:14

about shannon not wanting to go home that is

yorkishbirdy · 03/04/2008 20:15

right I now know enough for now, I think I will swear off these topics again for a bit (hah fat chance )

squack · 03/04/2008 20:16

yes I have met someone once who was a mag and she loved it too.

how do you become one? or are you chosen?

onebatmother · 03/04/2008 20:20

v sorry - no time to read whole thread but:

A paedophile is a paedophile by the time their adult sexuality is developed, I would have thought. Youth is no barrier.

I had also thought that anything that is not 'the norm' in these cases is a cue for the police: big age difference between stepfather and mother is not the norm, and might therefore indicate that the stepfather's involvement in the relationship might not be straightforward.

Jacanne · 03/04/2008 20:35

There's an article in my local paper today including an interview with someone prosecuted for downloading child pornography. He says " I have never had a sexual interest in children.....the word paedo makes me feel sick. You don't wake up one day and decide to start looking at pictures of children on the net. It creeps up on you slowly and your barriers lower gradually. At the time I was thinking just once more and I kept on going and going over a nine month period. Now I know a lot of things are trigger points for me such as when I am sad or depressed.....I realise part of my offending was depression".

He says he's sorry, that he should be punished, realises that it was wrong etc. but it still feels to me like he's not accepting that he has a problem and that he finds children sexually attractive - why else would you do it? He goes on to say "it's like being ill and not knowing what is causing it."

I felt quite angry when reading this mainly because he seems to be accepting responsibility but denying it at the same time.

DJCod · 03/04/2008 20:41

you aplly
theres a website

DJCod · 03/04/2008 20:42

www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJusticeAndTheLaw/Becomingamagistrate/DG_071395 do apply they need younguns
partic in big cities

onebatmother · 03/04/2008 20:46

what if, say, just for argument's sake, say, you have an insalubrious past, cod, but one that doesn't actually involve law-breaking. The usual youthful indiscretions, I mean.
Just out of interest

Monkeytrousers · 03/04/2008 20:51

Cod, did I read on another thread that you do this stuff for free??

I couldn't do it. I'm still scarred by the news images of South Africa in the 80s and the Ethiopian famine - porngraphy of a very different sort but to much for me.

Monkeytrousers · 03/04/2008 20:52

oh, hullo Batty

LyraSilvertongue · 03/04/2008 21:06

hmm, I was starting to get interested in applying to become a magistrate until I read the bit about having to view pictures. There's no way I could do that, it would haunt me for months.
Oh well.

onebatmother · 03/04/2008 21:43

hullo MT (v much admire hullo)

My father is a lawyer and I found his forensic science book when I was 11 or so. Very, very, vivid memories.
