So, IF (and I do mean IF) there were inappropriate images of some of Karen Matthews other children on his PC (those who are no longer living with them), then what ON EARTH were the others still there for? The mother may be able to keep the children at home if she refuses contact with the accused.
The children will probably already be under Child Protection after Shannon's disappearance but unless SS have a real need to remove them from their mother they won't.

I cannot understand why she has not been granted contact with her daughter, even supervised. But then I'm not party to the case info.

You only have to visit a site once and click 'save' though don't you wannabe? I dunno though, but it seems unlikey these pics wil have been copyrighted. It does say 'possessing' and thaty implies they have been saved onto the harddrive.

And many of these are not actually on 'sites' as such but are passed around by offenders personally.

Bundle, as I said earlier, there are ways of "explaining" things like a low level of high end pics amongst a high level of low end pics IYSWIM. The level involved is not the only factor taken into account by a long long way.

Assuming there were just 10 pics of levels 1 to 4 (with most being 1 rather than 4) then the mother probably wouldn't have to even refuse contact, just convince them that she will keep the children safe.

I agree that it seems really odd that the mother is not allowed contact at all. I cannot understand how they can imply (by their actions) that the mother should be kept away from one child and yet think she is fine to care for the other children. It is very very strange IMO - unless Shannon has asked to be kept away from the family for some reason?

This is a fact ? although more complicated. But it is a statistical observation, it does not mean that all step-parents will neglect or harm their step-kids, just that it happens to be a pretty big indicator that it is more likely to happen ? not that it is inevitable. No one has any business taking it personally.

Do you get any debriefing? Counselling? I know they have to keep a close eye on the people within the 'child porn' (forgive me) units so they don't become desensitised to the images..and worse..and with the mainstream porn squad of course, to stop them becoming addicted.

Ugh, I feel for you cod, having to see these things, DP is in the process of joining the police force and I already dread to think what he will come across in his time serving.

is it not that Shanon was not allowed contact with mum whilst he was around? Police will ahve found this stuff very early on, before Shanon was found, and to allow contact would/could have messed up evidence for either trail?
Now that he is remanded into custody, and KAren has booted him, it seems, Shanon will be allowed much more family contact, though understandably supervised.

By all that I mean that, as cod knows, there is presumption of bail under the Bail Act, and it can be refused on certain grounds, one being poss. interference with witnesses - and Shanon may well end up being a witness in some way of his trial.

Cod, how is creating different? I ask because that is exactly how it was explained to me by the police - by activly downloading an image (as opposed to just [bleurgh emoticon] viewing it then you are guilty of theoretical creation of the image. (I think it is to do with re-creating the image in a new location)

Actually I was told (maybe on Newsnight?) that the act of viewing meant that you had 'created an image' on your drive. It struck me as a stupid definition since to most people that implies models, cameras and darkrooms.
